  1. Between Keegan leaving nufc (1997) and Pardew taking over (2010) the average full season PL points haul was 50.9 Pardew's average is 51.7
  2. Aye, since Robson went that's been the best couple of years for going to games at SJP for me...and it was relegation and championship football.
  3. Turn off the speakers. It's like a Radio 1 big weekend before the game these days. Can't hear the person next to you speak, let alone the 3 lads trying to start a song 40 rows back. Everyone sits on their arse playing with their phone...and that barely changes after kick off. In the family enclosure I swear I'm the only one who stands for the players and goes "whey!!" after every players name is announced*. It embarrasses my nephew. Keep telling him he should be embarrassed by everyone else and join in with me. *The only announcement there should be pre-game... and not with any embilishments like "let's hear it for Sammy Ameobi!! MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!" bollocks that
  4. There's very little that's drawn me back for more than a few listens to be honest so I'm struggling to come up with many I really loved. Amerigo Gazaway probably got most re-listens from me. He did a quality mashup album of Mos Def and Marvin Gaye songs and another that was all James Brown tracks with vocals from Nas, Busta Rhymes,The Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep and others. He also did a De La Soul & Fela Kuti mix back in 2011. They're all free at his website http://amerigomusic.com/releases/ The Menzingers album wasn't as good as their last but The Talk is a the one song I have listened to more than any other, perfect breakup fare. That's closely followed by Dingo Fence by Self Defense Family. There's not many songs more childish, but it should thrill you, it sounds good. A cunt filled, guitary, repetitious song that would happen if Kraftwerk were a garage rock band. Third place goes to Seasons by Future Islands, which is gorgeous.
  5. That's how the Rangers fans that tweeted me read it. I think you're always going to buy too much stock, and reduce the price before new strips come out though. Wonder if NUFC have a similar "deal" in place with Sports Direct where we pay them £40 for every shirt they sell for £20.
  6. Rangers set aside almost a million to pay Sports Direct in case of retail losses. Doesn't suggest that the retail outsourcing is necessarily to the benefit of either club.
  7. The falling graph includes all commercial income with lapsed sponsorships and the free Sports Direct, Firetrap, Cruise etc advertising. I did reply to someone that the accounts don't make clear if the retail operation is more or less profitable for the club though. You'd think it's something the club would crow about in accounts.
  8. Some of them already have won album of the year awards. Just about all of them feature in the tip 50s at the nme, guardian, moji, uncut etc Its not pretentious anymore than saying film if the year might be something like Mr Turner rather than Transformers 4,
  9. I find that's the the mid-point of these threads. What they always turn into is people moaning that they haven't heard of most of the bands mentioned. As if that's the fault of the people who have. They aren't made up. The whole point of "Best of" lists is to share. Youtube them. You might like them.
  10. Make it 51 Decemberists album has leaked
  11. New candidates? Run the Jewels Wu Tang Clan Todd Terje Haven't heard the Scott Walker & Sunn one yet like.
  12. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/11262948/Telegraph-denies-Newcastle-lying-accusations.html
  13. Suits their needs perfectly for the non internet majority who go on a Saturday and pick up the chronicle every now and then though. Most of those will read that and take it as confirmation there's no impact on nufc from Ashley buying into Rangers. Forgotten by the time it would ever become an isue.
  14. You wonder if they`re aware of the rules and how transparent these statements are in terms of selectively responding to reports, or if they're actually incompetent and haven't read/understood the restrictions. The face that uefa didn't refer to any clubs specifically is irrelevant. They reiterated that article 3 will apply. Which restricts both clubs playing in Europe.
  15. I don't think anyone denies the search power or the volume available to be searched by the intelligence agencies. It's joining the dots that can't be done yet, by man (too slow) or machine (not cognitive). The latter of those is the only one that can conceivably be solved. Government putting the emphasis on Facebook to do that despite it currently being an impossible task is just a scam to push through more anti-privacy legislation. No-one is going to find out who is looking to commit a crime until computers can understand the meaning of an entire sentence, accounting for sarcasm and pinpoint intent. They can then do that on an unimaginable scale.
  16. Remember when I was that age and me and some mates were walking and one of the lads had a bb gun. Someone reported it and the police helicopter was brought out and a couple police cars pulled up and we were apprehended. We were as confused as hell when they arrived and started shouting. We were looking around thinking they were here for someone else. Obviously treated seriously anywhere when someone of any age might be holding a gun. Glad I wasn't shot in the head as I stood there with a dumbfounded look on my face though.
  17. Skynet by 2020s? Perhaps the most disturbing dimension among the NDU study’s insights is the prospect that within the next decade, artificial intelligence (AI) research could spawn “strong AI”—or at least a form of “weak AI” that approximates some features of the former. Strong AI should be able to simulate a wide range of human cognition, and include traits like consciousness, sentience, sapience, or self-awareness. Many now believe, Kadtke and Wells, observe, that “strong AI may be achieved sometime in the 2020s.” They report that a range of technological advances support “this optimism,” especially that “computer processors will likely reach the computational power of the human brain sometime in the 2020s”—Intel aims to reach this milestone by 2018. Other relevant advances in development include “full brain simulations, neuro-synaptic computers, and general knowledge representation systems such as IBM Watson.” As the costs of robotics manufacturing and cloud computing plummet, the NDU paper says, AI advances could even allow for automation of high-level military functions like “problem solving,” “strategy development” or “operational planning.” https://www.mintpressnews.com/pentagons-skynet-automate-war/199249/
  18. Of course they can perform automated searches. But that's not the intelligent investigative work that stops attacks. They're looking for a needle in a haystack, looking at the needle after its identified itself and then claiming the way to improve the search in future is to add more hay. Artificial intelligence is the next step in data filtering. Getting a computer to join the dots.
