that's actually the way to stay up now, be a yoyo team for a few years, dont spend to much each season and build up so money/team/support so that you can spend in one season and have a squad capable of doing it
-
yes but look at the 2 since then, reading relegated 2nd season wigan only 4 points away in the end

Keegan & Co head for France as Newcastle look to bring in striker Gomis

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/39528/Walter-wants-Gomis What;'s happened in 6 weeks to double his value? Bit like the Boumsong situation only this way we cut out the middle man. A million more than Modric for someone almost exactly the same age, who's played 3/4 as many club games and no internationals compared to 24 games and starting to run the show for Croatia. We're being mugged, but if we're going to bring anyone in maybe we have to accept that. I just wonder how he'd fit into the team. Who's place is he taking? I imagine it's a little harder to get into the French side Nicos. My point is he hasn't been tested against the best. He scored one against Lyon, but otherwise it's the likes of Metz, Lens and Toulouse where he's got his goals, French 1st division relegation bait. Ameobi is our all time second highest scorer in Europe off similar opposition. http://stats.football365.com/dom/FRA/teams/StEtienne.html You can only score against the teams you play, so he might cut it against Man U, Chelsea and that. But £17.5M+ still seems high to me for someone with his (lack of) experience. It's how the market is now man. Right, I think we should hold out for £20M for Ameobi then. If England International and European cup winner Peter Crouch is going for £6M cheaper the market is fucked up. where's he going? -

I'd prefer teams with the financial clout and infrastructure to compete to come up

I may as well ask, where has the limited funds story come from? any actual reliable source material apart from keegan saying that we'll need to spend big to catch the top 4 and the owner is underestimating that amount -
I thought rochemback was pretty good scored an excellent freekick this weekend

that's not quite what I meant when I pointed it out I meant more that you shoudln't discount someone with the right attributes because they aren't prolific when they're young and I picked drogba in particular because they played in the same league and have simialr styles as well as being compared to one another torres too btw, he was never known as being that much a goalscorer in spain but at liverpool he's been brilliant(obviously) Drogba did it in Europe too like. Didn't his performances for Marseille against the likes of us effectively have everyone chasing him? I don't recall this guy dragging St Ettiene to any trophy's. Benefit of the doubt like, he looks strong with a hell of a shot on him in some of them videos, so I wouldn't mind him coming. I'll not get too excited just yet though. Yeh, after the modric thing I'm going to prevent myself getting excited until things are a done deal 's alright alex, don't lose any sleep over it -

he's 22, and has been called up a few times for france but not played he is competing against some pretty fucking good players there though his goal record is actually closer to 1 in 3 and drogba wasn't getting that at his age This. he's 22, and has been called up a few times for france but not played he is competing against some pretty fucking good players there though his goal record is actually closer to 1 in 3 and drogba wasn't getting that at his age He'll be 23 by the time the new season starts. he's 22 now, both points are valid, doesn't actually make much difference -

so that price tag is about £17.5 mil, kinda hurls the only 20m so spend this summer theory out of the window heard a lot about his lad in relation to us, not sen him play but really highly rated by a lot of people, kind of typical african striker, big power and pace from wiki "Sunderland were also interested however as soon as Gomis got wind of this he was quoted as saying "i would rather retire than go to that dump"" bit of creative editing going on there methinks but still -
there are no words
-
haha! yes please, them or sunderland and i will be delighted because not only will we have gotten some money out of it, we'll have become a better team and whoever gets him will become worse
-
Exactly, we need to get into some action or we'll just stay in midtable and become basically what villa were a couple of seasons ago, just a place filler
-
true enough but it can't be all we do,we need to strengthen as well, our squad is already pretty small
-
well we shold be too fluked euro cup or no we should be at least trying for the same level of player IMO and he's a good player who adapted well to the prem in a position we need strengthening plus if he chose birmingham then he can't be to bothered about being in london

I'd get bids in for Dunne, Wright Phillips, Sidwell and Arshavin pronto. That would be most of our problems sorted in one go. Combined £28m. I consider £30m ish...About right. Wages will be more or less covered by the exit of Smith, Duff, Cacapa and Zoggy (wages and fees). Keep a hold of Owen. Slap £20m on Martins head. As said earlier with KK we can safely see the garnering of another 12 points or so with the current squad, with some astute spending we may add another 10. It's easy this football lark. I'd agree with that as far as signings go, not sure about sidwell, think we could do better than that, at least get someone who has played football this season, a long time on the bench can destroy players (ala duff, he was injured too but still) I'd have harper from reading as long as he got a shirt that fit and there are one or two from birmingham I'd take that we could probably get reasonably cheap Aye there is that young DM at Brum forget his name. muamba? I'd take kapo too, bit of power for the midfield which does lack muscle really

I used to really like him but he's a bit of a joke now I find. Plus, he's so pro-Liverpool it's embarrassing. Him and Lawrenson shouldn't be allowed to do the commentary on FiveLive for their games. i don't mind lawro so much, he's just clearly an idiot but green is so fucking miserable all the time it's infuriating, he never actually talks about the football either just gets lost rambling about the stadium or some little bits of trivia he knows about players personal lives
-
alan green getting some shit at last, please let the BBC get fucking rid next season
-
where has this recurring idea that we're going to cut his wages come from anyway? i assume it's pure guesswork seeing as no one from the club would actually tell the press something like that anyway most players under 30 are likely to want to leave if you try and cut their wages, hardly a sensational idea really
