  1. Wasnt that Boumsong He played a large part in our rise up the table too tbf. As an aside, he played regularly in the side that got us to 3rd etc etc. I am told that Dyer, Robert, Bernard, JJ and Hughes were all carried by the others in the side that season by various people. Gary Speed, Solano, Shearer, Bellend and Shay were obviously outstanding. Hope they go on to play in the Masters I seem to remember it more that we scored a lot more then (not Keegan more, but quite a few) so we didn't have to worry so much about letting them in.... not to mention that I remember them coming back from behind on many occasions to win. Earlier this season it was definately a case of it we let one in we'd likely lose. Interesting point - so you agree with Leazes that we need an attacker more than a defender? Our defensive record was better last season than it was in 2001-02 and 2002-3 as it happens. We bettered last seasons in Woodgates full season with us in 2003-4 though. He was (and still is) outstanding.

  4. Yes and not once have I let that blind judgement. Read through the posts and you will see that I agree with needing better defenders. He never denies his faults either. I`m pissed off with the attitude towards someone who has helped this club in bigger ways than the odd goal let in. I have previously mentioned in this thread. The Chelsea one that got us into 7th for the intertoto cup and the one that got us from intertoto to UEFA. Also the really good run of form during Souness time. Playing through injury when able and generally respected the club. Do any of you slagging Roeder off think that we can afford to let him go money wise? Not for shit let me tell you. I would understand if we had 4 top 5 defenders in our ranks but wake up we havn`t. IMO if Roeder let Titus go before Carr, Babayoro, Moore or Ramage he would need locking up in a mental institute. Have any of you thought that even if NUFC want rid that they stand to get alot more for him with a longer contract. If Bramble went before Luque and other poor players in our team then our board would be stupid. As someone said earlier in this thread there are far worse players on bigger wages than Bramble in areas with more cover too. Try thinking before you type. I wouldn't play him again. His inconsistent play and concentration lapses could potentially harm the development of any of our young centrehalves who were unlucky enough to be paired with him. I'd pick Taylor, Ramage, Hunty and Edgar ahead of him. Seriously. Why should we think that he won't have concentration lapses in the future? He's 25 now, he should be at the height of his powers, not just finding his feet. I've given him plenty of chances in the past and willed him to have a good game from whistle to whistle but it's simply not going to happen. The fact that Soccer AM refer to a shambles as 'a Titus Brambles' says it all. Rightly or wrongly, he's a joke and brings ridicule on this club and re-enforces the Newcastle-can't-defend line. Sorry. I stopped reading at the point. Bramble isnt the long term answer. Nor is he anywhere near as bad as people like to make out. He has made more than his fair share of mistakes but he is also a far better player than people give him credit for. Rebellious is quite right in what he says. The lad is scapegoated with some justification but this is way over the top. There are a dozen players in our squad I would get shot of before/with him depending on our ambition. We have some very good players and some who can play very well sporadically. If Titus has the right player next to him he can be very good as we saw with the Woodgate/Bramble partnership and more recently Taylor/Bramble. He needs a mouth next to him. Decent back up player who shouldnt be a first choice. Much like a good few others in the squad/first team. Taylor & Bramble are an awful partnership, all brawn and no brains. Actually make that were an awful partnership, Taylor has looked more complete recently. (Although I still doubt he could cajole Titus through a mistake-free 90mins.) Nah, look back to the Reading and Vigo games (of the few they have played together at centre half) and they did well. It has been rare to play them together this season for a variety of reasons. It was those games that saw Taylor start to look like a footballer rather a lad who believed his own hype incidentally. Still has an awful long way to go though but looking better and good for him. His pace lets him down as does his penchant for dropping back behind the defensive line but heyho, I think he will learn. His gob is a big plus.
