  1. That's what final episodes tend to do though, say goodbye to the characters sentimentally (apart from Seinfeld of course, which was typically bitter to the end). I thought it was very real myself, certainly it never went to Office style lengths to tie up everyone's lives nice and neatly. It was played as just another event in the Royle life.
  2. In the first scene break I thought "that doesn't work", but as the subject matter of the show became clearer the choice of Walk The Line became more and more perfect. Not only because Johnny Cash and June Carter recently died in their old age. They're characters and people probably like everyone one of us who would do anything for their family. Nanna doesn't get stuck in a home, Barbara walks the line for her. Jim can't stand having her there, but he walks the line for Barbara. Antony for his dad, Dave for his wife and kid, we're even told about Nanna walking the line for Barbara. Caroline Ahern always said no more, so maybe in making this she's walking the line for all the characters. They were depicting the final weeks of Nanna's life, cramming it all into real time as normal wouldn't have had an ounce of the realism or the poignancy IMO.
  3. As bad as the other 2? I've heard even worse. This is just a throwaway comment to piss me off. Grow the fuck up. It really wasn't. Im my opinion annoys you, well that's just a bonus.
  4. I bost after about half an hour in and never stopped till a few minutes after it finished. I'm soft as shite like that. And my nanna died (realtively) recently. Nanna and/or Barbara should win every award going. Best hour of tv I've seen in a long time.
  5. That was absoloutley brilliant.

  7. ooohh... love that film! (got the dvd though). I need to get into Film4 never remember to look what's on now that it's free. I try to keep people informed here http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/...c,27015.60.html
  8. That's not all you said. And they did. If you knew what happened, you could comment.
  9. Gemmil is spot on. Only a cheeky twat would slag off someone when they're doing no more themselves. Having said that, the booing pissed me off. I made a point of clapping a bit longer and louder because we did everything but score and booing was OTT IMO.
  10. "Lebowski" One of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time.
  11. His reaction is priceless. 'LOVELY SMILE'! Not that one, but I laughed... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDGQ7LreJOY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WIy3E1bYtE EDIT: this is the one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ7Ym-W3NwM
  12. My brother's lass is fat. My dad was telling a story about another fat woman. He get's to the point where he says "....and this silly fat cow..." and thinks to himself that it might have caused offence. Not that bad to be honest, statement of fact. Best course of action - carry on the story as if no-one was bothered. However, it became the most uncomfortable moment EVER when he didn't continue with his story, but began a rambling and heartfelt apology to my brothers lass, about there being nowt wrong with fat people and he knows how hard she tries with the diet etc. He kept asking her if she was ok for half an hour afterwards. SHE WOULD BE IF YOU'D JUST FUCKING LEAVE IT!
  13. I'd like to make it understood, I realise it's evident that the envelope contains the full story (which she passed on to Whalberg) in some form. I just wonder why it wasn't clarified.
  14. I think that was backups to all the tapes and evidence he had against Damon's character. There's a brief mention towards the end of the film but nothing more. I'm talking about the long, slim, brown envelope, he gave to her in person before he went into hiding for a bit. Not the white square envelope containing a vcd he posts to MAAATTT DAAAMON that she opens anyway. He sent the white envelope to Sullivan (Damon), not the bird, who he gave the brown envelope to. He didn't know the bird and Sullivan were together. hmmm, seems odd to me, it being a slim flat envelope he gave her, not the right size for a cd or a tape. If he was doing copies wouldn't he package them all the same? Whatever.

  16. Is anyone going to take my pendant from me?
  17. The Departed Very enjoyable, easily better than Infernal Affairs I thought. Jack is class but I thought Martin Sheen was the best of the lot. He was the only one who didn't try and play the cool hard man that'll get remembered like Joe Pesci, he played it more like Ronnie Corbett, for that he stood out above everyone. One question, what was with the brown envelope? Thankyou for Smoking A very witty film, I thoroughly enjoyed. I was worried with 20 minutes to go that it might be turning into a romp, but I think it walked that line just about right. Surprised it hasn't got more praise than it seems to have. Rob Lowe is especially funny. The New World Seemed to be cut to ribbons, especially for the first 45 minutes or so, I'd love to see the full 150 minute version because what there is in the DVD released is gorgeous. Not Malick's best like, but it reminded me a great deal of Aguirre, which is never a bad thing. Persona A freaky, freaky film. I don't know what was going on, I don't know what it is trying to say, but it looked great, and her orgy story was very erotic. 3 Iron Slow, but still good.
  18. We'd have had a top manager if someone didn't undermine the sterling work that was done to attract him.
  19. You aren't thick. Stephen Gaghan just can't writew a script to save his life.
  20. shouldn't really laugh but.... http://www.newcastle-online.net/ Well done to whoever's responsible.
