Not sure he cares. After a week of pr in the US every google of nufc for a month will return a story on sports direct. He couldn't buy that publicity on tyne tees. an antagonistic approach gets him much more press.....and like a genius, this is the second time he's done the same trick.
-
Can't believe I was this daft. Having slept on it, I'm back to my usual stance. He's never Been interested I'm selling and he still isn't. I knew something was up, but the pr push now seems a clear manouvre to maximise Google searches for NUFC in the week that he instigated this controversy. Sports direct will get more mentions than NUFC in the acres of news coverage this garners.

Showcasing the opportunity is so 2009.

Only if you're saying renaming the stadium will inevitibly lead to us winning the league. I don't think SD will go on the shirts as 90% of them are sold in the north east or to ex pats who hate the shithole and won't buy....if it did, ashley won't pay for the privelige. He sees it as his right having invested what he has.
-
In fairness they didn't displace any existing advertisers for most of their current SD branding so there was no opportunity cost. The same can't be said for the shirt sponsor. Course they do. 50% of the electronic boards are SD for a start. Every board around the back of the east stand and Gallowgaye has been replaced too.

Reminds me. I must update the compendium.

Stop being a mug Chez. You think potential stadium naming rights purchasers don't have the vision to imagine how it would work? More bollocks being spun. Plain and simple. I guarantee this is the stadium name as long as ashley owns the club...without paying for it....John hall said himself it was the main reason he bought it. Yeah you're probably right. I said if it leads to £10m coming in. I never thought the last time this came up it was an actual commercial deal so I assume the conviction that no money will come of this deal is based on posters like YNH's insistence that the branding has no direct or indirect financial benefit to the club? Are we now saying that SD will place their brand on out shirts for free? It seems too ridiculous for there not to be a plan to bring money in from it. My point which went over your head was that it's a sign of the times if it is a financial deal. It's not pretty but thats modern football. If it's not then we will see SD on the shirts for free next season, which is too insane to even consider. Have you seen the state of the stadium? They aren't paying for ANY of that. What's the difference?

You've all went (apart from PP, LM and me) "I can see where he's taking us here". Aye so can I, to a place he can make as much money as possible, while actually using us. As a business he's making us as an attractive a proposition for a buyer as possible, fine, but don't fuckin decimate and desecrate our heritage doing it. The word you used "defacing" the two stands, is perfect, that's exactly what it is. It's like someone getting a tattoo of a cock on their cheek, that's how bad it looks. You'll get a few people asking you to quote them on that. Me first.

Good post. What next? He'll change name of club next. Sports fucking Direct Arena????I also take it that we will have the fucking sport direct bullshit logo on our strips from next season with the Northern Rock deal running out. God help us!!!! Couldn't imagine it. Who the fuck would buy one? Would defeat the revenue generating purpose

You're asking if advertising works? The billions pumped into it every year suggests so.

Did Steve Taylor just use the word 'divideance'

"the movies that use this sort of poster will feature a lot of action with a thin veneer of pretentious intellectual posturing. Unless it's a biopic about Johnny Cash."

Okay, tried sitting on my hands and chanting dont do it, dont do it. ......but I'll bite. My point about Ben Arfa was as follows. This was his big move, his chance to prove to all his detractors that he could still do it and do it consistently without all the bad boy antics. Obviously it hasnt gone well, he's had a year out and is struggling to break into a team that is doing very well. The scenario I was discussing was whether he would be happy, (given his ego and the ticking clock, point to prove etc ) spending the season as a bit part player. Or whether frustration would set in and he would engineer a move away, initially on loan, as he did to get here. A simple point that even a simpleton such as yourself should have been able to grapple with. With regard to Jonas, he's brilliant if you like having two left backs (which has been handy at times), but his attacking game has all but dried up, leaving the burden on Obertan's shoulders. His work rate is magnificent but he needs to get forward. If Pardew can somehow get him doing both (and we have end product , the he will be a great addition to the team. Aaaah, thats better. I guess I shouldn't reply, we'll end up with a cringeworthy thread like that one over at NO, but what the hell... "Obviously it hasnt gone well", WTF do you mean? He was great when he came here, then he broke his leg ffs! He's getting better and better, has shown some good stuff already. He's a unique player at this club, we have a lot of hard working players, Ben Arfa has the potential to be the icing on the cake. Our squad is paper-thin, sending out our most skillful player on loan, aye that's a good idea... I take it reading is a problem for you Reading is not the problem with many posters on here. It is more an issue with comprehension. CT is Leazes!! Argh! Love how they work in shifts. Leazes yesterday afternoon, CT this afternoon, who will appear tomorrow afternoon talking utter shit and take an awful raping?

He's not, though. He's a box-to-box midfielder. A rare bird in the modern game and worth his weight in gold. Suprising we haven't missed Tiote at all, but Cabaye was a huge miss in that second half against Everton.

Perfect time to slash your season ticket prices, fill the stadium and tout yourself to American businessmen as the team everyone wants to see.
