  1. I'll plump for a nowts each that Allardyce will get lambasted for, even though it'd be an excellent result.
  2. After tonight we'll have played Liverpool and Arsenal and still be higher.
  3. A professional person in another industry would get a certain amount of time to turn around the situation without the constant ridicule of customers and the press. Marks and Sparks has had a REALLY long slow climb to it's current position from it's crash about ten years back, but it's gained a modicum of success from it. I know this was posted way back but.. The team at Marks posted business plans on how they were going to achieve success. They had quarterly meetings at which proof of improvement was shown and the next stage planned. Below thoose quarterly meetings will have been monthly weekly and daily meetings in which any problems were brought up shared and fixed. At NUFC we have Big Sam not giving any proof of improvement at all. Apart from being higher in the league than the last man finished...which is the only progress that counts really.
  4. Not sure there was much trench warfare going on in WW2 tbf.
  5. Given that you started the topic I foolishly assumed you wanted a discussion on it. Yep, but bullshit isn't discussion, at least as far as I'm concerned. I've lived there, have you? And rubbish you can drive from one end to the other without seeing a car (maybe at 3am), clearly you've never even been there. And again causalities aren't high at all given the influx of bikers and other tourists, not to mention that the roads themselves are very, very tricky (lots of very bad roads with cliff drops and bad/blind corners and such) and the conditions can be very, very treacherous (very easy for a road to be generally clear of ice, yet drop into a dip and suddenly the road is sheet ice), given that is a very unforgiving place to drive or ride it is amazing the casualty rates aren't much higher. And yet no real carnage, in fact if you look at Cumbria it has one road casualty per 1050 of its population and the IOM has one per 990 people (should probably be closer to 1050 itself if you take into account yearly % of tourist population as well), which considering all the factors that should increase IOM road deaths just shows what bollocks your "point" is. I've also lived in North Wales which again has some very nasty roads and very bad conditions, it also has had the most speed nazi chief constable around, and yet (when you take his very dodgy statistics massaging into account) their percentage drop is little more than the national average (and scarily the deaths and serious injuries of cyclists and pedestrians has actually increased, in once case by 70% in one year). In fairness the guy does tend to make his cameras very visible, so at least they are doing the job they are supposed to do, that is slow people down, not make cash. So again whilst I'm not against speed cameras as such, I am very much of a mind of how they should be used and should not be used. One side of my family is from the IOM so I go over there regularly, I asked for a manx flag on here...even provided the .jpg, but it's still not been forthcoming. You've basically got a couple of built up areas and miles of hills between them. UK speed limits apply throughout the built up areas while between them, as I said, you barely see another car at any time of the day. Why is my "point" bollocks if you see more accidents per person according to your stats? Wasn't even my point tbh, you're the one who brought up the IOM as a shite example of the perfect system that doesn't even compare.
  6. Given that you started the topic I foolishly assumed you wanted a discussion on it. Have you even driven on IOM? Given that it only has a few hundred miles of road and some of the least busy roads you could find at that, I'd say it's bollocks to even bring the place up as a comparison. You can drive from one side of the island to the other and barely see another car.....yet still it's fatalities are high.
  7. where is the similarity then? i dont think there's an argument that there are valid reasons for all of the above, can you explain what's wrong with driving at 90 mph on an empty motorway? Some people under 16 are more grown up and able to cope with a sexual relationship than others over 16. Some people under 18 can cope with alcohol more sensibly than others over 18, some 16 year old drivers are better than some in their 20's. But the law needs some arbitrary figure. Some people can quite happily do 90 on an empty motorway, but how high should it go? You can't say to people "do whatever speed you think is safe personally". And yet on the IOM that is still what they do (on national limit stretches), and "amazingly" it isn't constant carnage, even with the massive influx of morons on bikes that occurs once a year. Not that I'm saying that is the way for the rest of the UK, but then neither are revenue cameras for road safety. Like the Isle of man has some sort of road safety record to be proud of.

  9. Smooth Operator? I'm guessing the fretting comes from the media stories. Aye, tomorrow's chip wrappers. Can't recall saying I want rid but I don't think I'd be losing any sleep if he was, is there a difference? You've been getting wet with the thoughts of Shearer your lollipop man gives you though.
  10. Fop, are you against fines for driving without insurance? Or Tax? Neither save lives. Also do you agree that the age of consent, legal age to drink and the legal age to drive are necessary though just as arbitrary.

