  1. Never understood why people have a clock widgit when there's already a clock on the top bar? Anyways, couldn't be doing with all that clutter personally, this is me....
  2. You can't shortcut to albums. Just takes one press to set an album up as a playlist though....and you can shortcut to that. I agree that rather than doing that, you might prefer to open the player and navigate to the album. Where it's beneficial is you can have a "New Music" icon on your home screen and just play that, adding and removing albums with a single press as and when they've had enough rotation to satisfy you that you know it. Then you can choose wether to move it to your "Best of 2012" playlist or leave it out altogether, if it's worthy of return visits. I stick with my ipods for music though because I haven't got an android player with smart playlists to match Itunes, and I've not got an 120GB phone. Phone for podcasts though. As Gemmill says, followed his recommendation for DoggCatcher and it's great.
  3. The Tyne Bridge on the day it opened. Greys Monument Story from the Shields Gazette has their spin, but the whole country is covered... http://www.shieldsgazette.com/community/cookson-country/between-the-wars-images-from-the-air-1-4921938 http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk
  4. Aye, it's basically the Brits without the hits.
  5. You can download apps that have an old style windows explorer style to them with folder hierarchy to drill down to your items. That allows you to move stuff wherever you want them kept. That's what I thought I wanted when i first got mine....but I quickly got rid of it because you can drag and drop apps and shortcuts into and out of folders on your home screen no bother......so it doesn't matter where your phone actually chooses to store anything. How you organise it on your home screen is the key. EDIT: so you can have a music folder on your homescreen, open that and have shortcuts to all the playlists on your phone. Select one...and it'll start playing.....if that's what you mean?
  6. Nowt for Iphone as powerful as Mighty Text yet either?
  7. Many listed here.... http://www.toontastic.net/board/topic/27706-android-apps/#entry752627
  8. Dunno what you mean by equivalent. There's dozens of music players.
  9. Can you add widgets to your homescreen yet? Always found it odd that Apple refuse to adopt some of the best functionality going. Other companies see the brilliance of an iphone and include the best bits on their models very quickly. Anything good an iphone has generally appears on another phone very soon. Apple value the beauty of their own design too much and are slow to adopt some of the great features from other companies.

  11. ...good to see lercal lads Field Music on there too.
  12. I'd love to see Django Django win it. Loved their album....and always loved The Beta Band too. Also love Richard Hawley....despite not picking up his latest as yet. This is a good prompt to do so. Liked Ill Manors too.
  13. Plan B, Alt-J and The Maccabees lead the nominees for this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize. The competition, which names the album of the year, also includes Sheffield troubadour Richard Hawley, soul singer Jessie Ware and BBC Sound Of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka. Completing the shortlist are Django Django, Lianne La Havas, Roller Trio, Field Music, Sam Lee and Ben Howard. The winner of the £20,000 prize will be announced on 1 November. MERCURY PRIZE NOMINEES Alt-J - An Awesome Wave Ben Howard - Every Kingdom Django Django - Django Django Field Music - Plumb Jessie Ware - Devotion (pictured) Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough? Maccabees - Given to the Wild Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again Plan B - Ill Manors Richard Hawley - Standing at the Sky's Edge Roller Trio - Roller Trio Sam Lee - Ground Of Its Own Last year, PJ Harvey became the first act to win the Mercury Prize twice, for her album Let England Shake, after previously winning in 2001. Eight of this year's albums are debut releases, with Richard Hawley the only artist to have been nominated for the prize before. Plan B, aka writer, director and actor Ben Drew, is the most recognisable name on the list, having scored several top 10 hits from soul-tinged 2010 album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks. His hard-hitting hip-hop record Ill Manors accompanies his film of the same name - a tale of life on the streets of London - and he is already joint favourite with Hawley to win the prize. It went to number one in its first week of release in July and the rapper is aware such success could hinder his chances of winning the prize. "Probably, but it's good enough to be