But it pales into insignificance compared to dozens of other on pitch assaults. As bad as Canona's Kung Fu kick? No. As bad a Suarez getting all bitey? Course not. Barton's elbowy, kicky, headbutt at Man City? Nowhere near. Di Canio taking down a referee, or Prutton...Ben Thatcher's elbow or Roy Keane's career ender. Pardew's a manager and will be held to higher standards. As he should. But the desperation of our local media to sensationalise is pathetic.

    My Mrs doesn't care about football, but she was losing her blob watching them go on and on about what a massive huge, disgrace it was on MOTD... so I thought I would edit it down to a short selection of the criticism. I'm sure it's very fair from an outsider perspective.... Why was Meyler booked though?

    Just watching motd. That first goal was lush. I've given krul plenty of stick for his throwing so it was satisfying to see us break from him hitting it to the half way line
