  1. Cheers, link works now too, was just a white house front page when I first tried. Like I say, I'm more intrigued by the questions than the bland answers, so Carney got.... Q. What about the drone strike that killed the 16-year-old son of Awlaki. Does he meet that definition of a senior operational leader as outlined in the white paper? MR. CARNEY: Answer Q: One more. Israeli television says the President will visit..... Spicer got Q December 3rd, on Fox. [Trump] said, "The other thing with [the] terrorists is you have to take out their families." Is that still his position? MR. SPICER: Answer Q Even the families of terror suspects, civilian members of families, Sean? MR. SPICER: Moves on to another Q Q Thanks, Sean. Just following up again about the strike over the weekend in Yemen. Can you confirm that the eight-year-old -- the reports that the eight-year-old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki was killed in that strike? And if you can address sort of the killing of the American citizen in this anti-terrorism operation. MR. SPICER: Answer Q Sean, Hallie’s question was about civilians that are being targeted by the administration in anti-terror raids. And Zeke’s question was about al-Awlaki’s daughter. So let me ask you: Is the President willing to kill and target American citizens, even minors, just because their family members are terrorists? MR. SPICER: No American citizen will ever be targeted. I find the latter to be a far more concerted push for answers with reporters working together to follow up each others questions and get answers, and the last response included a much more satisfactory, conclusive promise than anything in the Obama discussion (even though targets and "collateral damage" will always be muddled by the administration, as we know the definition of al qaeda fighters Trump inherits is any male over 16 in the target zone).
  2. Don't be silly Renton. A Trump strike killed an 8 year old American this week. It's disgusting. As disgusting as when an Obama strike killed her brother. I'm not plucking events randomly from 5 years ago. These things are intrinsically linked and relevant. i'm commenting directly on the heinous acts of the current president. i said last week that Obama's acts (and those of Bush) would be repeated and built upon by Trump and that the criticism would be easily deflected by Trumps camp as a double standard, given the lawlessness that has prevailed prior to his presidency.
  3. Nowt at that link. Would like a read if you paste it in cheers.
  4. No, but Trump (rightly) has a dogged white house press corps pushing for answers repeatedly, in order to embarrass the white house and highlight the issue. If one question was asked at an Obama white house press session, it looks like it was only one and then tea & biscuits. The best bit of questioning came later on, outside the white house press corps, from Sierra Adamson who cornered the former white house press secretary leading him to blame the kid for having a terrorist dad.
  5. Nonsense. The Democratic and Rebublican apparatchik press need to learn some lessons about what it means to be a reporter and base it on truth, not their allegiances. What they have done in the past has led people to agree with Trump when he calls them dishonest. Despite Trump lying through his teeth. Trump's obvious flaws shouldn't stop inconsistencies in reporting being commented on. I've criticised Trump, but I'm never one to add redundant criticism (or praise) to a chorus that's already in full swing. For my opinion, see Gemmil's posts in this thread. I tend to post things I don't think have already been well covered. I was only as obsessed with Obama as I was with Bush, and will be with Trump when they do things that don't seem to be widely criticised by most major news outlets or already mentioned on here.
  6. It's a criticism of the press, not Obama.
  7. Biggest grossing film in china, ever. Same writer, director, producer as Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle (Stephen Chow). I loved them, so was hoping it would be better than the trailer suggests. It wasn't much. Still enjoyable enough. Proper mad stuff though, almost a kids film but with heinous, bloody, gratuitous mermaid murder thrown in. 3 stars.
  8. The whole thread under the tweet goes into some detail on whether any questions were ever actually asked. The point still stands, given it's so difficult to find a question and even harder to find an answer on the subject. Unlike the instant barrage Trump's spokesperson is (rightly) handed.
  9. Second post is a list of headlines from the months of investigations the intercept has done into leaked FBI documents. Follow the link in the first post and there's articles for every headline. It's a mammoth piece of work.
  10. Ignoring the deathly typo, that's telling.

