  1. Posted it in the Newcastle forum already, but it's worth repeating here. </pseudoattentionseek> Plus WSC is one of those grossly underrated sources of decent football writing - finding it in WHSmith still feels like an act of subversion at some level. http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/5703/38/
  2. I actually struggled to breathe.
  3. I've a lot more time for Smith as a raconteur than a film-maker these days. Which is fine - the podcasts are free and the films cost money. Seems a fair deal.
  4. Spanish City, absolutely.
  5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid The audience of bairns and tweens seemed to enjoy it, my kidnapper for the occasion included, so who am I to argue. Actually not half bad for a kids' film - a bit episodic and formulaic in places, but ticks along with snappy visuals otherwise, and it's interesting to see a lead character who's actively manipulative, weasely and unpleasant in his efforts to become popular. Though I'm sure that was largely lost on the target audience.
  6. And woe betide anyone at school with either name. Taping songs off the radio for me. Especially in 1986 actually. When music stops becoming a background thing and evolves into something you actively want to investigate, but all that's available to you is Metro and Radio 1.
  7. If you liked it then you shoulda put a hijab on it

This one? We have it. "" apparently. Someone must have complained.

You need to do some work on your Gemmill legend knowledge. The smiley is my favourite laughing one, cos it looks like it's taking the piss. The blue one looks like it's laughing with you, not at you. Baals, I knew you had an opinion on the matter. I just assumed it must be the same as mine.
  10. Thanks for the nudge - just grabbing it now. Be silly not to when it's barely more than £3.
  11. That was always my problem with that Billie Piper song. Well, one of my many problems with it.
  12. Felt your pockets. Its Scouse vernacular.
  13. Sicklee is a legend. If I was straight I'd go gay for him.

This may well be the first thing you've ever said that will endear you to Gemmill. I seem to recall he was particularly vehemently opposed to the flid-lipped yellow lol-er. I prefer ol' bluey too (the old TT one, not yours).
  15. Fortunately, Christianity was already widespread among the various American Indian populations when we arrived.
  16. Just read that Daily Mail link. Fuck me, this country is full of mongs with too much time on their hands.
  17. The Diana Vickers album is canny and JLS have a couple of decent tunes, though their latest one was gash and they're a fucking disgrace to look at. As for the show, of course it's a load of manipulative cack. (And the lass - sorry, the mother - doing "Mercy" was using "her own arrangement", hence the vocoder [and it being heinously bad].) But anyone who's suckered in or gets wound up by it needs looking at too. You can tell three minutes out how each individual piece is going to pan out, because if the backing music starts up and it's something that has a big key change or final chorus, you know they're going to tie it in with Cowell looking sceptical then delivering the decisive "yes". I'm loath to say "IT'S ENTERTAINMENT STUPID", but really, if that's what entertainment has stooped to and you can't see through it and treat it as one big drinking game (dead relative sob story? shot! "this is all I've ever dreamed about"? shot! "you're very likeable"? down the bottle!), then more fool you.
  18. That happens everyday when he gets out of the shower and looks down anyway - it's all relative. That's a fairly oblique way to talk about the top of his dad's head.
  19. Depends if employers still buy into the urban myth about a 2:1 being better than a 1st because it proves you were capable of having a social life too.
  20. Much as I'm flattered by the idea that I mask my intelligence to fit in, it's far clearer that I exaggerate my effeminacy to stand out. Don't tell anyone though.
  21. By "closer to Death" do you mean that you know him from the Old Testament? Rob's already done the whole death thing. Dead before he hit the ground tbf.
  22. Completely. Happened to me at university too. Possibly for the best, mind, as otherwise I might have ended up living in France.
