Explain. I'd not read the James Blunt thread. I assumed this was a joke. If it's not I apologise and hope you get well soon. I'm halfway through the Blunt thread now though and I have to say it's gerld. The funniest thing is the righteous indignation of people saying you're scum for liking the blunt then recommending Jack Johnson or Newton Faulkner.

Owen Called Up to England For Match V Russia
Happy Face replied to wykikitoon's topic in Newcastle Forum
Allardyce can't stop Owen playing for England if he isn't injured. And by putting him on yesterday, he showed he was available for selection. He's said he encourages it to get Owen up to "match fitness" for Newcastle, but if he's not "match fit" why's he playing a match? Daft term tbh. -
Owen Called Up to England For Match V Russia
Happy Face replied to wykikitoon's topic in Newcastle Forum
I've been critical of Englands Michael Owen when he's not been playing for us, but for England, but the negativity towards him when he was on the pitch went a bit far yesterday. Nowt that he would have heard or anything, just one off comments about him not chasing a ball (that was going nowhere) or not jumping into a 50-50. More and more he's becoming a hate figure. If he DOES get injured either playing for England or soon after, you'd have to say it'll be the final straw for a lot of fans who'll never accept him. I'm starting to blame Allardyce for it more than England Michael Owen though, he should be protecting his best player, and if Englands Michael Owen is dictating when he can play either locally or internationally then something is rotten in Denmark. -

from .com... The bold bit is true, just a shame that it's nothing to do with NUFC what England decide to do with him either. -

Tekkonkinkreet Mint. What self respecting Geordie wouldn't want to watch a film whose main characters are called Black and White. -

I can't really comment on a lot of what's on, but there's loads I want to see. SATURDAY 6TH OCTOBER THE KING AND I 4.10pm ITV3 Just started. Lavish musical. I've not seen it, but want to. I'll wait till a time when I can catch the start. WHERE EAGLES DARE 5.10pm five Boys film. No women allowed to watch. I'm led to believe. PASSPORT TO PIMLICO 7.40pm BBC4 Ealing comedy I've not seen. If it's half as good as the man in the White Suit, The Ladykillers, Kind Hearts and Coronets etc. then it'll be class. FLASH GORDON 7.45pm ITV4 Saviour of the universe. I've never seen it, but it looks as camp as a nine bob note. SLEEPY HOLLOW 9.05pm Channel 4 I don't love it, but lots of people do, and it's far preferable to... THE MUMMY 9.45pm ITV2 Horse shit. CRASH 11pm Five US The David Cronenberg one. I've not seen this one either but I don't think I've seen a bad Cronenberg film. DEATHWATCH 11.05pm Channel 4 Shitty British horror, not to be watched or confused with... NIGHT WATCH 11.25pm Film4 Russian horror that iirc is the highest grossing in the countrys history. Like a darker Matrix I seem to remember being told too...but again, I've not seen it. THIEF 1.35am Film4 Highly regarded early Michael Mann (Manunter) film with James Caan. Another one I've yet to see. SUNDAY 7TH OCTOBER HENRY V 4.25pm Film4 Laurence Olivier stars and directs in what's supposed to be the peak of his on film work. I dunno, I've not seen it. FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE 6.25pm five You should be getting in from the match around now, so stick this on and enjoy. Absoloute gem. ALIEN 10.50pm Channel 4 MONDAY 8TH OCTOBER MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 10pm ITV2 The first and the best in the series, Brian De Palma directs. LITTLE RED FLOWERS 11.40pm Film4 The film 4 website says "Set in Beijing in the mid-1950s, Zhang Yuan's Little Red Flowers tells the story of a rebellious four-year old boy who runs riot at his kindergarten boarding school. Based on the 1999 semi-autobiographical novel 'Could Be Beautiful' by Wang Shuo, time and place are not specified, though there is enough evidence to suggest the film is set in the mid-1950s during the early years of Communist China. Of course, the film can be read as an allegory for the regimented nature of Chinese society as a whole - a system seemingly designed to quash individuality - though neither Zhang nor his source author are foolish enough to overstate this. But Little Red Flowers is much more than a veiled criticism of Chinese society. Wherever you're from, you'll recognise the patterns of human behaviour that go on in the school - the bullying, the cliques, the isolating of individuals and so on. (Qiang is even told "you are the evilest of them all.") As Zhang suggests, this not only happens in the so-called best years of our lives but throughout adulthood. So it's not hard to argue that, despite the predominantly young cast, this is not a film for children, but one for adults about children. Led by the charming young Dong Bowen, the most impressive aspect of the film is the most obvious: the remarkably naturalistic performances that Zhang elicits from his youthful cast, who obey him in a way the teachers at the school can only dream of. They carry with ease a work that, although leisurely paced, never feels tedious. It's a film that's as exuberant and quirky as its lead character. From its beguiling performances to its careful construction, Little Red Flowers is an impressive package well marshaled by Zhang Yuan. A subtle piece as delicate as the plants of the title, it's both accessible and thought provoking." Sounds like something. TUESDAY 9TH OCTOBER BUFFALO '66 9pm Five Life Vincent Gallo film I keep missing. Always mean to catch it. KICKBOXER 9pm Five US Van Damme's finest hour. Except maybe for Bloodsport. THE THIN RED LINE 10pm ITV4 Terrence Malick made a couple of masterpieces then didn't make anything for 20 years. When he returned with this, the weight of expectation was too huge for anyone to live up to. This is a brilliant film though.