  12. Seems to be a flat out contradiction between the two sides.... "They have a significant negative impact on road safety - they are actually making matters worse." .... "Independent research shows a 42% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured at camera sites - that means more than 100 fewer deaths each year." The independent research backed up opinion seems more believable than the unsubstantiated claim. Drivers who insist Cameras are a cash cow are as bad as smokers who insist they should be able to smoke in pubs and restaurants, just get over it or stay in.
  13. The Verve are another one. Horseshit.
  14. Never liked Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins. I still bought Ten and Siamese whatever though, to try and convince myself because everybody else can't be wrong. Seems they are though.
  15. There is a big differance between those names and the particlular football cultures they come from and Shearer. There is also a massive differance in the set ups they walked into compared to ours. yeah exactly thats what i meant like when has a geordie forward ever made it as a good manager in these post sky days of premiership football? doomed to failure see You're spot on like. And I've never seen a goalkeeper from the Croydon area make it as a manager since the Champions league was introduced either. So it'll never happen.
  16. It's outstanding, honestly. David Kelly has mentioned it before, and if you don't trust me, you know you can trust his impeccable taste. This. My favourite album of 2007 by a not inconsiderable margin. Absoloute class.
  17. How can you fall asleep watching Kinski? The man's mesmerising. His performance is good but the story just seems dull as fuck (something I thought before even starting to watch it but I dismissed that after the reviews it gets). It gets going once they get to the hill.
  18. Spot on really. The last couple of seasons have been the most depressing that I have known, the football has been crap (although I've been going long enough to remember worse) and the crowd has ranged from apathetic to aggresive and the high points have been very few and far between. My love of football is what's suffering the most. I still always want to be at the match but more often than not I can no longer be bothered to watch matches on the telly. I won't ever give away my season ticket though and I will keep hoping that we are going to see things get right. Back on the topic of Allardyce, while I still believe he would be able to do a good job for us given the propper time I just think he's never going to get it and I would not be at all surprised if he wasn't in charge come Saturday (if he is and we don't win he certainly won't be for much longer). The more I think about it the more I am behind the idea of Shearer coming in. The club (more importantly the fans) seems in need of something to reignite it in the same way it did when Keegan arrived. It's sad to say this considering how short a period it is since we were in the champions league and we are obviously in a much better position now than we were when McKeag was in charge but it really does feel like the whole place is so flat. The prodical son coming home might just be the thing to do it. I only hope that if it happens he brings in some experienced quality coaches and not just go with his fan favourite mates like Lee & Speed. I cant imagine it having the same effect though, I'm sure Shearer wont be allowed the time ( by the fans) in the way that Keegan was. Also Shearer has only been gone a season and there has been almost constant speculation about him being our boss unlike Keegan who came more out of the blue. I don't see anyone being given much time anymore but I do think Shearer would get more than any other manager from the fans and if the fans give him time then he will in turn get time from his boss You're right about the constant speculation which was there well before he even retired. It might not be the same thing as Keegan as he came right out of the blue with no one ever considering that he would be our manager. But I do think it is possible that Shearer might be able to get everyone united and put a bit of a spring in peoples step. Tbh I can't really believe that I am starting to advocate this at all but the way the fans have turned on Allardyce so quickly this season really has made me think that no one other than Shearer would get the backing required to put things right. I that might be the key factor. doomed to a high profile failure making us a laughing stock yet again. I have seen nothing to suggest that shearer could do a job as a manager see, he was a crap captain and he never even bothered to try to motivate the treats. He's a typical selfish striker, is there any evidence of strikers making good managers? I cant think of any tbh Keegan? Alex Ferguson?
  19. Apart from our abysmal run of form, injuries and the fact we're playing the league leaders. Nah, the team that got them to the top of the league would include Fabregas, Hleb, Van Persie and Diaby. We'll shit 'em.
  20. Smooth Operator? I'm guessing the fretting comes from the media stories. Aye, tomorrow's chip wrappers.
  21. Yup. I think it's time everyone at the club, fans, management, players and board circled the wagons and gave a big fuck you to the viewing sky sports audience tomorrow night. "You can stick your fucking Sun up your Arse!"
  22. Who actually thinks we should sack Allardyce either now or following the Arsenal match? It seems there's an abundance of threads fretting about it when only 4 or 5 people actually want rid, rather than just being a bit unhappy with the start he's made. I think Jimbo, Wacky, Jaysouthernmag, Noelie and Sammy want rid immediately. Who've I missed?
  23. Howay man, think on. You don't have to pay for films or music these days. And you wouldn't have to rip the DVD's to get the sound on your PC either.
