The Secret Diary of Lee Ryder (aged 44 and a half)
Happy Face replied to Craig's topic in Newcastle Forum
Also more of a pain to look at than just going to each writers page and getting their last 10 stories unfortunately. Had a laugh with Douglas getting defensive about his last 10 and searching through his archive for negative stuff. I only did it after looking at Ryders page though and every story is about a kid coming through, how well Carver is doing or an old player. For his thread I thought it would suffice to compare him to cameron -

She's nae Henry Hill that's for sure. Can't remember if I mentioned Tims Vermeer in the film thread, but it's an excellent film that says something about the nature of art. Tim had never picked up a brush in his life and his first attempt at painting is to reproduce a vermeer identically and he pulls it off incredibly well. It shows that Vermeer himself wasn't necessarily a talented "drawer", despite causing a seismic shift in styles across the artworld with his paintings which were miles ahead of anyone else at that time in terms of how they recreated what the eye could see. Tim ends up impressing Hockney with his painting, which he did every brushstroke on himself. There's nothing artistic in what Tim does whatsoever though. It's a magic trick and not an original one. Vermeer performed the magic trick 400 years ago, but he was artistic, because he was the first to do it. He was original. Which I suppose is all that great art has to be.

Your tatse is your own and I wouldn't shoot you for it, whatever you prefer to BB.. or BB. I didn't think your point was one of taste when you laughed at Breaking Bad. -
Maybe if they get up this way, I like the album. Been listening to the new modest mouse, Kendrick Lamaar, Ghostface Killah & BBNG, Hot Chip, Drenge and Public Service Broadcasting singles. Looking forward to all those albums.

Wonder if he looks at Mourinho complaining wabout 'quiet' Chelsea fans and thinks he'll follow that lead, completely oblivious to the years of success Chelsea fans have enjoyed and genuinely incapable of considering what he's serving up to newcastle fans. That or he's a cunt.

What does high brow mean? Is Homeland high brow for dealing with international politics? Is it bollocks, it's 24 with less plausibility. Is Scandal? Nah, It's Greys anatomy with fucking in the oval office rather than the operating theatre. Breaking Bad is thematically rich in the same way The Sopranos is. Massive care and attention is paid to recurring motifs, ideas, colours and clothes even. Characters don't change to fit the storylines, there's a consistent line of motivation and writers are at pains to stay true to character and the reality of the show. I've never seen suits, but I've never seen anyone write as enthusiastically and in as much detail as this about it either... http://entertainment.time.com/2013/09/24/hidden-breaking-bad-the-stuff-you-may-have-missed/ So I assume it doesn't have the depth of BB. -

We went on Saturday lunch and thought it was very reasonable. 2 of us got starters and mains for £35 so I don't think it flatters itself too much. The (raw) apple and onion deepfried in batter was odd, but I could eat spoons of the sweet mayo that comes with it. I went in starving and left half of my main. A mountain of briskett and the few bits of fat were melting off it lush. -
