1. I'm a sheep for listening to a mates recommendation or using Metacritic.com? If an album is universally liked, chances are, I'll like it too. Not always the case but if I didn't trust other peoples opinions I'd never buy any new music and would still be listening exclusively to Led Zepellin. I don't like The Killers, Maroon 5, Razorlight, 2pac, The Bravery, Oasis or the Who, but I accept that people with good musical taste like them and it's just my personal taste that precludes me from buying their albums. On the other hand, the only people I've met that like Babyshambles or James Blunt were arseholes.
2. Empty Cans is my favourite Streets track. It might be a bit gimicky rewinding the track and starting again halfway through but it's really effective and transforms what you thought was a depressing album about British youth into an uplifting and moral one. I agree with you on James Blunt. The lines "I saw your face, in a crowded place" just grate on me as being the worst I've ever heard from a 'professional'. Emabarrasingly banal. “Blunt language cannot hide a banal conception” (James Wolcott).
3. The sound of my own heart pounding like a jack-hammer in overexcited anticipation of the Fulham game in two weeks. It's good to return to the way I normally feel at the start of a season, rather than the resigned indifference I felt leading up to the Arsenal game.
4. but will we know for definite today that he has actually signed, and what stupid clauses he's been allowed in his contract? 22797 No-one will be privvy to the more delicate areas of his contract. 22844 I'd guess it won't just be the player with clauses to suit him. I'd like to know how much of the fee will be paid in installments based on number of performances and goals. And was there some sort of offsetting of Woodgate payments or an agreement that we'll get first option on Robinho?
5. Now that is "music" that every single person should be united in saying its absolute shite. Lyrics a child could write, can't rap at all, can't sing, uses an annoying cockney accent despite not being a cockney and yet has some critics wanking over him as if he's a combination of eminem and shakespeare!!! 22758 I think the fact he comes from Brum, yet comes over all 'apples and pears' is the most annoying thing about him. By no means the only annoying thing, obviously 22763 Yeah, if somebody happens to have an annoying cockney accent by birth thats not their fault, to choose to put one on because you think it makes you sound hard, trendy and will sell more records is embarassing. 22799 As I said in the first place, I'll listen to just about anything and don't mind The Streets at all. I didn't really like the first album but the second one is a quality British album. A lot of critics creamed themselves over the concept (which is brilliantly realised) and ignored the fact there are a few weak tracks. The fact that he's a mockney doesn't bother me at all. I tend to think he's playing a character like Ziggy Stardust or Johnny Vegas. I don't believe that Ice T goes about killing cops or that Eminem killed his wife. It's all music to fit an image. Hell, what right have The rolling stones got to play the blues?
6. 3-5-2 Given Taylor Boumsong Bramble Bowyer Parker Emre Dyer Luque Shearer Owen Get back to winning games 4-3.
7. Don't say it too loud though 22655 Does it bollocks. Blame Shepherd that the club has become such a poor proposition that even when we're paying vastly over the odds, with a load of (alleged) get out clauses it's still considered ridiculous for top players to consider us. Pleased we've got him but had the club been run properly (on and off the pitch) he could have been sewn up before the start of the season and we'd have more than 1 point by now. GET IN. We've got Owen!
8. I time the first hint of pessimism at 51 minutes after the news broke. We almost had an hour of happiness before a 'realist' pointed out the facts.
9. Waheeeeeeeeeeey! Watch out mackems, my confidence is restored that a sound thrashing is coming your way.
10. Because Papa was saying that anything produced on a computer can't be as good as anything produced with a chunk of wood or metal that's strummed, blown or bashed.
11. Because people like it= a matter of taste. I am sane, sober (usually) and have a fairly sizeable pile of CDs (such as the aforementioned Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim's earlier albums, Air and a good few Ministry of Sound albums before they started filling them with every chart release they could find). I also have about 100-150 12" house released, some on the prog side of that genre, but mainly French and funk-inspired house. I'm also a fan of the soul styles and hammond-and-bass-driven funk that proved as an inspiration for the earliest forms of house and remained close every since. Now, you've met me enough to know I am not a pill-popping 'propa radgie'. So unless I am, your supposition must be incorrect. 22071 Thats what i actually mean, you're not the first intelligent, sane, sober person who i've met that listens to this stuff. I don't mean there isn't any sane people listening to it, the thing i don't get is why there is! Its like somebody intelligent who seems to have a good taste in/knowledge of various things turn and tell you they love waching Eastenders or something, it just doesn't fit with the impression you had of them. Obviously its because of quite how much i despise this music that i am usually shocked that people like it when i think they wouldn't. 22074 I don't think anyone musically intelligent can say that Kraftwerk, Bjork, Massive Attack and New Order are shit. I think you'd have to be completely ignorant. Shit Dance is far more widespread than shit Rock. But I think good dance is far more difficult to produce than good rock.
