Or to put it another way...

Hoyed this up after the game on Saturday. He's miles off where he needs to be once we're promoted.

They've got 8 points in the last 11 games. They've got 11 left and need 6 just to get out of the relegation places as it stands!

But if the club are dodging questions on funds for summer then that's a story. No mention of the promised training ground. That's a story. They seem to be fearful of saying anything that will upset the fans who are well and truly on board for the Rafa revolution. Surely anyone with any sense or memory can see the rebuild of the club supposedly going on is totally hollow though. As a reporter you'd think there'd be some natural inclination to tell it how it is. -

They answered another question to the one asked. Questioned on funds available they were keenest to say "the greater focus is presently on pushing for promotion and getting the best from its current players". Of course no promoted side has any reason to sell, they've just increased their income manyfold and the wages have remained static. The Chronicle going with that headline was daft. Similarly the club said they were bound by regulations on safe standing and that they would not be forcing the issue until that changed, despite having seen what Celtic have done. Headline from the chronicle was along the lines of "How SJP is set to change over the next few years when safe standing comes in" The other one was that there is no announcement on a sponsor, which the chronicle sold as BIG sponsor news. Local papers are taking a pasting on their sales and find it difficult to drive traffic to their sites, so I feel for them, but the way they mined forum minutes that we could all read for ourselves for several overhyped stories was tabloidesque. Their MO should be detailed insight and insider news from dedicated club reporters, but the approach seems to be to inflate stories already in the public domain and tag a load of adverts to it. They're breaking the trust of readers that a click is worthwhile. -

Come on people, we need a reading thread to vote on for 24 hours and I don't know if you've seen The Cooler, but I'm basically William H Macy when it comes to this.

What filled you with confidence? The Chronicle spin on what was actually in the minutes was ludicrous. -

I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone where nothing that has gone before is remembered. We know that the NSA are storing every email and every text and details of every call and that anyone with a login can access those details. Why does Trump think Obama would have to order a tap on him specifically and why does Clapper (who denied any blanket collection in the first place) have to come out and couch a half denial in terms of court orders and being unaware of what other agencies are up to and why does his denial even count for anything? If Trump doesn't want to be surveilled he's in a unique position to instruct the NSA to stop bulk collection.

Aye, absolutely, but my point was that that's the same simple basic conclusion the likes of Pardew have been able to come to when playing this sort of opposition. That's not what impressed me on Saturday. The difference is the months of work on the training pitch and in games that leads to trust throughout the squad. The confidence in pressing them back from 40 yards, rather than 18. The pace of break and the pressing when the ball goes loose. I don't blame Huddersfield fans for not seeing the difference in how Newcastle specifically have managed that sort of game before and how we do now. But you'd think they would appreciate (having not lost at home since November) a team that was able to completely shut them down while taking the chances to win the game. -

I think some people are going OTT on the tactical masterclass Rafa is supposed to have implemented. We've done similar to Swansea in the last few years pre-Rafa where they just pass it to and fro for 80 odd minutes and we score the one chance we have. What was different was that our defensive line was much higher and more of a unit so we never looked "camped out" and they rarely got through. We always looked more dangerous on the break and forced more (and better) saves from their keeper. I think that is down to ongoing work with the players rather than tactical decisions for this one game. -

I didn't want to underplay it. I put the Sessions video up where he himself said no-one should be above the law. Justice doesn't apply to elites though. Nixon, the Clinton's, clapper, Sessions, Bush, Cheyney... Blair. None of then have been charged with any crimes and only 1 paid with his job half a century ago. Soldiers following orders to torture, Nixon associates, leakers like snowden who reveal clapper's crime, other people who take sensitive information off secure servers. These are the people that the law applies to. It's grotesque and shouldn't be dismissed because it's the way things have been. I was being matter of fact about the political damage that would be weighed up. It shouldn't be the case.

Yeah, I liked it, but thought it was all about the last couple of minutes, which were superb. The 28 minutes before weren't as consistently gripping.

Aye, Just watched the last 2. Anyone who thought the Christmas one wasn't up to scratch shouldn't be put off watching these. They've Taken it up a notch and the crossword one especially is perfectly crafted.

Steven Wright. He does K-Billy on reservoir Dogs. He's a regular. Paul Simon appears and does the music. David Blaine has a mad cameo too.
