Ashley paid over £10m for a defender less than a year into his ownership. And hasn't on any player since. But It's not even having it both ways either. It's realising there isn't only 2 options - rock bottom price or astronomical OTT price. I'm gonna buy the Hunger Games. Deffo gonna happen. I can't wait until next year when it's in the sales. I need to see it now? No chance I'm going to DVD Source http://www.dvdsource...&partner=108257 I'm gonna go to Amazon... http://www.amazon.co...creative=165953 If Amazon are out of stock, I don't need to go back to DVDSource and pay double, I can go to ASDA, and get almost as good a deal, though not quite. http://direct.asda.c...default,pd.html EVERYONE except DVDsource might be out of stock right now, so I miss this window of opportunity. No chance I'll pay top whack. But I go back to the cheaper options once there is some stock in. Not filling a gap is annoying for 1 window but understandable. It's almost 3 years with these 4 fullbacks though. Unacceptable.

There were several paragraphs around those reinvestment numbers that provided the context. To repeat, I agree with Stevie (and Simon Bird) about the difference spending a few quid makes to the mindset of fans, players and manager about the direction of the club. All the other clubs around us spent more on new faces, if not to whip up that level excitement at adding to the squad, to at least keep the pitchforks at bay had they not spent the money that came in from massive player sales. I still agree with Chez last year http://www.toontasti...100#entry967576 If the Cisse purchase restored their credibility entirely for you, fair enough. As much as I like to drive a hard bargain, if I need certain things and there's not a sale on, I pay the going rate.

Think the random woman adds to that second last one. Very impressed it's so well lit from the brickwork in the dark tunnell to the sunlit hill. I would under/overexpose one or the other.
-
Love getting a pithy 1 liner out of Chez. That's how you know he's thrown. He'll knock out a magniloquent paragraph or two to put someone in their place when he's happily sitting on solid ground.

Thought we did a poll last year where the majority agreed that the squad had been strengthened following the summer activity.

Coloccini missed 3 games in total last year. In those games we managed a clean sheet at home to Liverpool as they imploded hilariously, and a clean sheet away at Swansea with a 9-0-1 fomation.....but we conceded 4 at Norwich in an awful defensive display against their big men. If he was to suffer the injury that Steve Taylor did last year, it would be a disaster given our lack of cover. That's not to say you need to have another Coloccinin to sit on the bench, but we should be able to find someone better than Taylor and make him the sub. choosing your FBs from Taylor, Perch & Williamson is frightening. For a year or 2 it's been annoying, going into ANOTHER season like this is a piss take.

I think Stevie's point has been around the belief that spending a few quid on new faces can generate. It galvanizes a crowd who are keen to see better players come out onto the pitch each year and it keeps existing players on their toes about the safety of their place, as well as exciting them to be playing with better quality than Danny Simpson. Whether it is funded by player sales, altruistic owners or any other income, our new blood are much more underwhelming than any of our competitors. Reinvested this summer.... Spurs - £45M Arsenal - £39M Liverpool - £25M Everton - £10.5M Fulham - £7m NUFC - £6M It's a valid argument that those clubs have lost very good players for huge money, and we haven't, but even when we have (Carroll) we have only brought in replacements at less than a third of the price. Any claims that frugality was needed for us to build and that heavier investment could come as we climb the table looks dodgier than a Paul Wyn Tweet at the moment.

Recommend me a good restaurant in Newcastle

Should have said, I've never eaten in there. It is basically a house, but I've had dozens of carry outs and while the quality is variable, when its good, it's great. -

Our pass accuracy yesterday was 84%. Better than the game we won against Spurs (80%) - 390 attempted compared with 404. Tiote was 83% accurate against Spurs compared with Anita (who passed more than anyone else for us) being 80% accurate yesterday. Perhaps a few instances of poor possession loss rankled with you more than the actual quantity of misplaced passes. If anything I think it was our tackling that suffered in the absence of Tiote more than the passing. Only 6 players actually made a succesful tackle for us yesterday. Only 3 managed more than 1. 11 tackles all day compared to Villa's 30.

1 peroni, 1 Becks (pint), 1 carling, 1 fosters, 1 guinness, 1 Coors, 1 kronenberg, 2 Stella. Pic n mix Some rank stuff there. The carling was like an alka seltza dissolved in piss in a plastic glass. Not left me in the best fettle for moving house today.

I hate the ones who start a thread about themselves most of all.

Even relegation candidates don't just lie down in every game. They were bound to want to make a statement after 2 defeats, no points and sitting bottom.
-
The Villa fan that came with us was happy enough with their show.
-
Harsh. They were spirited. Especially early on. Wained, but to be expected after their endeavour.

To beat insomnia I wad advised not to do anything in bed other than sleep (and make sweet love, obviously). Worked a treat.

Anyone mentioned Villa played quite well? Surprised me. Don't think i'll have that relegation bet.

Think the hazing is a good thing personally. It's the loss of long termers like Fop, LM, Rob W, Manc, KSA etc that I don't like, whatever the reasons.

Despite there being an exhaustive match thread, I'm glad this was my first read of the day. "trotters"
