  1. Agreed, a positive frame of mind isn't going to help anyone. We might as well send the reserves out for the next three games eh? keep the first team fresh for the christmas run.
  2. Agreeing? The sentiment of the thread was we should never forget the horror of WW1, and you jumped in with some shite about how people already have that was completely out of step with the tone in there. You didn't even qualify people with a 'some' or 'young' or explain why you've come to this absurd conclusion. And you still haven't. Yes agreeing with the sentiment that it should be remembered and respected, but that it shouldn't just be about date or just names on stone. People remember the horror of more recent wars better (although arguable such things as WW2 are being changed and sanitised and forgotten in ways as we speak - in all manner of ways from Japanese text books to the next Hollywood remake), but the vast majority of British people don't really know about WW1. They may have watched the odd Discovery special or whatever but that's hardly the same thing. And the people that DO remember whether they fought themselves or just watched a generation being butchered are disappearing themselves...... and as they go so do their 1st hand accounts and memories. Even going to look at the WW1 war graves still doesn't really capture the full horror and scale of such industrial slaughter, nor the massive tragic folly of the event in the first place. It's completely pointless to remember those who have fallen in such things if you don't remember and understand to AVOID such things again, frankly that's more of an insult to their memories than most anything else. But yes, clearly I was just "taking the piss". So your main qualm is with the passing of time and the fact more and more people have had no direct relation/contact who was alive during war time? Even though those people can do lots to find out about WW1 with the wealth of information available and on the national curriculum. Also, you're saying if those of us in that position can't do any more than read or watch documentries to remind ourselves, we should just stop trying because we're insulting the people that were there? So basically in one more generation we should just forget about it because we're insulting them even trying to remember given that they're no longer here to remind us in person. I don't know what would be worse tbh, if you're on a WUM or if you believe this.

  4. I've not got angry or traded insults. I've just interpreted that post as a complete wind up as you clearly intended. If you didn't, go and explain, because despite your claims, I don't think anyone in that thread has any idea what you're suggesting.
  5. Is this another slanging match thread then? Is basically any thread I post anything in going to turn into such as soon as you read it? If you keep posting bollocks, probably. I'm fairly sure anything counts as "bollocks" as far as you're concerned. I sense anger management lessons are needed. TBF to Rico some of your posts tonight have been astonishing. Suggesting that the human race have forgotten about WW1 on remeberance Sunday for example. Talking shite for the sake of talking shite. That's not actually what I said though is it. Well if you can't be arsed to back up what you did say, I'll not arse myself to quote you accurately.

  7. 30 years of luck No, I'm not saying he's a rubbish manager (he buys well for sure), but equally he does get the rub of the green more than some. I think you'll find thats down to him being a top class manager rather than lady-luck. We'll have to see, I guess. Aye, wouldn't want to come to a rash judgement of him based on 30 years of consistent success. So I guess he'll be winning the Premiership in what? 2 years? 5? This year? Admittedly after winning the WC twice with England it's fairly odds on. Only if his luck holds. He must be due to get dealt a bad hand.

  9. If they could've finished like Pompey it could have been bad like. But then let's put a positive spin on it, the old complaint was we couldn't grind any points out of poor performances.
  10. Just Ducker I think, and he is prone to silly thoughts...
  11. No and thats my worry - it will be much easier for him to play the "give me time" card if people see a bit of football every now and then. He has the players now compared with Bolton - if his "plan" consists of playing the same way without injecting any kind of resilience (as witnessed so far) then I will upgrade my stance from "worried" to "get rid". The result against Sunderland is one we would normally take - the performance was unacceptable. When we start to lose badly against the good teams will you just shrug and say "I expected that"? Why was the performance unacceptable? First half we were terrible, we missed Butt who's been our best midfielder and was made for games like this. But we came out with far more edge in the second half and didn't lose having gone behind which is unheard of. I don't expect us to lose badly to the good teams, I expect us to make a good fist of it, our best results have come against teams in the top half. But I won't suggest he should be sacked if we do lose them. Especially if we're still higher than we finished last season, we've done better than we did against the same teams last season, and are above the Mackems.
  12. Sven is a better manager than Allardyce. I don't see the relevance of that though. Not when Big Sam was going to be England manager he wasn't. Yes he was. Just because the Sun said he wasn't doesn't mean you have to buy in to that bullshit.
  13. Sven is a better manager than Allardyce. I don't see the relevance of that though. Its surely about degrees though. Theres nothing wrong with what Gemmill says about trying things and it taking time in theory but the fact that other managers have the same issues and are doing said tinkering with better results in terms of results and style then I think its worth stating that I expect better from someone who is supposed to be that good. I would add that I see "giving him time" as two streams - yes he should be judged over a seasons or more work but so many day to day mistakes should be eligible for judgement just as much. Was Allardyce ever supposed to be that good in terms of style? Results wise I've only been disappointed by Derby, Reading and Portsmouth. If I'm happy with three quarters of the results come the end of the season that won't be a bad thing.
  14. Sven is a better manager than Allardyce. I don't see the relevance of that though.
  15. Aye, cos Jol getting them into Europe 2 years running had been shite hadn't he? Ramos has won 2 games though so he must be a better manager. I don't think Allardyce needs time to actually sort things out, I think we're playing the football he's had all his teams play, just a six minute period of stupidity at home has got people up in arms. I think he needs time to be judged over a season rather than after 3 bad results. EDIT: Actually 2 bad results and one perfectly acceptable draw.
  16. I think there's only a couple that do tbf. My biggest worry (even above the wingers being played out of position) is how much more vocal that contingent will be after the next three games. I'm sure given a 1980's media we'd have no trouble giving BS whatever time he needs and we'd see a climb. As soon as the media get the idea fans are discontent they hammer it 24/7. Once the players get wind a manager has the noose round his neck it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Look at Martin Jol, sacked during the game and the fans were chanting his name all through the second half.
  17. Personally I don't think we were that bad. They're bound to be unhappier with the result after going ahead but they never made the most of our terrible first half and should have had more come half time, but we gave as good as we got second half and as BS said, first time we've come from behind all season. 4 points from the derbies is always acceptable imo.
  18. Deluded? That's what I was called when I said Allardyce was no improvement on Roeder. I call it 'sensible' myself though.
  19. Yep. We're 6th in the top half opposition league table. We only struggle against the shite.
  20. Sam's got a bee in his bonnet about using his players, and it's hurting us at the minute.

Aww, what happened Emi? Was your stat not factual? Here's one....If all premier league games had ended at half time this season, we'd be third.
