I'm sure this place'll be fine once the new season kicks in (or the next time someone does something to aggravate a bunch of the regulars over on the other place ). It's a fair point about your internet use and stuff changing over time though - over time, the Eurovision "community" I'm part of (and not in the "care in the..." sense ) has moved from an e-mail mailing list to an IRC chatroom to a guestbook-style messageboard, leaving some stragglers in its wake each time, and with the same regular meetups and sense of "real life" you get with the clique on this place, but now it's become so diffuse - what with everyone having always-on internet, being on MSN the whole time and whatever - that people just aren't as bothered about having a single source for checking in on people, some of whom they like, some of whom they dislike and some of whom they couldn't care less about.

I had a 2001-era PC running 2000 Professional until very recently. Bought something new off-the-shelf with Vista preinstalled without even thinking about looking for XP refurbs etc., and while it's all very nice and new and sparkly, there are various glitches and (not unexpected) compatibility issues with bits of software that I use a lot, so... meh.

Never seen the point myself, not at the price and with the drawbacks you mention anyway. Would only consider it if I was stocking up for a party or something and wanted absolutely loads of (non-fresh) stuff delivered.

It's ok, once the season starts people will be back on the "I prefer Hitler to Shola Ameobi" stance instead. I wish some people would understand the point that not everyone is like Alan Shearer with their thoughts on NUFC. I don't believe there is any irrational hatred of Ameobi, just a very reasonalble opinion that he isn't good enough. Have you read some of Matt's posts?? That's just one person. Though, admittedly, he does harbour enough Shola hatred for at least half a dozen busy Toon messageboards.

The translation company I worked for in Mainz expected ludicrous hours of overtime, very rarely paid. My current mob are much better for that kind of thing - at least time-and-a-half, and a fair degree of willing with regard to flexitime - so I don't mind sticking my hand up and saying I'm available for duty more or less whenever they need me, prior commitments permitting. As mentioned above, it does tend to reflect well on you in the longer run.
