I started a similar thread on N-O after S&S did an article on the same subject last year.... And I still haven't.

Never heard of it. Will keep an eye for it though. http://www.jdmfilmreviews.com/userimages/u..._1158650181.jpg I'm not one to judge a book by it's cover, but I don't think I will.

Still has a higher IMDB score than Superman. Inconceivable. What, that shite fest with Hugh Laurie in it based on Ben Elton's book? Underrated? Are you mad? It's a Princess Bride reference.

Been to Cannes a couple of times to the festival full of cunts and producers trying to get seed money. Nothing special these days. Having said that they have been supportive of the likes of Mike Leigh. Venice is where it's at. yeah but it'd be sweet if my film was at Cannes. as much as people may knock it, Cannes is still the interntional film festival. Don't get me wrong I like Cannes and things can happen there. There is still a good core philosophy of protecting and encouraging good work, but it is a tad over commercialised now. In the context of Lynch Cannes is immaterial they either love or hate his projects, but he is a great artist and beyond all that now. It was a shame back in the day that the De Laurentis production of Dune kinda destroyed him for the commercial markets. You'll never forgive them for rewarding Taranteeny will you? neither will i. rouge >>> pulp fiction Debateable. I don't think the point of the palme d'or is "this is the best film". I think it's rewarding the advancement of film as an art. Having got through the 80's, Pulp fiction was a suggestion that the US could get back on track, wheras Kieslowski had already won a few prizes there in recent years. It's been similar recently with Romania cleaning up with not necessarily the "best" film each year, it just gives an audience to a region that deserves it having perhaps been ignored and encourages the seeds of a new wave to grow.

I’m only little, so any older films I’ve seen tend to be the widely recommended ones anyway. Charlies Angels 2: Full Throttle gets an undeservedly bad rap. As does Hulk. The King of Comedy never gets mentioned with Scorsese’s best. And to a lesser extent Bringing Out The Dead is excellent too. Croupier if we’re talking British stuff. JFK’s brilliance gets buried in all the controversy of the subject matter. There’s few films that build tension better. Certainly not Silence of the Lambs which robbed it of the top Oscars. King of Masks deserves UK distribution. Have the Happiness fans seen Storytelling? I think it went straight to dvd over here, but it's just as uncomfortably hilarious.

Happy Face replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
He said Blood Simple was the Coen's best film with gorgeous black and white cinematography so we pulled him up on it actually being in colour. He's a good lad really and his film (and other) chat is informed. He's just never going to (be allowed to) get over that. I presumed you were an alter ego so he could actually post in the film thread again without being pulled up on it....and I'm still not fully convinced you aren't. -

It was really funny. I was in floods though. Certainly moved me. I had my big headphones on and in that first 20 minutes from his POV, his breathing and heartbeat felt like they were mine. Really put me in the film. -

Oscar-tastic I've heard. Perhaps released a tad early though. Got 4 nominations. Would have won best foreign film too if only the daft French had entered it. They put Persepolis up instead though, cue a best animation nod that it would have gotten anyway and nothing for the French in the best foreign film category. -

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Remarkable. It's on at the Tyneside cinema (Gateshead town hall) on Wednesday and Thursday. I advise everyone to go. -
It was blindingly obvious that it was never going to work out.