They did three days ago. Absolute Eurovision legend. R.I.P. Why've they deleted it then? One crappy press release hidden away is no good. I mean it was on the BBC News site. Do you mean there should be a proper tribute to him on their telly site or something? Agreed if so I guess. I just couldn't find it . The BBC website search is shite.

Talking about this the other night (actually we were trying to name famous Dibbles, another one we got was Officer Dibble) and it nearly came to blows over the question is it "Hugh, Pugh", "Hugh, Hugh" or "Pugh, Pugh"? The consensus was they're twins and it's one of the last two.

Cannot believe the BBC haven't got this up. Now that's a legend.

If you wanted to see some arse why didn't you just put some porn on [/Alex] I think I've seen that. Is it set in Florida? Double-cross tastic?? I thought it was a bit inapproriate in front of my colleage. I had a wank later though And aye, he's a police chief who is conned by his lover and it's set in the Florida Keys. Textbook Denzel role. He certainly sticks to what he is good at. I don't think i've seen him change character in his entire career. Malcolm X? Hurricane? Glory? But aye, if it's not a biopic he sticks to what he knows. American Gangster looks like a slight departure (he's not a cop). Getting positive reviews too. -
If anyone in my class kicked up a fuss about it they'd have got a board rubber off their head and a "Pipe down Ahmed!" Can you imagine a student in the maths class arguing that one and one actually makes three?

Not viewed as their best, but personally I love it to bits. Black and white noirish thriller that looks stunning. A lot of people watch Lebowski or OBWAT and don't see the humour, and this one buries it even lower, but nevertheless it is hilarious. Ed Crane, the barber who never speaks (Billy Bob Thornton) gives the performance of his life, uttering only a few words, it all come from his face. I wouldn't recommend it to Wacky or anything, but if you've got the patience for a slow burner you can't do better. Like who? Most of the people I've given a copy to, or forced to watch it (Lebowski). Never really pushed it with OBWAT since I don't love it as much. IMDB has loads of threads from people who can't fathom what's so funny, for example... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/board/nest/80061859 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/board/nest/50463716 Not signing up to read those like. You'd have to thick not to realise either were meant to be funny though. I think our wires are crossed. I think everyone realises it's meant to be funny, they just don't see the humour. I know Night at the Roxbury is meant to be funny, I just don't see the humour. -
