  1. "synonymous with marquee signings on sky-high wages, bought for vastly-inflated fees" I tried arguing against this in another thread by looking at ALL of our most expensive signings, but it's basically bollocks innit? Owen and Luque have made us synonymous? Shearer, Tino, Ferdinand, Peacock, Albert, Barton (W), Batty, Fox, Speed, Robert, Martins, Cole, Woodgate count or nowt in our pile of "Big" signings that were good business.
  2. Fair enough. Think the team/Bench was stronger though... Given Dabizas O Brien Hughes Distin Solano Speed Lee Robert Shearer Bellamy Bench Dyer Bernard Ameobi Jenas Elliott
  3. In years to come we'll be comparing new signings with the current team and saying how much better the new lot are compared to.....Simpson, Williamson, Ryan Taylor, Guthrie, Obertan, Best, Lovenkrands, Sammy, Perch, Smith, etc.
  4. The consensus was that even before the addition made in this window, the squad was better than 10/11....which produced Ashley's best finish yet. http://www.toontastic.net/board/topic/31301-did-we-have-a-better-playing-staff-at-the-start-of-the-season/page__fromsearch__1
  5. I've not kept up Leazes, but when you're mentally spending the Carroll cash, why aren't you taking the Obertan, Cabaye, Ben Arfa,Santon fees into account too exactly?
  6. Cheers. West Brom stretched to £7.5m on Shane Long, so the signing of Cisse for a similar fee (with add ons admittedly) is hardly a damning indictment of my West Brom comparison.
  7. You love telling everyone what I've said without actually quoting me don'ty you. Very Leazesesque. Where have I ever stated they "want " to be a yo-yo club? I've said we're being set up so relegation wouldn't hurt if it happened. Do you not agree? It's what you've lauded, the financial balancing act. We needed a replacement striker this time last year, but they wouldn't make the push for 12 months until we were safely ensconced in the top half, preferring the free option no-one else would risk because of his knee trouble. An excellent risk to have taken in hindsight. They preferred to risk relegation than spend the money without future income secured.
  8. You check that source today did you as i thought the site was down in protest against legislation? Wikipedia Its says £7m, so if you're out by £1m on transcribing figures from articles, i dont trust much you've got to say tbh. All of the figures are guesses ('believed to be' 'reported as'), with 30 guesses in total and an uncertainty of at least £1m on each figure you provide, the actual figure could be anywhere. Before we go any further, what does this figure signify anyway? Isnt it what you've been using to back up your philosophical insights into club decision-making? All seems a bit inaccurate and redundant to me. Actually, I think YOU will find there's exactly £27 million left over from the Carroll transfer. So HF has been telling us. in your heed. For 'not letting it pass' this day old vague recollection of my post isn't up to muster. I even had a safety wink in there. I know i'm not a funny man, but that's what the wink is for.
  9. Remember taking the piss out of Leazes for going on about it. Maybe you're misinterpreting things again.
  10. I might use these facts to back up my arguments elsewhere. But in getting the numbers and posting them here I'm like the bbc. No bias. No opinion. You'll notice that I don't comment, criticise or celebrate on updates I make in here. I just quote the updated op. If you're saying referencing facts is my thing then I thank you for the compliment.
  11. Nor have I used it to back up any philosophical insights as I recall.

All seems a bit inaccurate and redundant to me. I don't plan to go further or signify anything. Just keeping track of prices cos its a bugger to find a list of best guesses anywhere. Dunno why it makes you and CT so defensive. You can still see pieces of Wikipedia articles on google when it displays results btw.
  13. The transfer fee is reported to be £4.3m.
  14. Newcastle rejected an offer described as 'derisory'...The Londoners are understood to have initially offered around £1.5m Fee for midfielder believed to be up to £4m
  15. He won't come down and trade punches with you HF, he won't get his hands dirty. He fires intelligent weapons from range while he munches on French cuisine. He flies to Geneva and shit. You're NOT IN HIS LEAGUE! HE saunters in a butterfly mottled silken dressing gown while YOU labour in your y fronts. HE appreciates the sideways glance of a femme fatale late afternoon in a cafe. He adjoins the moment in his diary, perhaps with a charcoal thumbnail sketch. YOU on the other hand froth away in the bog to a copy of Men Only. HE takes walks by the river Seine as the sun dips and appraises his relationship with the river of life...While YOU have cobbled together a goblin in the leccy cupboard out of wax and rubber bands which you sometimes annoint with your man fluid...Only ONE can survive. Love the edit there. Like you couldn't help yourself from waxing lyrical about your man-crush. I've moved from my dogeared copies of men only onto tblop by the way. It's the future.
  16. No clash. I asked for corrections and have taken them gratefully from the start of the thread amending as I go. not seen any evidence of the amounts Chez is quoting though.... Wikipedia said £8m for Shay
  17. The compendium hasn't been updated in months. and it's to big Mike's credit. Thought you'd want this thread resurrected though. A record of the new found ambition you're confident he has found. If you're right there'll be more on the way, and the last of these outstanding sticks used to beat our benefactor will be gone. And you'll be left, triumphant, and gloating that you called it first.

  19. Aye, but I thought all reports of £10m were superseded by £7.5m plus add-ons totalling £9m.
  20. People still quoting the £10m which was just a rumour. £7.5m innit. This is important.
  21. QFT and that. It's like a bunch of charvers have got a racist old tramp surrounded in old eldon square, poking him with sticks trying to inflame his ire and everyone's just walking past letting them get on with it. We might not agree with the entrenched views of the victim, but just leave him to his views and stop the goading. He can argue with the sky quite happily and it harms no-one. That's bollocks imo. People have tried on numerous occasions to try and make him see sense, but he's incapable of it. The pleasant coaxing approach (Do you agree with this. "Yes" And do you agree with that. "of course, I'm not an idiot!" And do you see how putting this and that together gives you a logical conclusion of this. "Does it fuck, and I've been telling you for 4 years that it doesn't") has been done to death, and it gets you nowhere. Ignoring him isn't an option, cos he turns up and gets in people's faces with "omg", "if you really believe that, you're an idiot, i've been telling you for 4 years" etc etc. He's looking for a reaction as much as anyone else is. The exchanges with him inevitably degenerate into pisstaking because it's all there is left to do. I think people putting him on ignore would offend him a lot more than the pisstaking does. I just wanted to call Leazes a racist tramp that would harangue thin air if I'm honest. Mebeez a bit much to call anyone that wastes their time on him in this mood a bullying type of charver, but can't see why anyone would bother engaging with someone who's not open minded enough to consider things might change.