Those were the 2 cases that led to such scrutiny of Obama's policy on extra-judicial assassination of American citizens. No information who the primary target was or whether they were a target Obama refused to strike because of fallout from such an attack previously. I get an uneasy feeling it's a statement though, with nothing whatsoever to back me up.

  14. Movie drinking games are supposedly popular though. Anyone ever actually played one, or do we not live in Big Bang Theory world?
  15. I think there's a marked difference between blame and contribution. Everyone would recognise that vacating the left in preference for the centre or an interventionist middle east policy has some inevitable negative consequences, without necessarily absolving the right wing racists or the perpetrators of terrorist attacks for their actions.

  17. Some extracts from a 2012 article on how people viewed Hitler you had Americans meeting Hitler and saying, "This guy is a clown. He's like a caricature of himself." And a lot of them went through this whole litany about how even if Hitler got into a position of power, other German politicians would somehow be able to control him. A lot of German politicians believed this themselves. reporters were sometimes slow to write about the things they witnessed firsthand. I tell the story of Hans Kaltenborn, a famous radio broadcaster of that era. He was of German descent, but had grown up in the United States. Right after Hitler took power, there were attacks on Americans who failed to give the Hitler salute. Kaltenborn went over with the attitude that these reports were greatly exaggerated. Then his teenage son got beaten up for exactly the same reason. The Nazis apologized profusely and said, "I hope you won't write about this." And Kaltenborn replied, "No, I don't insert anything personal in my stories." Even after this happened to his own son, he was reluctant to write about it. Sure enough, once Lindberg got there, the Germans wanted to show off everything to him. They took him to the factories that were producing the most modern fighters and bombers. Lindberg really knew his stuff, so he could turn to the American diplomats next to him and say, "This one is more advanced than French model but less advanced than American model." He played this role very willingly, knowing this intelligence was being transmitted to Washington -- probably because he thought the more his government knew about the power of these weapons, the less likely they'd be to get involved in another war. He later became part of the America First movement, which tried to keep America out of war at all costs. But he provided valuable intelligence. The Lindbergs were definitely among the American people who tried to say, "Hitler is bringing Germany back to its feet. Look how orderly this place is now." When the controversy over the 1936 Berlin Olympics took place, one of the American Olympic Committee members who went to check out the place said at a certain point, "Well, my men's club in Chicago won't accept Jews either." So there was a kind of camaraderie there, a sense of, "Ho, ho -- we all do that." it's sort of a natural human tendency to say, "Oh, that's just a figure of speech. They don't really mean it. It's just a way to whip up supporters." But at a certain point, people began to witness things that were unbelievably horrifying. And of course, there was Kristallnacht. After that, even the people who at first wanted to dismiss every incident as local people getting out of control began to take the problem seriously. There's quite a difference between being socially anti-Semitic and seeing people beaten on the streets. Mowrer is having lunch with group of Jewish bankers in Germany, and it becomes clear that each of them has given some money to Nazi Party at the urging of non-Jewish industrialists. They were told it would be a way of protecting themselves a bit, and they believed it. Just like a lot of Americans, the German Jews thought, "This can't really be happening." But one of the things I found fascinating in writing this book was to put myself in the shoes of the people there, who didn't have the benefit of hindsight, and wonder, 'What would I have understood? What would I have done?" I came away from it all knowing that I couldn't, with any assurance, say I would have been any smarter. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/03/early-warnings-how-american-journalists-reported-the-rise-of-hitler/254146/ Can't imagine being the one saying "it's exagerrated" as people are handcuffed for their race/nationality/religion as the leaders responsible and their underlings ignore the courts telling them to stop.
  18. Apply this everywhere now I say. For every abortion performed, two women have to be impregnated. For every gun taken from a criminal 2 have to be given to children.
  19. A delta airways computer outage caused the department of homeland security to ignore a court order. Makes sense
