RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE FOR CHRISTMAS NO.1

I'm under no illusions that it's about the art. It's about giving the majority exactly what they want. Someone corrected me on that before when i thought betty Boo had been a one hit wonder. I don't think the X-factor stops anyone else doing the same thing these days though. MIA and Speech Debelle spring to mind. -
I also wasn't really happy with any of the human characters or their relationships. In Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2 and True Lies Cameron showed a real sense of humour around bonding his characters together. In this film there are no laughs and no camaraderie whatsoever amongst the crew. The sergeant of the marines is a funny bloke...but he's supposed to be the bad guy we don't like.

I enjoyed it. The 3D was excellent. I've only seen UP previously so I may not be a good judge, but the depth of what was on screen had me wondering if this is what it was like to see Citizen Kane when it was new. There's very little that points out of the screen. Some stuff floats in front but unlike in UP, the floaty things are never what you're supposed to be looking at. They're always out of focus which forces you to keep the characters on screen at the centre of attention, so it's not showy. Otherwise it's all about the screen being your eye and everything on it being progressively further in the distance...exactly as it should be. The story is basically Return of the Jedi, but the allegory has moved from Vietnam to Iraq. Cameron seems to be going around saying it's about the environment. That's bollocks to try and avoid his fellow countrymen boycotting such a blatantly anti-American film (and anti British). I was most worried about the aliens going in, as I thought they looked shit in the trailer. I thought 12 years of perfecting 3D might have left the CGI back in the 90's. But that's not the case at all. They shit on the Ewoks. At no point are they unbelievable as living creatures. Negatives? As has become the norm in everything (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Star Trek all spring to mind) there's far too many big monsters chasing people for 10 minutes at a time. We even get the oldest trick in the book of a bigger monster attacking the monster currently attacking the hero. Also, there's about half an hour before the final battle where it drags and I was thinking "get on with it". Not particularly shameful for a film almost 3 hours long. The first chase sequence is edited a bit too quickly for 3d and becomes a blur, but I didn't think any of the other action sequences suffered from that. I don't know if it was my contact lenses or the glasses but my eyes were burning by the end. Nowt that would stop me recommending it though.

Mine was "Snooker Loopy". And like fuck are "kids" the primary market for any X Factor winner's single. I did say housewives and gays too I can't see how anything but a majority audience of under 18's would have kept Jedward, Lloyd or Eoghan Quigg in that long. -
It's a classic. I think I bought Dear Jessie by Madonna the same day.

The music snobbery on here is grotesque. Why would 12 year old girls, housewives and gays want to listen to Tool or RATM? Can you imagine if i started a facebook group to ensure that all of the Kerrang awards went to boybands and novelty acts? It'd be the act of a pathetic loser who should spend more time appreciating his own music collection than denegrating others. But no, let's ridicule the popular taste, so kids feel like twats for liking something, lose any interest they might have had and don't develop their taste as they mature, but are instead put off for life from the pursuit of happiness through music. Anyone who doesn't pop out of the vagina understanding why Television are better than Busted must be a fucktard that doesn't deserve a musical youth. Betty Boo doing the doo was the first record I bought. -
but ebert liked Indiana Jones 4... Have you read any Pauline Kael? Her thoughts on 'trash' might be of interest to you. http://www.paulrossen.com/paulinekael/tras...dthemovies.html

It's a hit! A fully believable, flesh-and-blood (albeit not human flesh and blood) romance is the beating heart of "Avatar." Cameron has never made a movie just to show off visual pyrotechnics: Every bit of technology in "Avatar" serves the greater purpose of a deeply felt love story. -Hollywood Reporter It’s been twelve years since "Titanic," but the King of the World has returned with a flawed but fantastic tour de force that, taken on its merits as a film, especially in two dimensions, warrants four stars. However, if you can wrap a pair of 3D glasses round your peepers, this becomes a transcendent, full-on five-star experience that's the closest we'll ever come to setting foot on a strange new world. Just don’t leave it so long next time, eh, Jim? -Empire Once again, [Cameron] has silenced the doubters by simply delivering an extraordinary film. There is still at least one man in Hollywood who knows how to spend $250 million, or was it $300 million, wisely. -Roger Ebert Avatar is all-enveloping and transporting, with Cameron & Co.'s years of R&D paying off with a film that, as his work has done before, raises the technical bar and throws down a challenge for the many other filmmakers toiling in the sci-fi/fantasy realm. -Variety Embrace the movie -- surely the most vivid and persuasive creation of a fantasy world ever seen in the history of moving pictures -- as a total sensory, sensuous, sensual experience. -Time Got my tickets booked for tomorrow night. Thoughts to follow

Can you name the top 200 Premier League goal scorers?

To do it in 20 minutes you'd need to get one correct answer every 6 seconds. It took me 6 minutes just to work out the spelling for 'Hasselbaink'. -

Why are you helping to double the record sales of the company he works for then? You think a chart war where the public battle to buy up as many records as possible and both acts on the same label benefit from inflated sales is going to make Simon Cowell think again before starting another series....and in all liklihood generating a similar battle? fuckin hell, thats some intellectuallising going on there happy. if you dont want to buy it thats your choice. if you want to buy it, again, thats your choice. if you want to do neither etc., etc.. who cares if sony get the money. not me. it probably has been engineered that way but arent most things in life? as far as i can see this christmas no.1 is a 2 horse race. i'm choosing the song i like best. get over it!! The fuckin cheeky twat Cowell was on the radio earlier saying that those who set the facebook RATM group up were "cynical" Do you think he's familiar with the concept of irony? I've always found him to be a very funny, self-aware, intelligent man so yes, I think it's safe to say he was fully aware of the irony in his comments....as well as the further publicity it would generate for the facebook campaign. Rest assured he wholeheartedly endorses the effort. Axeman, I just thought that since you left actually liking the song till last, your most important reason for downloading was to strike a blow against Cowell and the X-factor. I thought you were making a stand against 'the industry' but now your saying it's par for the course and i should get over it...but I'm not the one joining a campaign to put an end to engineered chart success. Personally I'm in a win win situation because either way there's going to half a million people getting all pissy about what's number one in the charts and i get to take the piss out of them. -
Still, £4.98 for the first series is a bargain.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000HOJ...g=hotukdeals-21

It'll be a great moment like. This heavily promoted publicity stunt has shown what the public really thinks of heavily promoted publicity stunts. -
