What a shambles. And this is was one of most important players who'd served the club for almost 12 years. Desperate to keep them like, weren't they? Quite the opposite - not only was the stable door open, Shay was loaded into a catapult aimed in the Manchester direction Despite Shay stating his satisfaction with the club in November (after a few injury strewn years where he played no more than half the games, and in those games he DID play, not as well as the second fiddle keeper did), then issuing a "come and get me" plea in December (after a string of excellent performances), then submitting a transfer request when the club refused offers.

They don't allow the Adidas classic trefoil on new sports gear do they? Got to be the shitty 3 stripe triangle shirley.

Still available in the Northwest apparently. Usually Greenalls Mild though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenall's

Any complany would be daft to go with us anyway... it's hardly worked out well for Northern Rock has it! We're cursed I tells ya! While Brown Ale goes from strength to strength. Are NTL still around? Incorporated by Virgin weren't they? Made millions. Did better than Greenalls anyway.

Pirates of The Carribean - At the end of the world (or summat) Disappointment. Not a patch on the first two. There's plenty of action and great effects, but very little of it is as entertaining as before, they're doing all this expermentation like the Leone or hallucination sequences and forgetting the the derring-do the others had. A Bridge Too Far - Classic Dicky. -
Just nit-picking that his six months of despondency should have been three. That WAS contrary "I've been here for four years. It's a club who have allowed me to discover the France youth team, and I thank them for that, but at some point you have to know how to aim higher" "All that he can see ahead with the turmoil on and off the pitch is a battle for survival. Having served the club loyally for over 11 years, Shay feels compelled to consider his position in the light of the interest being expressed in him by Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham." As far as I can see Shay has behaved no better than Zoggy. The booing of one that started after making his comment and the cheering that peristed for the other is obviously based on the service they've given the club, but is still either unfair on one or leniant to the other.

Fish and Bale, sitting in a tree....

tbf, if he signed a 3 year contract, player morale would go through the floor and we wouldn't survive. So he is concentrating on survival.

And a third to add to the one above and Alex's "distain".... What would Councillor Cox say?

I'm not contrary, I'm inquisitive. I genuinely can't make my mind up on this one. I agree with most of what he says, just think he seems at pains to go on about it and feather his nest. He knew they were prepared to sell him but he was concerned they might scupper the deal with their demands is how I see it. I.e. his days were numbered and the club is going down the pan but a chance like City might not come along again. Aye, all well and good. But he's going on like he was happy to stay and they forced him out... "There are a couple of things they could have done to keep me, but I think in the end they just wanted to take the money" ... "They made me do things I didn't want to do" He had his solicitor soliciting interest before the club had received any enquiries or tried to earn a bob off him. And if it's been such hell for 6 months, why did he say in November... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/7708359.stm

Holy shit! Why orn't I a top paid journalist?

BBC have similar but different quotes... "There are a couple of things they could have done to keep me, but I think in the end they just wanted to take the money," said the 32-year-old. "I just felt that after the service I gave the club, then the regime at Newcastle could have handled the whole thing a bit better." "They made me do things I didn't want to do and this was an opportunity to further my career and pick up more silverware" "In the last six months it has been fizzling out. It has not been enjoyable going into training. "Maybe it's myself just being selfish, but I think I deserved a little bit better than that." "The Liverpool match was a low point in my career" "It was one of those points where if I had left the pitch and never seen a football again I would have been happy, I was that low. "I didn't know if I was going to leave but a lot of people said I was happy and settled, which I was in a way, but I wasn't comfortable. "I wasn't comfortable with the way the club was going. I wanted to be challenging for honours. "By coming here I thought I could be at a club that is challenging for honours. I didn't want to finish my career regretting not taking up this offer."
-
Yeah, I agree. Is he suggesting Newcastle should have accepted £3M because of his service to the club though? Cos he can get to fuck if that's his problem where "they made me do things I didn't want to do".

Have to say, reading it again, a lot of it sounds like he's just trying to ensure he gets a warm welcome whenever he's back in the area. If he was so keen to stay and he was waiting for them to do a couple of things to keep hold of him, and if, like he says, they were dead keen to sell him and get their mits on the cash, if all this was the case, why did he feel the need to put in a transfer request? Can't get my head round that. If that's the case though, he's kicking us when we're down, causing more strife and unrest when there's nothing anyone can do but get on with it and hope the unity is strong enough to keep us up this year. That kind of muck raking that smacks of self preservation isn't sitting well....and I never even blamed him for going.

You mean they won't come free with NUSC membership? I thought it was a double pronged idea to increase subs and spread the message.

Bit out of date seeing as 2 of them have left "One down, four to go!" underneath
