In 2006 the average player salary in the top flight was £13,000. In June 2009 Premier league salaries went over £1 billion. Without more details and working on 20 squads of 22 players, that would average out at £43,706 per week*. Obviously a lot of squads are a lot bigger than that and the top four or five squads will use up the majority of that salary. By a strange coincidence it also matches the current wage bill exactly....if you believe what you hear. Suggests to me we won't be signing anyone this window unless one or more of the higher earners are sold. Geremi and Butt are out of contract at the end of the season so that'll free up some cash. But I wouldn't expect to replace Ameobi with £30K a week next season either.
