  1. The vast majority of cinema goers at a guess, otherwise they'd all close down Anyone wanting to see a good film too. Been getting free tickets for a few years now and only seen Bad Lieutenant that I'd recommend.....and that pet dragon cartoon. Apart from that it's all been utter dross like Bridesmades, Horrible Bosses and The Proposal.
  2. Who pays for the cinema? http://www.showfilmfirst.com/
  3. The Other Guys. Funnier than I expected. Lot's of chuckles. One Guffaw.
  4. Not saying its not a story, but the hysteria around it is unbelievable. And lets remember they were all doing it, not just the NOTW. In fact there were quite a few references to Piers Morgans biography where he happily admits he hacked phones to land the scoop about Sven and Ulrika. I think its the big moral indignation show from the MP's and other media which I think is quite pathetic and slimy. You repeated her claim without credit to Mensch or any question of its validity. Yes I didnt rush off to research the claim of a member of the select committee, charged with getting to the truth. guilty. She's a Tory mate, your default view should be skepticism

Im sure there were references to it, 100%.....whether they are true are not is a different matter.

  11. Seems exactly what I want in place of facetwat. Unfortunately too few people on it as yet. 10 million people in the first month is Canny good like.

  13. Love the way they're taking the opportunity to ask him about his political sway and how he swings elections. Nowt to do with hacking as far as I can see.
  14. I wonder if Curb Your enthusiam confounds him.

  17. Has he taken his meds today?
  18. The poor table's gonna be black and blue the way old Roop is going at it.
  19. The fella over James Murdoch's shoulder looks like he's there on behalf of the Corelone's and ready to go at it with a shiv if the need arises.
  20. I think the suggestion that Blair was coerced into support for the Iraq war by Murdoch's influence is misguided. I think Murdoch's influence over the public is overstated: the fact that he held the influence he did over polititians was perhaps due (pathetically) to their fear as much as his perceived power. I think you're right, its a mixture of real and perceived influence and its impossible to judge whether Murdoch's pro-Iraq stance had any influence over Blair. This is how politics works in its very essence, you smell which way the wind is blowing and when it starts to blow in that direction, you're already part of it and therefore appear to be responsible in some way. The lad who ran the student union at Durham when i was there went on to become a labour party politician (councillor/MEP/something, cant remember) in Harrow/Wealdstone. I was living in Harrow in 1997 and just before the election i met him in a pub down there. One of the first questions i asked him was why did Murdoch swap from the Tories to Labour? To which his simple reply was, you dont back a losing horse. Thinking back, the change in editorial support came well after there was a clear feeling that Labour would win. However, by swapping, Murdoch created the impression of being the influencer, which as you say has led to a fear of his perceived rather than real power. As an aside, this lad was a good lad but a bit smarmy in an Ed Milliband way and had a bad reputation with the ladies as apparently a girl stayed overnight on his couch and woke up to him wanking himself off in her hair. Again, the details are vague but he was basically made for politics. Robert Fisk did an interesting piece on the Murdoch influence as it's perceived (he pressures people) opposed to how it actually is (employees try to please him)... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/pr...es-2311569.html
  21. ...in the OP where I maintain the current situation. If you mean a selective record of newspaper reports from a renowned group of speculative journalists (football), then yes. If you had any pretensions of keeping a record of anything, you would have noted the £12m cash losss (before amortisation, which increases this greatly) from the relegation season and the £22.2m cash loss from the championship season. Over those two seasons, excluding player transfers, our net debt increased by (funnily enough) £34.2m. When you add in Ben Arfa, Tiote and the costs of player deals from Jan / Summer 2010, then you have around £50m going out of the club, which is balanced by the £47m coming in through player sales. If you had any pretensions whatsoever of presenting the 'current situation' you'd have written about this. Link? Nah, I'll just do the basics of what Ashley's spent on players and what he's earned on their sales cheers, whether he had to do it having got us relegated or not. Maybe that post would have gone better in the 'where's the money gone thread?' but it would be a shame if you hid behind the thread title to avoid addressing the information in the post. I think you've misunderstood "current situation". By which I mean the Summer 2011 window net spend which I resurrected the thread to ponder, and which CT asked me about. I know your well documented problem with the overall figure, but I think more people like to have something with a ballpark figure, whatever wider picture it ignores.
