I shook Joe Harvey's hand when i was a kid, we were at Roker Park for a derby and all hell was letting loose in the ground, my dad knew Lawrie McMenemy who was on the staff at sunderland at the time and he took us through the lounge entrance to get away from the trouble. When we were stood at the bottom of the stairs Joe Harvey came down and I said to my dad in what I thought was a quiet voice look dad it's Joe Harvey! to which he smiled and did the hair ruffling thing!! it made my day to say the least!!! If I remember rightly it was a 1 - 1 draw Billy Hughes scored for Sunderland and Pop Robson scored for Newcastle

If someone had said at the start of the season would you take 4th from bottom, I would of said yes! I could not see where the goals were coming from, Ba had just joined us from a relegated West Ham, Ameobi is hit & miss, Lovenkrands is there to fill the gaps same could be said of Best, with the fine form of Ba, Tiote, Cabaye, Colocinni Ben Arfa (of late) and the arrival of Cisse this has been a season to really enjoy not only are we playing as a team but at times like last week against Stoke the football has been a joy to watch. Having said all that next season we will be expecting to qualify for Europe and thats when it can get very difficult to repeat the relative success of this season.

Cabaye's pass to Cisse was a thing of beauty!! Cisse's run in behind there back 4 was also brilliant!!

The last few World cups have been very poor IMO & although I hate to admit it the Champions League has a far better standard of football. None of the truly great players would thrive in a team that lumps the ball forward ala Stoke!! & that includes Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Zidane & Messi these guys are artists, when you watch someone truly special it looks as if they are the big lad in the school yard & the others cannot get near them, you just have to watch Maradonas goal V England in 86 and many of the Messi goals to see that. Messi's passing is out of this world the amount of times that he splits a defence with a 20 yard pass is unbelievable & they are the hard ones to spot and complete, like I said on an earlier post Maradona had one truly exceptional world cup in 86 and 3 ordinary ones I hope that Messi does the business in a world cup to cement his place as one of the all time greats.

I think Messi is the best I have ever seen, I know folk say that you have to do it in a world cup but I'm sure that will happen, you have to remember who was the coach for Argentina in the last world cup & I don't think his ego would of allowed him to play Messi as he should be played. Maradona had one really fantastic world cup in 86 out of the 4 that he played in & Messi still has 2 World cups to go when he will be in his prime, fantastic player enjoy him while we can because they don't come along that often!!

Am I the only one that wondered how a centre half ran the whole length of the pitch to score the winner without being tracked by a forward?

A big ask especially with our weakened midfield, would be happy with a draw.
