No, that's the point, he wasn't

Is it not a serious accusation to claim in print that Newcastle offered McClaren the job without the permission of Derby too?
-
Fucking hell. Clearly Garde wouldn't work under the conditions nufc require and has been more professional about the disjoint in ambition than the club have.

Points Per Game over the last 55 seasons. 2 entries in the top 30 for Ashley. 4 entries in the bottom 10.

Yes, works closely with his dad.

This is what Charnley said about what they want from a new man in January. It's clear that their priority is to have a man that will work with what he's given. Not involved in any decision on who to buy, not to complain if they sell without replacements. They have to know their place and bite their tongue in interviews when the squad is left wanting. They have to "trust" that they'll get the player they need in the long run, despite the club desparately needing strikers but only spending a combined £24m in 8 years on all the strikers bought, less than Everton spent on Lukaku alone in one window. The talk of a philosophy is at odds with that entirely and only pays lip service to the notion of a philosophy. If it was really important that the club looked for players that fit the managers philosophy, then the stuff above could not be the priority. It suggests that the recruitment policy will change with the manager, which is clearly a lie given the priority given in their 'wants' to working under the existing model and not complaining. It suggests that if Sam Allardyce was appointed and followed by Guardiola, then the entire squad would be rebuilt to reflect the style of each manager. The whole point of the structure in place is that Alan Carr dictates what represents a bargain and whichever coach comes in has to make do with the players he has to accomodate the style he wants to play. That's why they don't really care if it's Vieira, Garde, Laudrup, McClaren or Carver. The philosiphy doesn't matter. It would be nice if one of the better managers in that list went along with the conditions and the fans could be won over with a positive change, but that's not the most important thing. If no-one else will, then Carver will always do as he's told.

The perverse thing about all of the candidates doing the rounds in the press is the differences between them all. Either nobody outside of the club knows what sort of manager the club wants, what the vision is for Newcastle, or there is no vision and the club are just looking for somebody cheap who will work with the existing coaching staff. We've apparently looked at British managers aged 50 and over that failed elsewhere (Moyes, McClaren, Hoddle, Carver) who have a range of Premier league experience from barely any to over a decade. But also interested in a 50+ continental coach with Premier League experience (Laudrup). There's continental up and comers who've shown talent in other leagues (Garde, Tuchel, Galtier, De Boer, Gourvennec) and young lower league managers without any top flight experience whatsoever (Karanka, Howe). There's people who have never managed before with a range of coaching experience from little to decades (Vieira, Clement). Even if this was all paper talk over the past 6 months, we're now told we're interviewing 4 people. Vieira, a young foreign coach with no first team management experience whatsoever, a prospect rather than a "safe pair of hands". But also McClaren, who would become one of the oldest managers in the league, with a wealth of experience but none of the excitement about what potential he could have. Laudrup and Garde only add to the differences between candidates in terms of the direction Newcastle would take as a result, before you even look at the variation in playing styles. Where I would have been excited about some of these appointments in January, or even sooner after the season ended, the longer the charade goes on and the rudderlessness of the club is exposed the more despondent I get over the impact ANYONE will have when appointed. The club is, and will remain, a shambles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KctO7S62ZfY Sorry if a repost. I laughed though. Always good when someone makes child molestation funny.

Aye, but we've been linked with plenty good managers and supposed to have them on shortlists. Means no more at West ham than it does here. I've only laughed at the Viera link, and he's not even shown any ability anywhere, just a prospect that would command respect and has a good little black book.

http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20150530/coloccini-hails-departing-gutierrez_2281670_4755178 I guess the inference being Colo knew Jonas was going before Jonas has expressed surprise after being told over the phone last night.

It has to match his existing contract to qualify for compensation
-
If there was no chance at all the club would have thanked carver for his efforts and stated they're looking elsewhere. Too many season ticket sales depend on whether he's the new man for them to delay that announcement. Still likely to go back to coaching staff, but clearly not certain.

How's it risking his job if it's Ashley's decision?
-
Carver got 13 points from 19 games. Pardew got 16 points from 19 to finish last season. To argue that Ashley wouldn't leave anyone that shit in charge is to ignore evidence to the contrary.

Mike Ashley: I'm not selling until we win something (or finish top 4)

Ashley spends £1Billion of his fortune to get us into the same champions league group as Rangers and rub their ungrateful noses in defeat. -
Carver and Hughton and Beardsley and Charnley and the mission statement from NUFC that said... "The Board will concentrate on Newcastle United's stability by promoting from within where possible."
-
As someone who made this point in January I'm less inclined to be so confident in the view now. Could be literally anyone, from Carver to Steve Stone to Laudrup. We've got no clue.

It wasn't just that he sacked Robson was it, it's that he undermined him in transfers like Shearer (not sold when Robson wanted), Kluivert (bought when not wanted never wanted) and Speed (sold when Robson wanted him kept) wasn't it? But criticism of Shepherd is usually financial and although taking a shitload of cash from the club, he reined in £20m and £15m losses in the early 2000s to be break even for 3 years in a row up to 2005. Most of that was thanks to Robson though, you could never see us hitting the champions league in the near future by 2006, and without it the £30m losses in the couple of years before selling were going to be totally unsustainable.

It was a play to push season tickets next year. Renewal deadline on Friday.

He's been responding in Twitter. We wanted Carver because he's a Geordie & He knows frustration as an arsenal fan. Tit
