Source? Various accadacca threads for starters No. acca said it would be a walk in the park. People were wary of being so cocky. Which is fair enough given our undeserved reputation as delsional fans. Quote the several people that said we'd get relegated though. As I said, I've no problem admitting I thought we would struggle, and the reasons why. What a shame that so many people can't bring themselves to admit they were wrong about the Halls and Shepherd, as I told them. Who was wrong about the Halls and Shepherd's? What made their long term prospects better than Portsmouth's (who also came up from the second division and got into Europe for good times off the back of big spending)? Was Portsmouth's problem only that they didn't spend MORE when they started to decline. You're spot on that it was some of the best times we'll not see for a long time, you've just never explained what made it sustainable once shepherd had the club losing £30m a season, in debt for over £70m and finishing in the bottom half regularly.

Your whole statment is massively flawed. The old regime didn't live within their means. As a fan i was over the moon with Owen's arrival, but adding 10m debt a year meant it was a risk we simply couldn't afford to take. As custodians of the club there job was to rationalise the risk/reward, but they run it like fans, getting carried away with the hype - and rather than minimising the risk by loading his contract with clauses if we didn't make Europe they bent over and took one from his agent. People who critise the old regime don't come to the match thinking its monolpoly viewing players like financial assest. They were just sick of players like Kieron 'f**kin' Dyer picking up £80k a week.... I'd love to hear you justification for Dyer being on £80k a week, as we gave him that knowing he was a sick note! Also, I think our views of Ashley's business model is also incorrect. I dont see his aim to make us into profitable entity, just a self sufficent one. He brought in more players in January than any other club. Ok, Best may not live up to his name, but he's a player that fits our needs perfectly and you have to be a realist, there were no better players availible. Maybe Victor Moses, but his agent made my blood boil, the goon was constantly on Sky Sports bigging him up spouting rubbish about Real Madrid being interested link. Under the old regime we would have taken one from his agent to get him. Sure Ashleys made mistakes, but I truely belive he is learning. Unlike some stick in the muds on here I see myself as a quite reasonable fan. Frankly there is nothing in what you say that is unreasonable and a lot of truth in it. The problem is, as usual some what it to be black and white when there is shit loads of grey. They'll come round (except Leazes) eventually, just like the majority of fans already have and just like the doom mongers from earlier in the season already have. People have slowly woken up to the fact that the Halls and Shepherd were much better than they thought at the time, despite constantly disagreeing with me when I tried to tell them. I don't expect some of the Ashley supporters to admit that he has dragged the club massively downwards, even when it becomes even more obvious, say by the middle of next season when our bargain buys are struggling to stay up and we do nothing in January to help the situation other than bringing a few bargains and loans. You're right, I won't come round because he won't succeed. However, if he EVER does qualify for the Champions League, then I WILL admit that I was wrong, and give due credit for it, unlike some. i hardly think that's the case. just because ashley's reign so far has been worse than shepherd's doesn't change the fact that shepherd was incompetent. is that so ? We will see how long it takes for someone else to put the club into the Champs League. To be fair, Shepherd hadn't managed that himself in 5 years.

Quiet Friday afternoon and that, I wondered what Barton has cost us in context (actually not in context at all, using an arbitrary transfer fee, that doesn't account for their salary or what we recouped in outbound transfer fees, or whether they'll play more games. Either way though).... Luque - £9.5m, 21 appearances (£452,380.95 per game) Marcelino - £6.7m, 17 appearances (£374,117.65 per game) Cort - £7m, 22 appearances (£318,181.82 per game) Owen - £16m, 71 appearances (£225,352.11 per game) Viana - £8.5m, 39 appearances (£217,948.72 per game) Bassedas - £4.1m, 24 appearances (£170,833 per game) Boumsong £8m, 47 appearances (£170,212.77 per game) Coloccini - £10.3m, 62 appearances (£166,129.03 per game) Maric - £3.6m, 23 appearances (£156,521.74 per game) Barton - £5.8m, 38 appearances (£152,631.57 per game) Goma - £4.7m, 33 appearances (£142,424.24 per game) Smith - £6m, 67 appearances (£89,552.24 per game)

I think you've confused Hodgson with Smithers off the Simpsons.

Hasn't Duff been gash all season? I suppose playing a continental team that give you time on the ball...especially one down to 9 men... flattered hiim edit: Just read the report and realised it was 10 men until stoppage time.

Given the Haals are only worth £75m total and looking at the debt the club has, I think he would have sold his shares to Bob Murray if he'd put the money up.

Will this make him the only (assistant) manager to relegate two teams from the Premier League in the space of one year?

It's official. 9 points docked. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...uth/8571990.stm 17 points from safety with 27 points left to play for.

I suppose the responses since I bumped the thread demonstrate exactly why the Sun don't cover Sahill but gave blanket coverage to Maddy. -
Was it this one... Bobby Robson: Don't blame Mike Ashley for Newcastle's decline

Ah good thats ok then...thats why he bought us. I'd been wondering about that. If you're a fan of NUFC thats just what you want to hear Caulkin gets it right about Hall....I'm a bit scizophrenic about him. I've no real problem with the money he made by selling the club but the cunt he sold it to proves he didnt give two fucks who it was. And now we have this pile of bollocks highlighted above. Words fuckin fail me. Harsh. For a year the majority of fans thought he was a good appointment. So he suckered us as well basically. Seems to me what SJH is saying is football is fucked, that chasing success for a club is a philanthropic exercise now, as opposed to a business choice that can return a profit like it had for him and his partners. The philanthropy can have differing motives though. Abramovic has put his money into it it for personal reasons, SJH suggests Ashley was willing to put money into it to generate worldwide exposure for his brand. I don't see realising that and encouraging it as a particularly unreasonable thing for SJH to have done tbh. SJH doesn't have a brand bigger than the club that could profit from worldwide exposure the club offers while it loses money itself. Mike Ashley potentially does, if his Sports Direct chain expanded into the Asian, America or even African markets it could be worth hundreds of millions...billions to him, and could dwarf the costs at NUFC which gained that exposure. If managed correctly it could be the only model left for clubs to stay in business while remaining the money drains they are....unfortunately, even as a brand promoting entity, Ashley has completely fucked it up.
