I rang telwest to cancel me phone and they had a recorded message apologising that no-one in the north west could order pay per view events. Quite an inopportune time to knack like. Made me chuckle thinking of all those mancs who won't be to watch it

That's bollocks though isn't it. All his obituaries and all the other articles I have read have made much of his alcoholism, womanising and jail time. The only gushing praise to avoid that has been on Gillette Soccer Saturday today. Compare it to Princess Di who had no discernable talent whatsoever, was a bit mental, a bit of a tart and has a produced an heir to the throne whose surname should be Hewitt. You couldn't say a word against the princess of hearts or any of that shite.

my favourite ever joke, not 'intellectual' but educational (of sorts) Did you hear about the constipated mathematician? He worked it out with a pencil?

I did Maths and Stats at Newcastle University, turned up at the wrong interview and have ended up as a cool:gen programmer. I'd be happy if I was on the industry standard, but as the youngest person in my office I'm woefully underpaid. Looking to go contracting now. If you haven't got a definite idea of what you want to do in future and don't need a specific discipline, a maths degree is as good as any other (and probably better than any of these arty farty media studies shite things). All employees want to know is that you can apply yourself to something or other.

I was waiting for that like. He was good though, it's not like he was constantly picking the ball up and throwing it at goal.

I don't like the idea of the FA insisting everyone has a minutes silence in any circumstances, like with that Bigley, I mean it's not nice what happened and that, but loads of people have died over there and get no minutes silence. Should be up to each club and their community when they have one. I'd guess most Newcastle fans would agree that Best deserves it. Not even because he was from these shores but because he was one of the greatest examples of what we love. We should also have a bit quiet when Maradonna decides he's finished, and Pele. People who are universally admired.

'Pink Meat Pie' That's up there with 'butchers bin'

Nice to see NUFC.COm as cynical as ever... Whatever he's done off the pitch he's a football legend. Cloughie got a minutes silence didn't he?
-
Let's not forget his other great roles in Happy days, The Next Karate Kid and Karate Dog. RIP Wonder if the coffin will have wax on.

Most influential band since U2 tbh.

The present for those used to the finer things

If I had a spare 30 grand I wouldn't be spending it on being confined to 4 square metres for hours on end and looking at a wreck. I do that every night with our lass. -
Just got this forwarded. Made me laugh anyway.

I quite like the Yarbirds and was suprised to hear they turned into The Birds. Thing is you've had me looking for Birds CDs and I can't find any that includes a previous member of the Yardbirds. Can you suggest an album? Thanks. You seem to think I'm arguing that U2 are the most influencial band ever and no other group has been as influential. U2 haven't done half what the Beach Boys have in terms of originality. I think we're both wrong on the Paul Weller thing (which is what you said originally, not The Jam) he was probably most influential in the 90's (Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene etc.). I don't think it applies to Mariah Carey, no. If I hear a Mariah Carey song I haven't got a clue if it's her, Christina Aguelera, Britney Spears or whichever other pop poppet is flavour of the month. When I hear a U2 song I know it's them, without hearing Bono open his mouth. U2 have a sound that's instantly recognisable. The reactive argument was just what I might feel after hearing a U2 song, I also recognise though that a lot of people would love it and try to incorporate that sound. Why must everything be so black and white? The Beatles are the pacesetters and they influenced EVERYONE since with their stunning originality. U2 are pisspot boyband who've got lucky and released nowt but derivative shit. Neither of these statements are true and if you think they are it's a very blinkered attitude. There's no need to get shirty about it either boys. I think it's a bit harsh (Sammy) to call NJS' view simplistic when it seems to be your stance that musical originality started somewhere around 1963 (I guess that's not your opinion, but your fixation on the Stones, Beach Boys, Beatles, Doors etc as the be all and end all puts it accross this way). Also, just because someone mentions Brecht I don't see why it makes them a wanker.

Tyne Tees I think. 60341 damn it! 60348 You dont get Tyne Tees in Torquay? 60357 Not that i know of!! 60375 You can get it if you piss about with your Sky settings. I'm afraid that's as technical an explanation as I can give you though. 60378 Gemmil, thats a good idea, i know how to add/search channels on my sky digital. I think i need the co-ordinates for it, but i can probably search that online. I presume Tyne Tees is your ITV station? I can get bbc North east. 60390 I don't think you have to mess with any settings all regional variations are up around channell 600 odd aren't they?
