  1. Snap - though the tie stays at home from tomorrow and remote access will be possible. Funny being somewhere where things are happening and people have things to do after how much the previous place had turned to shit. Of course I hadn't been fully set up on the systems so its nice to see how IT production uselessness is universal. Only dodgy thing is its one of those "let's all stay to 6:30/7:00 just to prove how dedicated we are" - don't mind it for a while but I'll migrate to my 5:00 bell soon. Love the way that's always blamed on IT like. I can't speak for other organisations but at ours, the main problem is that the employee number is used as the login ID (an HR decision, NOT an IT one). Conversely that means that we cannot create a new user account until HR have informed us what the employee number is. Only they refuse to generate that number until the day the person actually starts (i.e. so they don't generate an emp no. for someone who thinks "fuck it, i'll not bother turning up" which happens more than I thought). Result being the new starter doesn't get handed their login details until midway through the morning of their first day. Then most secondary logins have to be created after that a lot of them rely on active directory. Be fucking wonderful to live in a world whereby we flick a switch and the job is done - not in the least bit realistic though. Don't give me your excuses bloody IT punkawallah, just get it fucking sorted Have you tried turning it off and then on again?
  2. I posted it for you. I thought you'd approve after your Phil Collins megamix earlier.
  3. Ploughed through Kathryn Stockett's "The Help" on Saturday. Not life-changing stuff, but rewarding all the same. Bizarre to think, while watching Merkel et al commemorate 50 years since the Berlin Wall went up, that the "good guys" in early-60s America were easily as hideous as their Commie counterparts. Also read Damien McNicholl's "A Son Called Gabriel" - a reasonably engaging tale, but the typesetting was so awful that the nerd in me can't possibly recommend it.
  4. What the fuck have Muslims got to do with this? And why should we kill them all? Warum nicht? Wenn du das nicht mal weisst...

  6. From what I heard they were referring to the use of social media to glorify gang culture, ie vids of knives and weapons on youtube/facebook and all that malarky. Just to be specific. I freely admit I'm going from news reports etc. here rather than the first-hand statements, so I hope it was as specific and targeted as that and I can merrily eat my words. I haven't had lunch yet. Failing that I'll just loot Kevin's Maccy D's.
  7. Aye, what are the odds of any of the under- and unemployed young people involved in the riots having any experience in the heady world of the entry-level-wage fast food industry?
  8. Me too, best website on the internet by a mile if you sort through the many mugs and add the right people. I very rarely even use the website tbh, browser add-ons and apps all the way. Ah aye me too, app I meant "app" yeez younguns. You knew what I meant. Honestly I didn't, I know a lot of people who just use it from the actual website (which seems a bit inefficient). Meanwhile, heartening to see Cameron vowing to clamp down on "social media", that evil and nebulous entity that allowed people to find out whether they were safe to leave their houses or not, communicated local information more efficiently than traditional news sources, helped people to organise voluntary clean-up operations and is still helping to identify criminals (while the latter were busy using the non-social-media Blackberry messenger system to arrange their next targets). How is that politicians (of all hues) can be so clueless about this kind of thing? I realise Modern Technology is a daunting thing if you're cut off from the real world in a Westminster bubble, but these people are supposed to have advisors at least.

  10. They broke into Ladbrokes and both lost £50 each! They broke into McDonalds and cooked their own food! Oh wait - that actually happened. Did it? On the first night when it was just Tottenham, apparently, aye. Don't think it was ever reported anywhere 100% reliable, but I like to think it's true just because why would you make it up?

  12. I was watching the Spain-South Korea U20s match on Eurosport late last night, and for all I reckon they do a decent enough job given the budget they're on, I lost count of how many of the pens in the shootout were greeted with a response of "Buried it!". I mean I realise there's only so much you can say about a pelinty, but still...
  13. http://rosamicula.livejournal.com/540476.html Another interesting perspective (ignore the Adult Content Warning, it's disappointingly SFW inside).
  14. Have I ffs pmsl not early signs mate, been doing it for years. Too many cowies as a kid I put it down to. Just think, Cantona retired at 30 so you're not alone among greats if you retire now. And Des Hamilton only made it to 27.
  15. Having finally scrapped My Family, the BBC's replacement is going to be a comedy about a gay couple... starring Robert Lindsay. Radical.
  16. Oh well, nevermind. She's changed a lot since she was in utero. She's got a look in her eye that says RAPE MEEEE In her Heart Shaped Box? Kevin S. Assilleekunt will have his revenge on her asshole?
