I think Mumford's tipping point was the World Cup in 2010. They were all over the BBC then and I think Lion Man was the defining song used after we exited to Germany. It's a perfectly crafted song too.

...and on the Glastonbury hate.....I don't like that either. I've never been personally, and I thought Wiley's twitter rant about it over the weekend was funny....but it's hundreds of thousands of people going to see bands. Why would that possibly be a bad thing? I know people that don't go to a gig in Newcastle (where they live) all year long...but spend the year excitedly telling me I must go to Glastonbury, they go every time and it's "amazing"....then they ask who I recommend on the smaller stages who have played much more intimate gigs at The Cluny a few months back I think it's this sort of person that gets people wound up....but I'm just happy they are going to see any music and want to discover some other bands that don't yet have a place on the Pyramid Stage. I'm also delighted that these people subsidise an event so big that the BBC screen the entire 3 days. So I can go to the website and cherry pick entire sets to watch from Portishead, Django Django, Public Enemy, Chic, Tame Impala, BADBADNOTGOOD, The Strypes, James Blake, Devendra Banhart, Fuck Buttons, Cat Power, Steve Mason, Rufus Wainwright or Villagers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ej58q9/performances/lg49mb I just wish they would do it every year.

There are literally dozens of shit bands on at Glastonbury that haven't had the bile they have....Rita Ora man? The personal offense taken by some at fucking Mumford and Sons is daft. Exactly the same as the coldplay thing. They are a clean cut, unit shifting machine of quiet/loud, tempo quickening corporate stadium Rock. They have literally nothing to rile anyone up. Apart from being on top of the pile at the moment, rather than among the support acts below them....therefore an easier target. From UK album sales last year they are the biggest act on at Glastonbury. As the biggest festival in the UK it's perfectly legitimate that they headline. All power to them I say. They are a tight group. They have gigged constantly since starting up. They've made some cracking singles. They've played with Bob Dylan. They have my respect.

Doubt Cracking performances all round, but most of all from Meryl the Streep. About a head nun that investigates the priest of her parish for noncing. Provides an argument that being a victim of the noncing isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world either...which was a bit surprising. -

While less exposed to financial ruin we remain in a worse financial position. More debt. Less commercial income. Less match day income. -
The beauty of it is how you can tailor it to be exactly what you want. I have a dozen Twitter lists that I follow in Flipboard, pushing longer articles to Pocket, promoting frequently good writers to an RSS feed on Feedly. In the week or 2 since the NSA revelations, thanks to Twitter, I have started to follow the tweets & writing of a dozen people clued up on the shit that is going down....Shane Harris, Thomas Drake, Ron Wyden, David Simon, Janine Gibson, Eli Lake, Ewan Macaskill, Spencer Ackerman, emptywheel, etc. I use it as a news referral site mainly.....the commentary these writers put on Twitter is more of an aside to their in depth writing...or the writing they link to. Others just have everyone in a timeline they follow directly on twitter...Huw Edwards alongside Anal Cathword...works for them, just having something to read while taking a shit I guess.

Fuck Buttons leaked recently btw...for those who like fucking tremendous music... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVzdi22Bi0I The album version is 7 minutes

Hashtags should only ever be used as a starting point. You use them to find people you like on a topic. Those people should be added to a list...and once you have a good sized list, then you just open that fenced in group of sensible heads, not the entire loony bin. People in your list will retweet others who you can add...but they'll tend to be people that you know you like recommending people you thionk you will like. I still occasionally look at the #NUFC hashtag.....but only to see what the loons are up to.

Agreed. Lumping every "popcorn" movie into the same bucket does an awful disservice to those that are well made. -

It's not anywhere close to the same class as any of the good Arnie films, or Die Hard. Why you would say the likes of Terminator 2 and Die Hard are "a bit shit" is beyond me, they are superb action "romps". You don't switch off in the least because they are highly entertaining characters doing highly entertaining things. I've not seen Van Helsing, but the underworld comparison is a good one. Shitty characters with little to no motivation whatsoever doing boring things while being unfunny about it. I can see someone enjoying this who enjoys Once Upon A Time on Channel 5....but that's not a guarantee, that's a poorly acted modernisation of a fairy tale with awful effects and no sense of humour.....but my Mrs has been loving it. Even she was bored shitless by Hansel and Gretel though. Along with Jack The Giant Slayer it's another example of lazy cashing in on a formula shrek started and perfected in it's first film donkeys years ago (pun intended). Adding gore and sweary's makes it no less derivative. -

I'd love to see withces explode if they did it with any sort of flair. Film was godawful though. The moment they saved that wifey early on you knew she was a witch. The moment the fella got a little short of breath and did the basil exposition about his injections you knew it would cause him bother in the final battle. The moment where an entire searching party were killed in the woods bar one, who came back to the pub and exploded in front of the townsfolk.....who laughed and said "cool"...gave an indication of how much the makers cared about characters....so as a viewer you don't give a fuck either. I'm happy to let a film off with that sort of thing if it's funny, but the only funny moment in this was the townfolk copying Monty Pythion and shouting "Buuuuurn her!" -

With Red on the bus. The bit where he finds Andy in a tropical paradise working on his boat is pure producer interference. It also built up enough good will to get away with it and I still love Shawshank... But I was more annoyed with it.... Because it's supposed to be all about Hope... better if we finish the film in the hope that red finds Andy. -

It didn't feel as bad as the tacked on ending of Shawshank Redemption. I can see why it would annoy, but it had built more than enough good will with me. Good that it pays homage to the original film too... -
