FilmFour showed "Second Best" the other night - don't know if it'll be on again, as it'd been the best part of a decade since I last saw it on the telly, but it's a simply lovely piece of low-key, understated British drama - the kind of thing we (putting my nationalist hat on for a moment) do so well. (Needless to say, the linked Wiki synopsis doesn't remotely do it justice.) Do check it out if it turns up at some point.

At last, a legitimate excuse for using the Fat Bastard Lift to Level 7!

It's "it's", for that matter. -
I always knew Cherie Lunghi was a trailblazer.

Didn't say I'd leave it for a bottle of drops dd I. Just don't want to end up in the wrong queue at the docs and get gassed. I remember my sheer joy at finding a doctor in Hamburg who actually prescribed pills for things rather than trying to cure you with mint leaves, yoga and positive thinking. Naturally, he wasn't German.

Lots of laymen have too. As I've always said, the only plus to the Tories getting in is that the shit is really going to hit the fan under their watch. You just worry about what they'll do to resolve it.

Can I just point out, as if it wasn't spectacularly fucking obvious already, that I do think he deserves to be champion?

Magma's parents not amused.

It's more the way in which Button's perceived to have won it, though, isn't it? If his wins had been spread throughout the season with the others picking up victories either side, it'd be an entirely different matter. As it is, he benefited from the early advantage the Brawn car had, then basically clung on with his fingernails for the second half of the season - hence "underwhelming". Nothing wrong with that, it's just the way the game works - but I hope you and Craig are right and he goes on to prove the doubters wrong next year.

On my mum's side, it's pretty much centred around the same Swedish village and looks like a Spirograph pattern. On my dad's side, it stops dead three generations ago when the family name was changed arbitrarily to cover up what we believe to be a series of strange and unusual crimes. Brilliant.

World Cup play-off draw coming up. I imagine all of the unseeded teams will be crossing their fingers and praying for Greece...

I took it more as a cumulative comment on Stephen Fry's omnipresence than a real satire on the Moir case, but I see where you're coming from.

I honestly think Button will go down in history as one of the more underwhelming world champions unless he can repeat the feat (or come reasonably close) next year. Not saying he deserves that fate, but just like last year, it's been another season where nobody has really dominated per se. That said, good on him for getting a break with a decent car after years of plugging away - and as for his second half of the season, sure, it's not been spectacular, but grinding out 0-0 draws and 1-0 wins is an accepted way of winning a league title once you've established a lead, so hey.

Brilliant stuff. Even relatively mundane things like seeing the area around Grey's Monument pre-pedestrianisation is enough to hook me in.

Might I be so impertinent as to ask how she died? Was it because of her sordid and debaucherous lifestyle? And even if it wasn't, would you mind if I suggest that it was?
-
And hang on a second. "Tragic"? She's only willing to see Gately's death as "tragic" if we're willing to accept that the coroner is wrong and the fact that he smoked a joint and he and his husband might have been having a threesome that night - neither of which straight couples ever do, naturally - is proof enough that he died in some sordid GAY BUMSECKS-related way (without being able to qualify what that might actually be, of course - the little-known Gay Shame Sofa Death Syndrome perhaps?). Oh, and as long as we're willing to admit that the death of someone who's in a civil partnership undermines the very concept of civil partnerships and exposes "the ooze of a very different and more dangerous lifestyle". Ooze that has EVIL AIDS JUICE in it, no doubt. Come on.
