But like the Murphy's, you're not bitter.

    Apartheid

Just proofreading a piece for a company who have chosen to illustrate the page on their UK office in next year's annual report..... with a cup of tea.

Aye, I always used to enjoy the surprise you get from someone when you speak their language fluently as a Brit abroad, but obviously that still stems from a kind of superiority complex. Or a cultural stereotype of the British even.

    Curries

Aye. Get them used to it early with kormas and the like, it's what my parents did. (Then "accidentally" order them a Curry Hell one day. )

I probably have a skewed take on Germans since the vast majority of my encounters over the five years I lived there and beyond have been with girls, gays and kids. All of whom I generally like, although all German 20something women seem to have the same shrill voice, which is peculiar. Some of the straight men are incredibly dull though.

    Curries

Particularly in conjunction with "banana curry".
  7. A five-CD box set of 1980s Yugoslav rock.
  8. I will do this week(end), there's a couple of local shops and the local Christmas markets to check out. Plus the Tate Modern shop which is usually good for a stocking-filler or two. Other than that, all online, absolutely. The less contact with actual human beings, particularly in this of all months, the better.
  9. Is this like "Only Connect" where you have to guess what comes next in the sequence? Since they get progressively more awful, I'll wager that the 2010 song is Rio Ferdinand and his "posse" going urban all over Scooch's "Flying The Flag (For You)".

  11. My old man's getting various world music CDs that'll be of no interest to anyone here, plus one or both of these books, depending on how much I can be bothered to lug northwards: The Austerity Olympics: When the Games Came to London in 1948 Englischer Fussball: A German View of our Beautiful Game Struggling as usual with the hobby- and interest-free zone that is my mother, but this is probably a safe bet at least: Torvill & Dean's Dancing On Ice - The Bolero 25th Anniversary Tour
  12. Meanwhile, a decent enough summary, I think: http://www.wherediditallgoright.com/BLOG/2.../ratm4xmas.html
  13. Mind, if there's one "genre" that I bet gets bought, listened to once or twice then quickly forgotten about, it's the Reality Music Show Winner's Single. Even most middle-aged housewives prefer their Westlife albums in the long run.
  14. And it also sends out the message that being properly ill means you're a lesser student. Nice one.
  15. "Dein süsses Muttermal fand ich in Wuppertal", that's when I cracked.
  16. True. At least they mitigated it (or chickened out, if you prefer) with the "once-in-a-lifetime" bit, I suppose.
  17. Aye, followed by the great Anschluss stitch-up. Correct. Led to the final group games being played at the same time. See that's the difference between British and integrity and the rest of the world. England and Scotland would never have dreamed of doing such a thing. It helps that England and Scotland largely hate each other, at least in a sporting environment, while Austrians are just Germans but with a greater tendency towards inbreeding, mental illness and xenophobia.
  18. I have a Che towel. Fight the power! I still want this quite badly: http://www.dannabananas.com/i-have-no-idea...-is-onesie.html (EDIT: Albeit as an adult T-shirt rather than a baby one. )
  19. Indeed: http://nufc.com/html/2000-10-16boroa.html
  20. Aye, followed by the great Anschluss stitch-up.
  21. The bitterness oozing from Fish with regards to P.Kay is very similar to yours regarding the iphone, does this clarify things for you? But it amuses me that everyone keeps arguing back, More money than sense tbh I neither have nor want any of the items under discussion. More sense and less money than everyone!
  22. Belated happy birthday Boyo, buon compleanno Stevie
