Getting a little queasy about how people (twitter basically) are using this to twist election issues. The NHS is brilliant 365 days a year, not just when responding to the twice a decade terrorist attacks that kill and injure dozens. Using police numbers to raise fear levels is a traditional Tory tactic but thanks to the May cuts and the Corbyn re-balancing manifesto promise the opportunists are going as far as to pin the blame for the attack on May. If you're playing that game then Chilcott was very clear that the Labour Prime minister was warned in 2003 that he was certain to see an increase in domestic terror attacks rather than a reducing the chances. Even as a fully signed up, Corbyn avatar having, labour voter the glee with which people are re-tweeting that 2015 video of May being told what would happen strikes me as something that might alienate the people that had any tory sympathies in the first place.

That wasn't about surveillance, it was a response to internment camps being advocated. They're still not equivalent obviously, and I had no intention of suggesting any equivalence, but it's all about proportional response. I don't believe a proportionate response is to dispense with the just rule of law we have lived by for so long and lock up a percentage of the population without charge because of the fear they might do something. Nor do I believe it's proportionate to put millions on watch lists that restrictthem from flying or ensure that when they do they face as much difficulty as possible and are detained as long as possible. The numbers for that sort of thing should be closer to what Parky mentioned earlier. Those under active suspicion. I don't agree with using attacks as an excuse to gather all the communications of everyone on the planet either. I think security services should concentrate on suspects and require a warrant to collect information on those individuals.

There's a balance to be struck between concentrating surveillance for optimum use of resource as opposed to casting the net so wide as to be unmanageable and useless. I'm against blanket surveillance.

But that's not what you proposed.

I know you're a trump supporter, but didn't think you'd back his muslim ban.

As of June 2016, the Terrorist Watch List is estimated to contain over 2,484,442 records, consisting of 1,877,133 individual identities. The haystack's ever expanding.

Worse than that... Gianforte is a believer in Young Earth creationism, the belief that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. He donated $1.5 million to the Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum in Glendive, Montana, a creationist museum which teaches visitors that evolution is false, the Earth is about 6,000-6,400 years old, that dinosaurs were on the Ark and that they likely died out 4,300 years ago during the flood described in the Book of Genesis.

Ooh, it's me birthday in a few weeks as well. Cheers

Perhaps Burnham didn't want to make any assumptions before police confirmed motive. All well and good tweeting assumptions but people in positions of power should be held to a responsibility to speak with accuracy, not to second guess ongoing investigations. In the (very small) chance it turned out to be a jealous dooly who had a bird who dumped him and went to the concert with another lad.... Burnham would look a bit daft rushing to assume motivation and labelling it as such.

James Woods has been tweeting a list of attacks and asking what they all have in common too. Like a mackem looking at the list of managers they've had fail and concluding they should ban white males from the role.

He's a wanker. "Celebrating my birthday in Manchester as news of the bomb broke. The anger is monumental" Didn't the terrorist know it was his birthday ffs!

Can something that's happened frequently be surprising?

Her whole thread is worth a read.

Fucking internment camps. Is she looking to outdo that apprentice cunt? 99.9% of us will thankfully NEVER be a victim of terrorism. Yet we rush to ensure that 100% ARE victims of the loss of liberty, that the terrorism achieves it's very goal. Deciding/debating policy 17 hours after the biggest terror attack in over a decade isn't sensible.

Not sure the state should be encouraged to "disappear" individuals.

Was a great pod. Curtis was most unimpressed by what songs made Buxton cry

Unfortunately I think it probably had a lot to do with who was performing as much as the audience she cultivates.

Doors are opened all around at the end of a performance to help people get out rapidly. Easy to wander in unchecked at that point.. or just stand by a busy exit and detonate.

Labour vote share in Wales was 37% in 2015. Yesterday Yougov put them at 44%. Tory 34% (from 27%)
