you can only beat the team in front of you. The way I look at it is our Youth team is doing well in their league and cup and we're in a good position when it come to "home-grown" players. That cannot be a source of gloom, surely? Not at all. But the actual "home grown" players capable of holding down a place in the first team are Krul, Ameobi and Taylor. They've all been at the club longer than the current owners, so hardly a ringing endorsement of their youth development. Once Vuckic, Sammy and Ferguson actually start a few games in a row and look the part, then I'll be happy, but it remains to be seen if they have that level of ability.

It means our youth are better than the other 9 teams in their division Only one of which is top flight.

Of course, none of this means our youth are actually any good, just that we retain plenty.

War Horse I was hoping for a film about a horse that gets fitted with a load of Bond style upgrades and goes into battle with the vile hun, personally winning battles left right and centre. The first hour is actually about a horse who may or may not plough a field (seriously), the remaining hour and a half is like 3 episodes of The Littlest Hobo set in WW1 all mashed together. Tripe.

Not sure what you are getting at and I have a hangover. If he have bought good first teamers that is great. If we have bought good younger players such as Santon, Albeid etc to further develop then that is great. If we have also bought or found promising kids on the streets who we are developing such as A Carrol or Streete etc then that is good to isnt it? Dont we have a very good youth team? It was a response to your suggestion "the fact that we are being mentioned means we are getting the basics right". Which I don't agree with. Having a quarter of your first team squad made up of kids that came up through the ranks is only brilliant if they're of sufficient quality to make an impact on the pitch, and can be relied upon to perform at this level. The reason we have so many kids in our first team squad is nothing to do with their quality though, or they'd get games, it's more to do with the fact we've not bought enough quality to name a 25 man squad without them filling the gaps.

Tiote, Cabaye, Ben-Arfa, Ba, Cisse, Santon, Marveaux, Albeid etc etc So I for one am a happy little bunny. Not one of whom has come from within the club, further evidence that we're not producing players that are good enough, but these players make up more of our squad than the majority of other clubs.

A ridiculous notion, footballwise. Without seeing Ba's contract though, it could be "good business", Tie Carroll to a 5 year deal or let Ba walk in the Summer?
