Nowt like a "why this place is shit" thread to make this place not shit for a couple of hours. 2 pages without mention of "snobby" or "perpetual" is a bit of a shame though.

Only happened to me once. A biblical wave of diahorreah came on in the middle of a meeting just as they were doing introductions, I just bolted. Went back a good half hour later having lost a stone with cold sweats and smelling worse than Mr Trebus. No-one said owt like. Still get embarrased when I see anyone who was there though.

I don't think it needs people to start loads of shit threads just for the sake of having a new subject up, just that when you start a subject, people need to treat it as a thread they own and try to reply to any responses given. Not just post a story and bugger off. In the past I've started threads that got few responses, while others posted the same subject later and got loads of responses, I don't agree that it's a clique or a case of hounding out newbies, I think I just started a thread and fucked off, so the debate petered out because the few people that were good enough to respond got nowt back off the original poster. If your thread gets hijacked and goes off on a tangent, fair enough. Anyone who comes on without getting a feel for the place by lurking for a while, and can't accept a bit of piss taking (which everyone gives and takes) as a result, needs to look at their approach, rather than that of the regulars.

Not viewed as their best, but personally I love it to bits. Black and white noirish thriller that looks stunning. A lot of people watch Lebowski or OBWAT and don't see the humour, and this one buries it even lower, but nevertheless it is hilarious. Ed Crane, the barber who never speaks (Billy Bob Thornton) gives the performance of his life, uttering only a few words, it all come from his face. I wouldn't recommend it to Wacky or anything, but if you've got the patience for a slow burner you can't do better. Like who? Most of the people I've given a copy to, or forced to watch it (Lebowski). Never really pushed it with OBWAT since I don't love it as much. IMDB has loads of threads from people who can't fathom what's so funny, for example... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/board/nest/80061859 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/board/nest/50463716 -

Fuck me HF, I will never take your film reviews seriously again. I didn't even break a smile throughout the whole of Hot Fuzz, imo it should be re-named 'hot steaming dog shit', easily the worst film I've seen this year and about as funny as a wet fart at the pictures I never thought you did in the first place. Mind you, I'm suprised a film with car chases, swearing and violence never did it for you. I guess it missed out on the boob count. -
Not really. If it had been about Manchester I'd probably have enjoyed it, or if I didn't regularly walk past every place he visited, hadn't seen all the films and tv shows and never heard all the stories.

canny shite. Might have been ok if you weren't from round these parts. ...my uncle was at the mosque in South Shields when Muhammed Ali renewed his wedding vows.

Hot Fuzz Abso-bloody-loutley loved it. First 20 minutes didn't raise more than a smile, then Nick Frost gets involved and the chuckles start rising, then the Wicker Man parallels start coming out and I think I'm disturbing the neighbours, then the finale comes along and I giggle, like a child that's just seen it's mam pump, for a solid half hour. I thought it was meant to be to the cop movie what SOTD was to the horror, but it's just as horror inspired in itself. The cop film references are more pointed (though no less funny), and I have to say, when Danny turned I was gutted :weep: ...on to the 4 commentaries. -

KEANE 11.25pm Film4 A mentally unstable man whose daughter was abducted tries to come to terms with it. Damian Lewis is superb, even though he is hampered (particularly in the first half hour) by his characters lack of any internal monologue whatsoever. that whole section could have been done in silence, and he had the chops to pull it off, but his constant stream of expository dialogue is distracting to say the least and lets down what is otherwise an excellent film. Like The Woodsman, it might make some people uncomfortable by depicting a child abducter in an almost sympathetic light, but I think the self-doubt and anguish is more real than a pantomime child snatcher. Grim, but well worth a watch, just mute the first third. RICHARD PRYOR LIVE IN CONCERT 1.05am BBC1 A handy airing to compare with Eddie Murphy's live show that was on last week and that I was berated for preferring.

Scratch that, I've just remembered why my mam and dad got divorced.

Isn't that saying you're only a compulsive gambler if you can't afford to to lose? Can wealthy people not be compulsive gamblers? It also suggests you're compulsive only if you're no good at it. Anyone who gambles away the mortgage is obviously compulsive, but I'd say my dad's compulsive too. He bets every day of the week and is in the casino/at the course at least once a week, he often chases a big win to pay for a holiday or what not. But it doesn't cause arguments or ruin him.

The new album seems to be getting raves... http://music.guardian.co.uk/reviews/story/0,,2168387,00.html http://www.gigwise.com/contents.asp?contentid=37103 Industry hype? Maybe, but after the poor reception to the last album I wonder.
