I reckon the club could have tried to get away with an extension for shola and signing De Jong long term. But the discontent, cancelations and protest will lead to better quality than that coming in. Problem will be if we spend £40m and the majority revert to "support the team, not the regime" which seemed to consist of sitting on hands and doing fuck all. Whatever signings come in, i'dlike to see the pressure on Pardew and Ashley continue. Once the media are reporting on widespread anger there's little else fans can or need to do, other than keep voicing it.

I don't know what result people expect from any sort of protest, but if it's anything like Ashley selling or hoying in £50m obviously that is never going to happen. I can't imagine the club would dare go another window like the previous 3 given the discontent though. To that extent I think what's been done already has been great and I wish that sort of action had been taken much sooner.

I think the atmosphere at the game was more important than the number that walked out. But it needed that action to gee the crowd up. The same fans sat mute through the Swansea game. I don't care if Ashley ignores it. It was just brilliant that the whole crowd said "fuck you!"
