Mankind has reached the stage in the 'Developed World' where any benefits of religion are outweighed by the negatives. It is all a great lie used to control the masses - Marx was spot on. spot on Renton. Personally I'm sick of hearing about it, the idea that people can get so het up over someone burning a fictional storybook is ridiculous. I have more important things to worry about in my life, religions are so crazily primitive I see anyone getting worked up about them as complete morons and of no real benefit to the human race. An individual burning books is nowt worth worrying about. Fictional storybooks have been burnt by governments in the past on a scale I find disgusting though and would get het up about if it happened again. A distinction worth making I think. We look forward to you standing in the centre of Tehran and exercising your right to free speech and telling them all how stupid they are ...you're funny. you think that this argument says it all. the onus has to be on civil society to uphold the values we have instituted into our founding documents. otherewise we are just paying lip service to ideals we say we are fighting for abroad. i agree its shitty when people with different agendas/ideals who have come to the west (NA, EU) from countries where they wouldn't enjoy the same freedoms we have, complain or protest about things or say nasty things about the west . but the freedoms we enjoy can't just be for those who were born here, they have to apply to everyone equally. no one has ever questioned that we have it better in the west than in Tehran. http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q...995&bih=553 Do you think the middle east was a peaceful place that suffered no western aggression prior to 9/11 Leazes?

They all get worked up. Catholics haven't even seen bible's burnt, they lose their collective shit every time a film like the Life of Brian or Dogma says a word out of line.

And the educated muslims should be lecturing their own, instead of preaching to us that we should put up with it. Ker-ching, spot on. Yer what? The educated muslim should defend the burning of the Koran? not quite........ tell them to show tolerance ? [here we go] But no-one should tell the bloke burning the books to show a bit of tolerance? Classic eerrr...............they have As have leading muslims.... "We urge Muslims, wherever they are, to exercise the utmost restraint" - Iraq's top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani http://www.presstv.ir/detail/141952.html Everyone's happy.

Just realised I posted the wrong link there... http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/08/13/fla-p...n-burning-plan/

Trying to work out how the story grew by filtering by dates in google. There was nothing after this for a month....before Fox News picked up the story..... http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=new...=&id=108423 ...and everyone went apeshit.

http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=new...=&id=108423 He's been planning it for 2 months and no-one's said a peep. At what point did it become a global cause? When he made the sign?

Were they not just shot and injured?

yes it does Which bit? http://www.iasp.info/pdf/papers/Bertolote.pdf You're so wrong it's unbelievable. Why do you make claims about things you haven't done the most basic reading up on? To be fair HF I think he was probably referring to suicide terrorists which is broadly true (with some exceptions). I can't be bothered to check the source for that bar chart either but I'd stake money on it being flawed regarding relating suicide to religious belief - there's a whole host of factors that could explain why atheists (mainly from developed countries) are recorded as committing suicide more than muslims (off the top of my head would be suicide is a modern 'illness', methodological problems in recording the data, stigma in muslim countries etc). I'll be controversial here and say in general and in its current form, I find Islam to be the most offensive and dangerous religion. CLosely followed by christian nut jobs in the States. I think it's a broader stoke than that. Just based on the rates of suicide in countries according to the major religion therein. ...and I totally misunderstood your point. Which was far more salient than i gave credit for

Self hating muslims? Curious christians? Anybody here actually read it btw? Please use spoilers, I don't want the ending ruined for me. Doesn't incite as much violence as the bible.....or demand readers spread it's word so much.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11251653 What a dick. Did nobody tell him that Speech Debelle's record company totally fumbled the ball when it came to getting her CD in the shops after the Mercury announcement, so much so she left them acrimoniously. "The Mercury Prize was on Tuesday, and on Friday there were no more physical albums in the shops, so, on the Mercury weekend, which would have been my biggest selling weekend, people couldn't get it. I wasn't disappointed that it didn't sell well, I was disappointed in the people I was working with." Corinne Bailey Rae got to number 5 in the charts with her 2010 Mercury nominated album having sold 53,000 in the first week. She's also had a number 2 single, despite never appearing on a talent show.

Presumably though a woman getting stoned for adultery is similarly attracting less attention in the Middle East. The recent stoning controversy is currently the 3rd top middle eastern story on Al Jazeera... http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/ http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleea...2526772598.html

"US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has called the pastor and asked him to cancel Saturday's protest." I was going to complain about the ridiculous attention this barnpot has been getting when I noticed Mark Mardell's quote on the BBC... Leave the fucker to it and don't report it. It's not news. If it was someone in South Shields and the Gazette put it on page 3 I'd say they were daft for giving it such attention. 'International draw Muhammad day' was news, when thousands upon thousands protested by indulging their freedom of expression. This is a single dunce who seems to have far more koran's than I'd expect of him. Who's supplying them? If I were to burn one I'd have to go and buy it first. Who'd be mug enough to do that?
-
How I read that. Time for bed... My fault. Spelling corrected.
-
Funny that this is the top news story while obama's protection for torturers gets buried.
-
Funny to hear Obama and patreas complain about this inciting a violent response when their actions do so to a much much greater degree

Can't imagine the labour/tory graph is any less blatant.
