  1. And yeah, I should have thought of Osborne Road sooner really, there's tons of small hotels, guest houses and B&Bs there.
  2. Maybe they've got an allocation of rooms that they guarantee to pay the hotel for, in exchange for asking the end customer for a lower price than the rack rate. Standard practice in the industry AFAIK, though I think you tend to see it less for smaller hotels than the big/posh chains. I think.
  3. I know there's a guest house just off Gosforth High Street called the Western House that would be fairly convenient for the station (30/31 bus, about 20 minutes door-to-door) and the ground (tons of buses straight back in to the Civic Centre in less than 10 mins), but I've no idea if it's any good, if its prices are remotely competitive, if they'd have rooms free or anything else really. That a1 tourism site has them (http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/a48349.html), just a phone number though I think.
  4. See, that's why repatriating immigrants is a bad idea.
  5. I'm quite good at knocking people over.
  6. Quite why it ended up with a bunch of Newcastle United players celebrating is beyond me.
  7. Still on the statute book isn't it? I.e. execution for treason. Think we had to get rid of it for compliance with EU law. Bloody foreigners, coming over here, messing with our archaic legislation.
  8. Band you saw live Okkervil River Play you saw live No idea. Does "Jesus Christ Superstar" count? Restaurant you ate at Meze Mangal in beautiful Brockley Meal you cooked Sausage casserole
  9. Ahh McCowans. Wham Bars, Irn-Bru Bars and Highland Toffee, all made in glorious Stenny. Can't beat 'em.
  10. Swedish anchovies are dead nice, the ones you get from IKEA. They're a lot milder. The tins are still lethal though.
  11. British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music
  12. Film you watched at the Cinema: Children Of Men. And only because I got free tickets from some offer on Film 2006 album you got: Sufjan Stevens - Michigan (earlier this year, mind) DVD you got: Day Of The Jackal Book you read: Christopher Brookmyre - A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil
  13. I'm still waiting for you to make one of those. Maybe PM me when you do? It gets boring tracking you after a while.
  14. Fray Bentos is a town in Uruguay.
  15. Great film that. I remember thinking the soundtrack / score was good too. It really is like. I wouldn't quite stretch to OMG MODERN DAY CLASSICAL MUSIC or any of the other platitudes that have been fired his way, but he's clearly a very talented composer when it comes to capturing a mood.
  16. Seriously though. In whose world does "Aye well in your size comparisons ANYTHING looks "massive", eh? " merit any kind of serious response?
  17. Let's just hope those quality players aren't limited to short-in-stature Africans.
  18. It's no Thin Blue Line tbh Martin. Which, in turn, was no Gimme Gimme Gimme. Thank fuck. Orbital - Chime
  19. To be fair, that applies to all public art and local improvement projects. You could redistribute all the things that have made Newcastle city centre (we'll let those south of the Tyne call it NewcastleGateshead if it makes them keep on paying for everything) a more modern, accessible and pleasant place over the last couple of decades to Granny's Tinned Ham And Fuel Bill fund and life would undoubtedly be much fairer, but also of a lower quality for everyone fortunate enough not to be in that position in the first place. Swings and roundabouts really...
  20. It's salty, fatty, jelly-y and altogether un-ham-like. I can only recommend it. I've had the odd Fray Bentos pie, particularly back in my stoodent days. Tempted to try one again for old times'/indigestion's sake.
  21. Hans Zimmer - The Thin Red Line OST
  22. Aye well in your size comparisons ANYTHING looks "massive", eh? That's poor even by your standards. True - only italics and caps.
