I've had Wings of Desire sat on my shelf for 2 years. Got it with The American Friend and that was so shit I haven't been able to bring myself to put WOD on. -
This is very true. The guy's a grafter and a good stopper but he lacks pace and any sort of passing ability. If you look at the likes of Carrick or Hargreaves that is really what you want from your holding midfielder. The delusions of grandeur persist. Lets buy one of those in January eh? I quite like Butt but I do see DKs point. I think his passing is a bit underrated though. My main problem with Butt is that I think his legs are starting to go. He's been one of our better players this season having said that. We constantly aspire to better the team, but always get rid of some of our most valuable assets to do it. While he's among our best players I'm not going to start saying he should be replaced. Because he'll end up on top form for some other club and everyone will be saying we should never have let him go.

"Well bad"? You need to stop talking like that innit.

I never understood this, shouldn't Bond's case be with Shepherd and Hall? now that there is a different owner and all? law baffles me most of the time, maybe it's because I've made friends with a few plants that them law makers banned a while ago.... Done by them but on behalf of the club? By a board on behalf of the PLC right? As there is no PLC anymore I don't get it either.

What a load of shite. He goes on like it was a one game blip! Doesn't identify WHAT the problem was at all, and has no suggestion as to how things will get better. If they realise it's unacceptable now, why didn't they realise it at half time?

Allardyce Jr - 32 Bond - 50 Allardyce - 53 Souness - 54 Redknapp - 60 Wonder if this will strengthen Bond's case against us.

Two own goals and a fluked cross, mind. True. At least we were getting the ball in the box...unlike Saturday.

I'd not argue with most of that, except we've been scoring plenty. We scored 3 goals in 4 of our first 9 games which is hardly barren. Even in the disappointing last 4 games, we've scored in all but one of them.

I've only heard of four of those artists and none of the songs. But R-Kelly is a genius. Righto. I'm afraid it's true. The bold four. Though I'm now thinking I was a tad rash and Leona is Lewis with the nose....so make it 5. You don't know who Justin Timberlake is? or the Fray? I bolded Justin Timberlake because, yes, I do know him. Not a clue who The Fray are. I just just asked my brother. He says they sang "I travelled near, I travelled far" to the tune of It'll never work by Baddiel and Skinner. Still none the wiser. JT is Justin Timberlake Ah reet. I'm not down with the kids and their txt spk.

Casting the line into deeper waters? Keep at it, you'll get a catch soon enough.

I think we knew that's how he'd always set his teams up before. I think people just hoped he'd be able to adapt his tactics from doing what was needed in front of 20,000 (and dwindling) disinterested fans, to taking the game to the opposition in front of 50,000+ who demand points however you perform.
-
Makes sense. I presume Gary Speed fulfilled that kind of role for Allardyce at Bolton. January target? Half the squad were here when he was.
-
AKA the Souness method. The only method he knew. You need to be able to do both, and know when they're required. This is why I was asking about the captaincy in another thread. Whoever it is, they should be making the case for the manager to the players as well as convincing the manager when the players aren't going to go with him on something. I don't know if it's old fashioned, but I think a captain like Roy Keane made a world of difference in telling other players when their attitude was wrong. With a strong captain willing to tell both players and management when one is being let down by the other you can get through changing room divisions. If Allardyce doesn't have someone on the playing staff with that kind of sway though, we're screwed.
-
Not sure I was on these boards then, but i distinctly recall being disgusted by the lack of people willing to hang around and applaud for that lap. I was even more disgusted the following year though, when Souness's team got a far politer response from the fans.
-
I thought this was an advocation of bringing back Ron Atkinson. Wouldn't mind him tbf, or Graham Taylor. Anyway, I don't buy all this lost the dressing room stuff. You might antagonise a couple of influential players, but there's no reason you can't make examples of them and use the situation to gain the respect of the squad. Whether it's by making some sort of concilliation to show you aren't a stubborn twat when you're doing everything wrong, or putting your foot down and getting rid of bad apples who refuse to go in the right direction with you.

Actually, reading the article, the point seems to be that over the next 75 years, population might possibly rise by somewhere between 4M and 50M. Christ, I could have told you that for free. I predict by the end of the season Newcastle's points total will increase by between 4 and 50 points. Mathematical genius and that.

I thought by 2081 we were all going to be too fat and anorexic, too Aids ridden and without families, too drowned, frozen and burnt to a cinder, too lacking in natural power sources and radiation poisoned to get anywhere near that kind of population. These so called experts want to make their mind up.
