  1. Plus you're helping a smaller business in times like these and all. I'm not po-faced enough to avoid chain places on some kind of spurious moral grounds, but if it's a matter of a few quid more and the food/drink/service is better then it's a no-brainer!
  2. Aye, good stuff Stevie. And Blackfriars is lush. That's one of the regrets I have about living in a massive city, you can have fantastic restaurants and pubs and whatever on your doorstep but there's no point in recommending them to people because [a] they live 30-60 minutes away and they've got their own fantastic restaurants and pubs on their doorstep.
  3. I can understand it tbh. I like to think I'd be sensible like that - stash it in the bank and live off it - but I know I'd want to blow a good amount on this, that and the other. Travel, buying a business as a bit of a plaything on the side, all that stuff. And once you get used to having that kind of money it must be hard to stop, whether you're spending it on "worthy" things or not. Still, I'd expect people to point and laugh if the same thing happened to me, so all the same.
  4. Well you've got to have a rest from the hard work.
  5. Keeps forgetting to ask if you want fries with that?
  6. You were just waiting for him to post that so you could ram the point home, weren't you?
  7. Aye, same here if anyone's willing to get their hose out.
  8. Desperately trying to stay awake. Pathetic.
  9. I spent all my time reading the first Harry Potter book as a bairn calling her 'her-me-own' It's amazing I could read in the first place. They changed her name to "Hermine" for the German translation of the books/films. Fun fact of the day!
  10. 32, though on mornings like this I do feel more like O'Grady's vintage.
  11. Given your recent record on crim-spotting...........................................
  12. Urgh, gay sex mentioned in the same thread as James Corden. Puts me right off my dinner that does.
  13. Nowt much really (surprisingly enough). Had a bit of a set-to once with a knuckle-dragger in an Irish pub in Mainz who'd spent the preceding hours incessantly questioning a certain orange Portuguese player's sexuality in less than pleasant terms from the bar stool next to me. Certainly wouldn't call it a fight though, considering he was too shitfaced to actually land a punch. Otherwise nowt much unless SMO can recall any incidences of me getting ratty after he broke one of my Subbuteo keepers.
  14. My industry doesn't really have managers per se (envelope-changing "project managers" at disreputable agencies don't count). There's no intermediate step between what I do as an experienced translator in my field and outright owning a translation company. Not the kind of vocation for someone who wants a clearly defined career ladder in front of them, basically.
  15. Cheers for the reminder, I've just put in my entry for the general ballot. Won't be running it for charity if I do get in - I did a charity 10K recently enough that it'd be a bit cheeky to fleece people again - but (for precisely that reason) I'll make a point of donating to anyone else who is, yourself included.
  16. Because we were epic musical comedians when we were 17, we wrote this song about this lass in our year. And she knew about it when it was happening and actually contributed some lyrics to it herself, but once the shit hit the fan and the song started doing the rounds she pretended to know nowt about it and let her parents kick up a stink. Anyway, long story short is we acted all apologetic and defused the situation with some flowers from Katherine's on Gosforth High Street and some carefully chosen words. And then promptly got beered up the next weekend and went to her house and took an Abbey Road-style set of photos with us all doing comedy poses outside her front door. None of them came out, which pretty much sealed the FAIL of the whole thing.
  17. They've got back to some kind of form compared with the flabby stuff they were churning out in the first half of the 2000s, definitely. Still can't find it in myself to care about them the way I did about the Richey-era albums, although being a miserable teenage sod at the time probably helped!