part of this," said Drew after the nominations were revealed. "My name's on this list, this album and what this album represents. UK hip-hop is on this list." Only two women made the cut in Lianne La Havas and Jessie Ware, who performed at Wednesday night's nominations launch in London. "I just wanted to make something that I would love in 10 years and still be proud of when maybe there isn't a music career," she said of her R&B influenced debut Devotion. Fellow nominees The Maccabees have tipped Ware to win, not least because they are old friends. Guitarist Felix White said: "It's kind of bizarre. I'm just so happy that the girl I knew when I was 12, who said she wanted to be a singer, is here now. It's just a really beautiful thing." Django Django said they are honoured to be on such a "brilliant list" The Maccabees are nominated for their third album, Given to the Wild, which took a while to sink in despite the record' s critical acclaim and top five chart position. "It wasn't until we were outside and we were let in that we knew for sure. Hugo was saying 'there's no way that people can take it back now!'," revealed singer Orlando Weeks. "We've got a really early flight to Boston, we just don't want to miss that - but I think this warrants a little bit of celebration." Kiwanuka said he had followed the Mercury Prize as a teenager. "I love albums and I worked hard to try and really make an album," he told the BBC. "The way we listen to music now, it's difficult sometimes to hear a piece of work as an album and this gives people the opportunity to do that, so it's such cool news." Several heavily tipped records failed to make the list, including Kate Bush's 50 Words For Snow and Florence + The Machine's Ceremonials. The shortlist's more esoteric choices include Roller Trio, dubbed "the new sound of British jazz" and folk artist Sam Lee, who sourced a lot of his music from the gypsy traveller community. "I think I'm privileged that I'm not in competition with anybody," said Lee. "If I win, I win on account of being different. If I just stay as one of the nominees then I'm there as a justified member of a group of would-bes." Along with Django Django, who said it was "amazing" to feature on such a "brilliant list", Alt-J's experimental art-rock has also been heavily tipped to take the prize. In a statement sent from New York, drummer Thom Green said it felt "very surreal": "I want people to know if there's anything you want to do just go out and do it. That's basically what I did, do what you want and do what you love," he said. Chairman of the judging panel Simon Frith said the shortlist "showcases a wonderful variety of musical voices, emotions and ambitions". This year, Channel 4 takes over coverage of the event from the BBC and will broadcast the ceremony, featuring live performances from each of the nominees, from its new home at Camden's Roundhouse. The four-year agreement also includes a series of intimate Album of the Year Live gigs around London from the 12 shortlisted acts.
  14. Unfortunately not tonight. Caught up on my Tim Hartford, Glenn greenwald, Charlie Brooker, Matt Bors and Xkcd instead. Supposed to be up at 6.30
  15. Aye. Apple charge £20 for space and then charge for the music to fill it or expect you to source it elsewhere. Google only charge for the New music, not the space. Spotify charge £120 to stream all the music you like and to store it on your own memory, however much you have available. While not allowing you to keep it once the subscription ends.
  16. You could get it with an IP hidden. I think it works, I mean there's some people that use it. Just answering your question on what the android options are.
  17. You mean on your phone? You'd need to sync to your phone....but I would just buy on my phone and make available offline without even touching the laptop if that's what I wanted to do.
  18. 6 times as much.....for 600 times as many songs.
  19. I go to work and use a work PC...my entire collection is available via the browser. I go round a friends or family members....ditto on their PC. Or the library, or doing a DJ set at the clerb. No need to install Itunes or owt. Google is limited to 20,000 tracks, match to 25,000....Match costs £20+ a year, Google costs nowt.
  20. No need to....it's got just about every album going stored in the cloud. You just stream it directly. Also allows you to make any playlists you like available offline.
  21. The other thing Google Music can do is offer your music library for streaming on any device capable of running an HTML5-compatible browser. Forget installing iTunes every time you want to grab a song on a new computer, all you need to do is open a browser somewhere. Finally, Google Music is free. iTunes Match isn't.