  5. But he's young ( ) and English which means he's worth twice what he would be if he came from France or somewhere like that. I know but £8m! thats mental Poor Milner must be the only bloody young and english player whose value isn't doubled! There is a reason for that. Because we don't really know how to make a profit on a player very often.... Good effort. However, in future you could will need to concentrate on the analysis and evaluative structure of your answer based on a situationist perspective. Always attempt to bring together context and theory before developing an outcome. Basing potential on empricial evidence is a common fault. Try to develop the scenario and consider reasoned outcomes based on all factors. From this you should be able to discuss the prioritised items in the final discussion (this is the evaluative element). Good luck Just been marking books, sorry

Well said Leazes. Owen and RvN are very good at what they do. They arent necessarily going to do what Henry does but they contribute the most important thing in football - goals. Martins isnt that type of player at all and I dont think he will be as he lacks the composure of a natural finisher. However, he offers something different. Alan Shearer (prior to his 1997 injury) was an outstanding footballer and whilst his touch remained outstanding he could cross a ball as well as anyone. He was a team player. Martins has the ability to become a team player but it will take time. Whether Owen and Martins can play together is a different matter. Owen is decent at holding a ball up but our style of play may need to be adjusted - i.e. less booting of the ball upfield. On the positive side we do have the basis of a decent side. Taylor is looking better but I think he needs an old head next to him - woodgate would have been perfect. We need a fullback or two. Central midfield is pretty much sorted and I would probably keep Dyer in there if Butt is alongside him. Prefer those two to the other combinations. Left side is sorted and whilst many moan about my thoughts on Milner he simply isnt in the class of the players mentioned in this post. Work to be done but tonight the glass is half full!

still think we should have bought a defender with the money ? No, instead of Duff. Don't start him off
  9. I prefer it over here when that lot arent here.
  10. Indeed, but credit must go to a well ran academy when it is due
  11. Brighter than you tbh Definitely HTL Incorrect. However, the comment made is almost certainly accurate. I used to work with a lass who taught Titus. Apparently he is average ability although he did go to Holywells which is renowned for pupils taking a shit in the classroom if they dont like what is being taught. Taught with a fella who taught Kieron Dyer at Westbourne too and he still pops along to help out (its a Sports College now). Know a few kids at the academy in Ipswich incidentally and KD was in there every day working on his recovery over the summer according to the kid who was in my form who is an Ipswich Youth Team Player. Thats as far as my ITK goes though
  12. I`m sorry but he is better than Babayaro and Carr. Ramage is too slow. Moore is gone in 6 months. Solano is wasted in RB and needs to be on the wing, Milner proved this against Spurs. Taylor, Huntington and Edgar all look good but need a year or so coming in and out of the team gaining experience. The young players need to learn consistancy first before we can rely on them, Huntington proved this against Brum, Milner against spurs and Zoggy this whole season. If we had alot of money and it was the summer then yes look around for better but as it is he a NUFC player and people need to lay off the abuse. I'd be getting rid of Ramage, Moore, Babayaro and Carr too ideally. And it's not like playing alongside Bramble is going to help the development of the younger players. The opposite will probably be the case. Ideally doesn`t work unless your Chelsea tbh and even they have trouble getting exactly what they want. Thats my point though, we need him. The state in which Souness left the club. Why are people being out of order to a player that knows his mistakes and his faults but wants to play for the club and IS playing for the club. Some of the abuse is OTT IMO. Lets say we don`t manage to get any defenders in this window. Lets say he sees this forum and reads some of this over-reactive shite towards him getting a contract that would probably be half the amount most of the first teamers are on. How is that going to encourage a player and help us. As for the development of the younger players he would help, he`s from the Ipswich academey. Its not like he will be taking them for confidence and concentration classes is it. Very well ran as it happens. FA Youth Cup winners 2005.
  13. There are a fair few players of similar ability in our current first team in midfield, defence and up front. The fact that Bramble isnt up to it tells you a lot about the club at present. Many people have given up on ambition judging by the way they laud distinctly average players. One of them is the manager, sadly.
