Speaking of your sig HF, there's surely some updating to do in that compendium? I couldn't bring myself to do it. It's too depressing. Will do at some point though.

I don't buy thgat either mind. It would only sert a precedent for players getting their market worth. If Taylor or Ameobi tried it we'd pack their bags for them. Or players who were subject to ridiculously high offers. Most people, a few weeks ago, would have said 35m for AC would be mental. He was happy, signed a contract and openly admitted to wanting to stay. One word, greed. He's got 10 years or something to make as much money as he can, then 50 years to spend it. He's a thick fuck who won't be getting any punditry work. I'd have no problem with him moving for monetary reasons. What makes him a twat is getting Chez's hopes up with all his press releases before christmas when he knew NUFC have a wage structure they won't break. He came out with this crap knowing he'd jump at the chance to move somewhere that will pay him more. This bollocks about wanting to stay and being gutted is pathetic. Barton took a pay cut to stay with a club he felt he owed as it (fans more than anything) had stood by him (on the whole) through troubling times. The club has given Carroll everything he has, turned him from a decidedly iffy left-back into the countries most exciting young striker and stood by him through troubling times. I cant lay all of this at Carroll's door, it defies logic to do so and if he flops at Liverpool i'd have him back in a flash. If any other club in the league were actually willing to match Barton's wages it might be pertinent. I'd love to see him do a Robbie Keane though and come back for half the wedge in the Summer without having played against us. -
See my sig. Tend to use it more to follow the news than to post owt though.

is this the shitest selection of strikers in your lifetime?

Exactly. It's a deal everyone was happy with. Ashley's still a cunt (I had said I'd give him kudos if Carroll was still here in Feb, unfortunately he waved that opportunity), and now carroll's a cunt too. you can't renegotiate your contract every 3 fucking months! He wouldn't be so willing to renegotiate downwards when he goes through an inevitable baron run would he. That's why you have 5 year contracts...unless you're Don fucking Draper. -

He seems to be making his money back now and when recovers it all I hope he sells the club at reasonable price and never darkens us with his massive shadow ever again. Still not a profitable business, outside of once in a generation deals like this. We can't make another Andy Carroll to balance the books next year. -

"Derek asked me to sign away a few million in loyalty bonus that I was due if I didn't want to go. Although my loyalty is unwavering....I did it...that's right...I did it....because Derek Llambias asked me to and i fucking love him. He's been like a bloody father to me that bloke. I love the glasses off him, the way he helps me get away with stabbing people and punching women." How could we ever doubt him? -

I think he's hamming it up, but I can't think why he would go to this extent to save face whilst potentially alienating himself from the fans at his new club. Cos he's gutted he'll not be able to go to Blu Bambu anymore. -

Can't believbe he's actually arguing to back it up. Assumed it was a joke. Ashley's never spent more than £6 million in any window. http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?showtopic=29569 It's not THAT big a deal. Take of the Barfa money and it's less than £30m. About what he got combined for Milner, Given and Martins....did he rush out and spend that?
-
no they got him to sign it so they would save a 3m quid payout to him. I'm just starting reading this thread, apologies if I find someone else has posted this. Aye...and he was happy to sign...as your post on going to an ambitious club suggests. Anyone thinking he had tears in his eyes as he signed is daft. Makes me think of The Simpsons when Homer weeps as he's eating pinchy, his pet lobster. "He tastes so good!" *sob*

He'll be pissed off when he reads the papers this morning then.

Exactly. I'm not saying otherwise. You seemed confident they were telling the truth when they said they wouldn't accept an offer....whatever package was put together. Others weren't so confident in club statements. I'd call offering hundred pound bets on that misreading the club. -

Wouldn't have thought you'd be as superior as usual for a while, after your 100% guarantee that Carroll wouldn't be sold in this window. I read Carroll wrong and not the club. Understandable given his comments. It wasnt a guarantee either, it was a bet that nae one wanted. I'm more upset about this than when Cole left because am a hopeless bellend of a romantic who loved the fact that we had a home grown number 9. If you think i'm going to pipe down as i was convinced he would stay then you're wrong. How did you not read the club wrong? They've chosen to sell the lad when he's tied up on a five year contract. I dont think Man U wanted rid of Ronaldo but they sold him. Ultimately a player will get the move they want. It's up to the club when that is though. Man U got an extra season out of Ronaldo before moving him on on their terms. They held onto Rooney as Mac says. Arsenal still have Fabregas when he clearly wants to be in Barcelona. Barry stayed at Villa much longer than he wanted to. Even Blackpool kept Charlie Adam. Ashley folded faster than a victorian washer-woman. -

why stop there? renegotiating his contract so soon because of the exceptional circumstances of another club offering fucking 3-4 times his current deal would have thrown the entire north east economy into complete chaos. where would it end? god knows how many lives this decision has saved. thank god for mike ashley. We can't generate offers for players fast enough for Ashley. Steve Taylor's contract almost came to an end while we waited for someone to give us this headache.
