  1. Quite an error strewn opinion piece http://www.guardian....nds-left-sweden he applied to stay in Sweden at the time and was knocked back by their authorities Why wouldn't Sweden give the guarantee that they wouldn't pass him over to the US, why can't they question him in the UK as has been offered? He's not likely to be charged with any crime that carries the death penalty, what he has done is no more than what newspaper editors across most of the US do, which the US aren't likely to make a capital offence soon. They are however looking into every conceivable angle for getting him on something....as they are with Bradley Manning...while keeping him in detention for year upon year, without charge...against the law of the land. It's widely know there is a case being built against Assange, confirmed again yesterday (mistakenly) by the state spokesperson.... MS. NULAND: Obviously we have our own legal case. I’m going to send you to Justice on what the exact status of that was. Okay? QUESTION: Okay. There is – so you’re saying that there is a legal case against him? MS. NULAND: I’m saying that the Justice Department was very much involved with broken U.S. law, et cetera, but I don’t have any specifics here on what their intention would have been vis-a-vis him. So I’m not going to wade into it any deeper than I already have, which was too far. http://www.state.gov...2/08/196589.htm

  3. Only 25% likely to play according to Premier League. Think SLP is spot on btw. Love his ability to bits. Clear talent but still only managed 17 games last season, while being available for many more. Still a big question mark over him for me. Would love to see him hit 30+ games and really cement himself.
  4. 64 Chelsea 45 Man U 27 Liverpool 15.5 Arsenal 12 Man City 7 West Ham 6.5 Spurs 6 Southampton 5 Reading 3.1 Newcastle 3 Aston Villa 3 Norwich 2 Stoke 0 Fulham 0 West Brom 0 Wigan -0.4 QPR -6 Sunderland -8.5 Everton -10 Swansea Total league net spend £174.2 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2145179/Premier-League-transfers--summer-2012.html Despite losing Van Persie (which I added as it looks a forgone conclusion) You have to say Arsenal look to have done great business. Carzola, Giroud and Podolski in for a £15m outlay.
  5. Weren't half the squad calling the other half worse than muck last week for not travelling to Cardiff? Might be way off, not followed much this summer at all, can't believe there's a proper game tomorrow. \o/
  6. I joined in more for a few pages about 30 pages ago, can't believe it's still going tbh.
  7. "My Heart Will Go On Dan Don" Not that the song isn't ruined at immediately at "Every......" for me, but good fun to point out to women that like it, the "Dan Don" song killer.
  8. Complaining about pretention in S&S is like complaing about music in Grease. Horses for courses. If you want those films in your list, you want the Empire vote. http://www.cinemarea...es-of-all-time/ Grease 333rd and Hairspray 444th What a coincidence. Perhaps you'll also like.... 111. Fitzcarraldo (Werner Herzog, 1982) 222. Mother and Son (Aleksandr Sokurov, 1997) I very much doubt it on both counts though.
  9. Platoon Can't decide. It was canny enough I suppose. Might have enjoyed it more in 1986...or 2086. Too much baggage about it now. Tiger Blood, overwrought Adagio, Forrest Gump, rain etc. It's been out long enough to imitate all over the shop so it looks like the stereotype rather than the template. It hasn't been long enough that people have stopped imitating and the pretenders have fallen by the wayside. Not denying it's place as one of the 250 most popular films, Not my personal Oliver Stone favourite though.
  10. They've got a game on Saturday man, why they eating that foreign muck? Eggs, Bacon and Black pudding....a player should eat nothing else.
  11. It'll be a 15 year job in the embassy, like József Mindszenty.
  12. Ins and outs... Alan Smith - Romain Amalfitano Danny Guthrie - Vurnon Anita Peter Lovenkrands - Gael Bigirimana Tamas Kadar - Curtis Good Fraser Forster - Leon Best - Not quite like for like, but improvements in all areas we've brought people in....assuming these are the players being replaced and no more are sold. Still not sure Good is good enough to challenge/cover our existing CBs and want more done there.
  13. Ecuador FM: we tried to get Sweden to agree to no extradition to US in exchange for Assange going to Sweden - they said NO Utter shambles of an ulterior motive.
  14. Ecuador FM: we have decided to grant Julian Assange political asylum. Good lad.
  15. Deep focus, ceilings in shot, tracking shots through solid objects....wrote the book....that said, I actually enjoyed The Magnificent Ambersons and Touch of Evil more. Ferris Bueller done better than I'd expect mind... http://explore.bfi.org.uk/sightandsoundpolls/2012/film/4ce2b716e5496
  16. The Good The Bad And The Ugly only placed 283rd. Once Upon A Time In The West 78th Not for me like, but Christopher Frayling, THE MAN on Leone, went for the latter. It's a lush database they have set up, clicking from director to film to critic to film to director and back. Could get lost in it for hours.
  17. I wasn't happy to be on 6. Yet to see... 4. Règle du jeu, La (1939) 5. Sunrise (1927) 8. Man with a Movie Camera (1929) 9. Passion of Joan of Arc (1927) All silent or black and white pretentious bollocks though tbh

  20. Could card answer $15trn question? The House of Lords was treated to a 10-minute speech last week by Lord James of Blackheath, from whom we have not heard much since he announced in 2010 that he was in touch with Foundation X, a "genuine and sincere" secret organisation that wanted to lend the British government £75bn. David James was a City businessman commissioned by the Tories, in opposition, to report on ways of eliminating government waste. Last week, the 74-year-old peer was exercised about a story he has picked up that $15trn – that is $15,000,000,000,000 – belonging to "the richest man in the world", Yohannes Riyadi, was deposited in 2009 in the Royal Bank of Scotland. Lord James said he remains baffled after a two-year pursuit of the story, but has all the information on a memory stick, which he is offering to hand over to the Government. His documents include a letter from the Bank of Indonesia telling him the whole story is a "complete fabrication". He took his concerns to the Treasury minister, Lord Sassoon, who said: "This is rubbish. It is far too much money. It'd stick out like a sore thumb and you can't see it in the RBS accounts." And an alert Financial Times blogger said that had Lord James googled "Yohannes Riyadi", the first item to come up would be a warning from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York that the name is part of an internet scam designed to get money from the gullible. Two agents are trying to trace who is behind it. Perhaps Lord James should offer his memory stick. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/diary/diary-bercow-calls-for-root-n-branch-change-on-trees-7439892.html