12. Fantastic guitar it is too. Quite a difficult stretch.
13. Depends who's being sampled I guess. AC/DC can refuse the Beastie Boys permission to sample one of their songs because they've sold enough records already but Bessie Smith (or her offspring) make more from a Moby remix than they ever got from original album sales. So who's doing who the favour? I'd rather hear a DJ remix of a good song than Will Young sing an old one exactly the same as it was first released, and he earns far more than a remix DJ. I think The Chemical Brothers use relatively few samples on their later albums.
14. People were similarly disgusted when Bob Dylan plugged his guitar in, had to be acoustic apparently. 21952 Indeed they were, but that was people being incredibly snobby or up themselves that you couldn't use electric instruments, missing the fact that you can be just as creative and skillfull on either electric or acoustic. 21967 Ah, so you have no problem with people using computers to make music, just sampling other music. Sorry I misunderstood. It pisses me off that Jason Nivens puts a beat under a Run DMC track and gets the biggest hit of the year. Then again, it pissed Jason Nivens off that he hardly made a penny and Run DMC increased sales massively off the back of his remix.

16. I honestly don't think there is a genre I can't find something I like from. I always thought dance was shit but after hearing accesible albums from Chemical Brothers, Fatboy slim, Moby, Daft Punk and Air I wouldn't come out with the blanket statement that it's all shit. Though the dance peak has passed, there's still some stuff I can listen to sober, LCD soundsystem and Mylo for example. I even listened to some Drum n Bass the other day and liked it (Pendulum). Love an inventive mix too, someone who makes money playing someone elses records is usually slagged off but mixing Snoop Dogg and Dolly Parton provides highly entertaining results. Jazz too. Bunch of arseholes playing random notes for half an hour at a time I thought. But Benny Goodman and Jimmy Smith are great. Still can't see why people like Miles Davis though. Never liked Hip-Hop/Rap either . Only been the last 5 or so years that I've realised that the shite that's in the charts is the lowest barrel scrapings. I was definately more eletist in my tastes as a youngster, but I think if you refuse to listen to dance (or whatever) because you think people that do are twats, you're cutting off your nose to spite your face. Open up to all GOOD music and it will only make you a better musician. Stick to what you know you like and you'll learn nothing.
17. Definately, but he's taking more than he's giving these days which will only damage his reputation. He would have retired if Souness hadn't begged him to hang on, and his body language suggests he's regretted it since the moment it was announced.
18. I still question spending 18 million on one player when our squad is still lacking quite a few players. 21830 aye. 21832 "There's no pleasing some people" "That's just what Jesus said sir!"
19. They've all been inserted/lodged into an orifice.
20. She was also 'Bev' in a shit car loan advert. 21761 "Bev?"
21. Camille Haven't got a clue what she's on about. Bloody good though.
22. Not sure how "meaningful" it is. They try politics but it's all very cod. They rock like no other though.
23. Always a guarantee of quality 21654 Yes, sales isn't relevant in which is best! Though in this case the one that's sold the most is the best of the two. 21659 I never really liked Ten at the time but I listen to it far more than Nevermind now.
24. Well I've not seen the Machinists so thanks for the massive indication to what the ending is going to be. Crash I agree with everyone else and some. Brilliant film. Spent the last half hour crying my eyes out (yes I'm a 25 year old male, what of it?). I thought it was going to be too preachy for me to stomach but not only did it moralise to the shits, it also warns against the holier than thou attitude of some people. Easily the best film I've seen in 2005. Danny The Dog I think this is called "Unleashed" over here. I was going to say it was good, but having also seen Crash today I wouldn't advise anyone to watch this instead. It's like Pinochio/Oliver Twist/Pit Fighter. Silly fun.
