The media portrayal of Obama as a "flip-flopper" has already started - with some justification, as his move towards the middle ground has been a bit cack-handed, but you're always going to have to jettison a few party-friendly policies as you try to appeal to a broad majority. Meanwhile, McCain's own blunders go largely unreported. Now you could argue that's because nobody cares about McCain, but it's the flip-flop badge that did for Kerry in the end, and I'm sure it's a tactic the right will be only too happy to pursue again this time (alongside the OMG Muslim/black man/sounds-like-Osama cards, natch).

So they claim, yes, but they knew full well how it would play. I thought they were pro-Democrat (even positively endorsing Kerry)? I was thinking more in terms of getting publicity at all costs (even if that means damaging a Dem's campaign). Media whores, the lot of 'em.

I realise it's fashionable to court the readers of Attitude and famousmales.net these days, but that's just taking it too far...

They don't have them in Hamburg, just mythical water-carriers with dubious modes of salutation.

I think far more than 10% of them know it, they just can't be bothered. I'm one of them.

Is this them? I Googled it and this was the top hit, but I haven't driven for almost 10 years, so I have no idea what I'm looking at here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm

Everyone involved in that let themselves down, even those who were in the gutter in the first place.

I'd agree with that. I've been to a few recordings of the Now Show, and even in that "safe" Radio 4 environment, you can tell how razor-sharp Hugh Dennis is.

I assume the Mock The Week crew are at least briefed on what'll be coming up in the show, though - it certainly seems that way - whereas WLIIA, for all the basic structure was prescribed in advance, had the "audience suggestions" element to make the participants really earn their money. I remember seeing Greg Proops in stand-up at the Playhouse in... must have been 1994 or thereabouts. He did an hour, tops, and spent about five minutes of that being amused by the words "Whitley Bay".

Officially not going to make this now. Boo! Should be up for pre- or post-match drinkies around the Hull game on September 13th, if nowt else. Seems like a long way away still...

Northern Rock won't be the last bank the UK government has to step in and "save", either. The seriously dodgy mortgage lending pursuits of the last five years (plus) are about to come back and bite us in the arse quite spectacularly. Hold on to your hats... Probably not so much your hats you should worry about holding. Well, they'll soon be worth about as much as the rest of our "assets".

What's the army done to deserve that?!

The aforementioned Lucy Porter is decent but the late Linda Smith was the best. Aye, she was great. "Radio 4 comedians" are often criminally underrated.
