Do you want Mike Ashley to stay as Newcastle owner? Yes: 44.74% "Majority"

Apparently Son of Saul is available on Netflix now. Might be a bit miserable for a recovery (think Schindlers List) but one of the most praised new films.

You start an interesting debate and then take a bat to it with contradictory claims that the people that accelerated our economy to breaking point, have decided to slow it down by introducing those things as a master plan to retain the power/wealth they have accrued all while then opposing those things and investing millions in fighting a propaganda war to ensure no political action on any of them whatsoever to allow them to keep accelerating growth. The companies driving this are vast ships that the captains can barely direct in any direction but forward. Everyone in them is pushed to achieve and to exceed expoectations, sign more contracts, deliver more change, evolve better and faster products, introduce efficiencies that lower costs and drive profits. None of them are looking to slow any of that down. Only legislation has any chance of doing that.

Added it to my list when he was interviewed by Nate Silver on "What's The Point?" https://player.fm/series/whats-the-point-1203953/sparks-part-2-nate-silver-and-michael-lewis-121616

Isn't the post capitalist problem less what the government can earn to pay for services (your tax solution) and more what the economy needs us to spend in order to support itself and maintain the facade of a *GROWTH* economy? Q. How do we grow? A. Get people to spend as much of their money as possible Q. How do we grow if people already spend all they earn? A. Give them credit Q. How do we grow the economy when people already spend all they can borrow? A. Allow them to borrow more, but insure against them defaulting en masse Q. How do we grow the economy after everyone has defaulted on their credit A. Fucked if I know. *Runs off with Billions * Taxing the people that have earned most from this economy and spending that on social care, but not changing the model from one that rewards growth to one that rewards sustainability will only lead us back to the same problems of boom and bust. We're giving Robots the jobs of people and allowing people to borrow to survive with job loss and using whatever taxes we can gather to pay for their deteriorating physical and mental health. I've not read the Mason book yet.

For people that listened to the 6music Adam and Joe show there's a history that makes him all the more likeable. Joe would beat him on song wars all the time and Adam's indignation seemed only partially feigned. If they're still available on Itunes they're well worth a retrospective listen. Then Joe went off to Hollywood to work with Spielberg and made his own film. Adam seems very insecure about all of this. But Buxton's podcasts are some of the most original well constucted you'll hear and done with so much more care than the ones that record a chat and dump it, or even the perfectly constucted This American Life ones that are more slick but stick to a pretty rigid formula. He experiments with the form more than any other I've heard. The music he produces for them is usually his standard comedy ones he's always done, but he'll do brilliant ear worm synthesizer bits or JAM or Bill Hicks Live album style interludes as well. Those Bowie ones struck me as especially high watermarks across all the podcasts I've ever heard and I think there were bits on the Jonny Greenwood one that were superb too.

Paxman is a proper Partridge there. Recommend the Adam Buxton Bowie specials and podcasts. They're superb and look at a lot of what Bowie was doing with his own website in the early days. There's a particulalry good story about Dara O'Kearney who Bowie befriended as his biggest fan online and brought him to gigs and shared ideas on what the internet was and would become O'Kearney wrote about it here and includes reference to that Paxman interview. Every day in 2016 there were more music streams (1.2bn) than downloads in the whole year in 2015 (734m). https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.buzzanglemusic.com/wp-content/uploads/BuzzAngle-Music-2016-Report.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwiP56LV8LXRAhUkLcAKHYwxBswQFggaMAA&usg=AFQjCNGZnu4cfhoIcaScIdDI2nzxYNqNdQ&sig2=VlG-8QHJS6veMJGvO9L2jw

Been banging on about Colin Stetson (Arcade Fire sax) on here for a few years now, but didn't mention his new one this year. 55 minute album, 3 tracks reimagining Gorecki's 3rd symphony. Probably not for many, But highly recommend, if you haven't got 15 minutes for the whole lot go to about 6:40 on this, enjoy the racket of the crescendo and then the gorgeous few minutes that follow.

Wonder how involved he'll be with anything. He'll be sitting at the big desk playing on his ipad tweeting nonsense while the chief of staff and other advisors make decisions and do all his work for him disregarding whatever shite he spouts. He'll fly where he's told and smile when he's told to smile. How different that is from previous presidents is debateable. Bush Junior and Reagan seemed to do more harm than most just doing as they were told. But I think Trump will be more of a Kevin the teenager and throw a wobly when he doesn't agree with advisors. I think he's probably different to them in that he believes he knows better than anyone around him and he's not been mentored to where he's got so doesn't feel dutybound to listen to anybody more conniving.

Well done Meryl Streep btw... "We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. That's why our founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in our Constitution. So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood Foreign Press and all of us in our community to join me in supporting the Committee to Protect Journalists." The CPJ have staunchly supported Wikileaks and Assange, so it's good to see them supported while others look to admonish WL following the publication of Clinton emails and Trump's election

Didn't start it, but interfered enough to taint it so we drew. Sorry lads (and lass). Someone (and only one) start the Brentford thread with a public poll please. Let's make sure I'm not forced to derail our season entirely. -

Cheers. Was just on my phone so hadn't read any of the docs. Big spending January then. Woo hoo!

What I've Googled suggest it's securing a loan against property. Why secure your own loan to yourself though?

What's a registration of charge? Docs released today say Ashley (SJ holdings) made one against NUFC. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/02529667/filing-history

It's not just the twitterati either though. Boos at half time when it was 1-1 v Forest. Bile and vitriol being spewed by AWAY fans at their own players in the bigger allocation at Blackburn. The chronicle pandering to them with scare stories.
