I was thinking more about Ashley/Charnley teaching the fans who demanded Pardew's removal a lesson to make them look daft. There were very few managers that could do worse than Pardew, and they've conspired to come up with one. Everyone who cautioned protesters has been proved right in their fears of ineptitude in bringing in a replacement. Comparison of him and Haidara... Haidara did plenty well defensively. Despite failing with 3 clearances in dangerous areas and his only aerial duel in the area, he did perform 4 succesful clearances and won 3 tackles at the back. Going forward he offered nothing. He has barely any passes in the final third and his one ball into the box was a failed one. Janmaat hardly got a thing right defensively. One clearance, one tackle, one interception. Otherwise he fouled in a dangerous area and failed in some clearances and most of his aerial duels across the park. His failed passes are mostly in the opposition half though (unlike Haidara) and none are exactly sideways, only one is close to sideways. At least he succeeded with a couple of passes into the box too.

My point wasn't to credit stoke though, should be ashamed we couldn't dominate the possession at home to them.

I still like to distinguish between Ashley and Newcastle united. Ashley has never had £60m pa from TV rights to lose. The club has, but it's stayed in the club. Like the Carroll money and the Cabaye money. Ashley has been repaid £11m of his loan after 7 years. And the club still hasn't reported a profit before player trading for him to take any more. He's a twat for expecting the £29m loan repaid as soon as possible rather than converting it to equity and letting the club move onwards and upwards. He's a cunt for limiting the retail revenues by gifting that side of the business to sports direct. He's a cunt for limiting commercial income by giving his shops free advertising (though still not on shirts as it would be too costly for the club for it to be free - credit due?) He's NOT a cunt sitting in piles of money that get topped up after every transfer window. Having repaid the £29m loan (in the next accounts probably) I hope and expect that the club will be allowed to invest what it earns, despite the limitations SD place on that. It would follow the example of last summer when we spent more than the previous 5 summers combined, without leading to any losses.