  14. Fluke though. Mathie's was good, Robert's free kick at the murderers though was something else though. Having said it was a disgrace Mathie's 3-2 against Sheff Wed never got in the top 10 on the September goal of the month on MOTD. Love to say otherwise but it was it was an obvious fluke.
  15. Given Harper Krul Srnicek Solano Carr Taylor Ramage Moore Huntington Edgar Babayaro Bernard Milner Dyer Butt Emre Parker N'Zogbia Duff Pattison AOB Owen Martins Sibierski Ameobi 26 players, not the smallest squad around tbh. I don't believe we need a new right winger. CB and full back are the main priority. Carr, Ramage, Bernard, Babayaro, Moore, Bramble, Milner Pattison, Edgar, Huntington, AOB, Sibierski shouldnt get near our first team. Not good enough (in many cases never will be). Youre right about CB and full back positions but the others arent strong.
  16. Good sides dont get results like we did against most of that lot. We need a right winger, 2 fullbacks, 2 centre halves, at least one centre forward. Squad is too thin and the quality within it is generally poor.
  17. Its like hitting a sheep. How old were you in 1995 by the way? what the fuck has that got to do with my ability to tell that Milner is one of our best performers And why would you hit a sheep? Pertinent question. Respond if youre not too shy about it. Apologies if you are. Nb: Please note the use of the word 'like'. It was the giveaway in the phrase.
  18. But he's young ( ) and English which means he's worth twice what he would be if he came from France or somewhere like that. I know but £8m! thats mental Poor Milner must be the only bloody young and english player whose value isn't doubled! There is a reason for that.

  20. ....and Pat Nevin at a Cocteau Twins gig in Leeds Town and Country around 1994.
  21. John Barnes reading porn on the plane to Paris for the World Cup in 1998. He was sat in front of me. Steve Howey sponsored me £20 to do a bungee jump His brother gave me a quid. They were in a pub in Durham.
  22. No way that cross was just decent. He cut out his man feigning to play it right footed then put an excellent cross in with his weaker foot to completely put Pattison free to head on goal. I think we can all see Milner is no top drawer player. He lacks pace and technique for that level. The way his crossing has improved this season (he must be nearing double digits with assists, don't know the exact figures) and the way he's worked on left footed crosses proves that he is making good progress. He's still a young player with a lot to learn. He wasn't cheap, but the price tag wasn't his wrongdoing and we will get at least our money back if we do eventually decide to sell, so we can only be happy at the way he's contribued and showed progress.. Youre right. He does lack pace and technique. Allied to his inability to cross and failure to score goals on a regular basis (2 in his Newcastle career in the Prem). Other than that he is fine Seriously, if that is what people settle for then we are fucked.
  23. So was the right wing. Bot off dickhead. Milner has been one of our best players for months now. saying it twice doesnt make it anymore true I'm hoping he's on the windup. I'm by no means a fan of Milner, but he's been quality this season. No wind up. If your definition of 'quality' is Milner's performances this season then I can only assume you didnt see Solano, Ginola, Robert etc in their prime. The only similarity between the players above and Milner is that they all have 2 legs. He is still nowhere near the level of performance of a young Keith Gillespie. Not good enough. Nowhere near in fact. Sorry to upset the applecart on this one but its been obvious to see for too long now that the kid isnt up to the level we should be aspiring to be at. His performance yesterday was abysmal by the way. His crossing was indicative of his time at Newcastle. He is young but he should have learnt the basics by now. who was so good man united let him come to us. He then managed one good game in 5, much like ginola and robert. I think you have been watching that barca video too many times. Beginning to understand why your so popular. His performances in the 94/95 and 95/96 seasons, when you still thought your dick was for pissing over high walls, were of an altogether different standard sunshine. If you were old enough to be there then you would understand that. Otherwise you are mentally subnormal. One of the two.
