Quite honestly, yes. Chelsea at times played pretty gash last season but still managed to thrash out results. What do we remember more, those 'lucky' wins or the fact they won the title? The performance IS important, but it comes a definite second to the result IMO. The Keegan thing is not a cliche, it's fact. So many games we dominated and lost 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 etc.... I'd much rather we'd played shit, got a lucky 1-0 win and ended up winning the league. I quite agree.... 53457[/snapback] Comparing us to Chelsea is shite. Chelsea have an occassional off day and still scrape a win. Most of the time they sweep aside the opposition with ease, and play some great football with it. Newcastle are playing and have played consistently poor football under Souness. For him to say "Those are the types of games we weren't winning" is crap, because we weren't winning most types of game. When it's the occasional bad game that we scrape and the majority we dominate, then I'll be more positive.

Having played 1 more though The problem is too many people are easily satisfied. No-one would be happier getting beat 3 nowt, but the fact is we do get thumped off average or better teams (Arsenal, Bolton, Man U, Malaga!) and I've seen nothing to suggest we won't in future.

I'm not moping. I've enjoyed the last few wins as much as anyone. When I've gone to the hop of an evening I've been dancing a happier jig than I have in a long while. I do this more in the spirit of enjoying it while I can, rather than deluding myself that the Champions league is beckoning though. Anyone who imagines for a second that Souness is getting us into the champions league is deluding themselves.

All this optimism is boiling my piss. People say we're winning and that's what counts, but who are we beating? The Mackems, West Brom, Birmingham, Grimsby. The only team above us that we've beaten is Man City (and they're going to drop like lead balloons). It's the same as last season when we went on a mid season 'run' but the quality of opposition was poor. The cup run(s) kept Souness in his job and we never beat anyone of quality in those. Get a grip people, don't cling to the scraps being thrown at you, with the players we have it should be a joy to watch the Toon shitting on the majority of teams, but Souness is incapable of organising it. It goes without saying it would be daft to sack him now, but I pray that Freddie the Hutt is looking at his options for next year.

Not sure about having Parker as top man. I thought he was quiet. On the day Ameobi imprerssed me most. He was only on half an hour but he worked hard. kudos.
