4 stars The times only gave it 3 though. Above average then. But then Pulp got great reiews and I never liked them. Don't think I'll bother.

It was funny when Peter Kay took the piss on Jonathan Ross... And as if by magic... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76rRuk8KyDc "I didn't want to sit next to you and the cast of Man and t' golden gun"

I've not watched much of the last series' (is that proper apostrophe use?) of it but I'm on 2 out of 2 for this series. The camp footage is generally shit but Ant and Dec are very funny lads.

My stats come from here. They still have him on 20/34 but it's 20/35 after Saturdays result. EDIT: "The NUFC Premier League Managers win percentages league" means the overall (league and cup) record of all managers who've been in charge in the Premier league. EDIT: Though Roeder also has the best win percentage of any Newcastle manager in history. EDIT: Not including Carver of course.

Shepherd will probably jump on Iain Dowie now he's available.

Err, it's not like imo. It's two draws better from two more games and it will almost certainly compare even less favourably after this Saturday. It can't compare less favourably after this Saturday. 3 points from 27 (= 1 from 9 = 2 from 18) is still twice as good as 1 from 18. Even if you only base it on each managers last 6 games, Roeder still has 2 points out of 18. And will still have after the weekend. It might be like saying a solid is better than diahorrea, pointless when they're both shit, but Souness had had a worse recent run however you look at it. He can't win*. Everyone baying for Roeder's blood will whine like there's no tomorrow when a shit manager comes in as replacement. They don't seem to be forthcoming when it comes to suggesting someone else though, but will continue to whine. *Unless he fucks off altogether himself.

Better than twice as good though.
-
Am I the only one who doesn't get the point? 3 points out of 24 is like 1 from 8. Far better than Souness and his 1 in 18.

Aye, loads of his films are better. But Rope had a massive impression on me at the time. If I saw it for the first time now I wouldn't love it as much as I did and subsequently do. -
Isn't it a question of setting standards the same across the board? Some prisons have drug rehabilation schemes in place that minimise individual suffering. Others don't. Why should certain criminals get better treatment than others?

That's been my favourite Hitchcock since I was about 12. Ever since then I've been a sucker for anything that avoids cuts. -
He also made the best oscar acceptance speech... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCI3jrI2Cg4

Rated R for some violence and sexual content involving minors

If you like a slow burn thriller Hard Candy has just come out on DVD and is well worth it. Central Station A cynical old bird who never got married and has gone to the dogs escorts a young lad on a road trip across Brazil to find his only surviving parent. Lots of lessons are learned, laughs are had and tears are shed. Worth a look. -

The Apartment I always thought I hated Shirley Maclaine, even though I'd never seen her in anything, now I realise I love her to bits. It was a fantastic film altogether, but most especially scriptwise. Pom Poko The Raccoons in the countryside surrounding Tokyo fight back against the humans destroying their habitat by shape-shifting. Everything you expect from studio Ghibli. Lovely satuff. -
Someone mentioned they never check what's on, so as a public service to you.... SUNDAY 12TH NOVEMBER (Today) POM POKO 3pm Film4 I've not seen it, but it's Studio Ghibli who did Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS 8pm Channel 4 No explanation requiered. Best of the 3. AMELIE 9pm Film4 I realise Planet Earth is on at the same time, but that's repeated through the week and is available on replay. If you have Film4+1 you could watch this at 10, after Planet Earth. It's in my personal favourite 3 films ever, a beautiful thing. MONDAY 13TH NOVEMBER THE ARISTOCRATS 11.20pm Film4 Documentary about the filthiest joke that all comedians know and love. Basically an hour and a half of different comedians telling that same joke. You wouldn't think it could be as funny after 80 minutes as it is in the first ten, but it's hilarious throughout. The South Park Section posted on here ages ago is the highlight. TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER WARGAMES 6.50pm Film4 Ferris Beuller starts world war 3 with a spectrum and no nternet. classic kiddy entertainment. AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY 9pm Film4 Dr Evil might be the single funniest comic film character ever. Which balances out Austin Powers who's possibly the least funny. Worth putting up with one to enjoy the other though. MONSTER 10pm Channel 4 I'd rather watch the Nick Broomfield documentaries about her, but it's a canny sad film. SCUM 10pm ITV4 "Right Banks, you bastard! I'm the daddy now, next time, I'll fucking kill ya!" "Vegetarians? I've shit 'em... " "Up your fucking borstal! " "MECCA? ARCHER?" MALLRATS 10.45pm Film4 People seem to love to bits. It was alright I suppose. THIEF 11.55pm BBC1 Not seen it personally, but I'm tempted to tape it. James Caan is supposed to be at his best, as is Michael Mann. I keep hearing loads of films compared to it like it's the be all and end all of crime thrillers. NATURAL BORN KILLERS 12midnight Channel 4 I'd imagine we've all seen this. Brilliant stuff. WEDNESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER RITA, SUE AND BOB TOO 11.40pm Film4 Classic. THURSDAY 16TH NOVEMBER BATTLE ROYALE II: REQUIEM 11.15pm Channel 4 It's shit like. I only mention it in case the completists among you who enjoyed the first one want to watch it so you can say you have. Lot's of Anti-american toss that goes nowhere in particular with none of the inspiration of the first one. FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 633 SQUADRON 1.35pm BBC2 BLESS THIS HOUSE 1.50pm Channel 4 SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL 9pm ITV3 ALIEN 3 10pm five THE DEER HUNTER 11.05pm Film4

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Couldn’t wait for the DVD so I watched that very shit quality pirate stream online. Even though I couldn’t read any of the sub-titles and would have missed half of the jokes it might still be as funny as any film I’ve ever seen. I was thinking what I’ve ever laughed more at. Probably only South Park and The Life of Brian. Whether the shock laughs in Borat continue to amuse me years down the line like they do in the others mentioned, I’ll have to wait and see, but the hotel wrestle where I was convulsing with laughter long before the situation got to it’s peak of breathtaking hilarity will forever be ingrained on my brain. Cars Don’t quite understand why the critics turned on this one out of all the Pixar films. It’s easily better than A Bugs Life and Monsters Inc, and I think it’s probably better than Finding Nemo too. How can you beat a kids film where cars compete for the pissed in cup (Piston Cup)? It doesn’t have the laughs throughout to make it a classic of Toy Story 1/2 or incredibles proportion but the story itself is lovely stuff, it looks brilliant and the final credits are hilarious. Considering the message (winning isn’t everything and not worth being mean to achieve) it was strange to choose Michael Schumacher for a cameo. Strangers On A Train Touch of Evil I’ve never been so freaked out as when, in Strangers On A Train, Bruno watches Guy play tennis while everyone around him is watching the whole game. Hitchcock was a genius. But not a showoff, he could show a murder reflected in the victim’s glasses which have fallen off and though it looks fantastic and fresh even now, it’s not showy, just creepy, adds to the suspense of it all. Orson Welles was a genius too, but he was always pulling out all the stops to get as much of himself on screen as possible, there’s no need for the 3 minute opening crane shot in Touch of Evil, it adds nothing but wonderment at how it was achieved and appreciation of how Welles is always trying new stuff. Hitchcock only put something in if it helped tell the story. Best Hollywood director ever. Both superb films though.
