Which makes it all the more bewildering as to why he chose to flee the country. I'd have more sympathy for him if he'd stayed and faced the music but by jumping bail I now think he should face the full wrath of the court. Part of his defence this time will be the original judges alleged malfeasance in that matter.

For example, I thought Michael Jackson should have been locked away for a long time, despite there being (apparently) no conclusive evidence of any abuse. I thought he was a dangerous man to be allowed near kids right up until he died. Polanski, on the other hand confessed, but seems to have posed no threat in the 3 decades since the incident.

No So what sort of crimes should be then? Engaging in anal sex with a 13 year old girl would be one of the things I would suggest shouldn't be let slide. There shouldn't be any indisputable punishments related to any crime. Judge each case on it's own terms. I think in some cases it can be a waste of money to jail 76 year old men that pose no danger and haven't been involved in crime for decades.
