  1. Why? Seems inconsistent with your approach to the matter generally.
  2. ...ah, but since when?
  3. That's efficient troll-baiting there Fisty, 13 words for a 125% return on investment. I remember reading a lot of the articles and reminiscences when the 60th anniversary happened, and being surprised at how little I really knew about the events that that took place on and around that day, both at an operational level and in terms of the personal stories of sacrifice and achievement. I suppose it's such an inconceivable event for us nowadays, in terms of both scale and nature, plus no family members or acquaintances served in or near the event - and I haven't been exposed to any dramatic interpretations of it (Hollywood or otherwise) so I don't really have any technicolor moving images to match the words. Which might not be such a bad thing. "Never forget", they rightly say, but even with the sense of distance and anonymity that time brings, we never will.
  4. Just good honest high-rate taxpayers fulfilling their public duties as persons of standing. I hope someone calls YOU wierd the next time YOU make a sardonic comment on an internet forum.
  5. Watching France-Estonia on ESPN, half-time now. Canny goals from Ribery and Benzema. Cabaye keeps trying, but nowt doing yet.
  6. Popped into the Gibraltar Rock at Tynemouth for a quick pint with me old man this afternoon. Shabby-looking pub, great views, average beers - but the barman upstairs had 6 Music on, so it's a 10/10 from me.
  7. Parents have it on. One is about to ferry me to the station. If it's on the car radio too there'll be ructions.
  8. The sound mix on this is fucking appalling.

  10. The baby carrots were very... short and bulbous, for a start. So yes, with a certain testicular quality to them, albeit also slightly pointy. Acutely tapered root-vegetable nads, if you will.
  11. It didn't feel much like a wedding venue until a lass in a flamboyant bridesmaid's dress suddenly swooshed past while we were having drinks at the bar. Seems like they basically couldn't decide whether to be a restaurant, bar, event venue, nightclub etc. so just decided to do everything.
  12. (I trust I've understood the thrust of the thread correctly.)
  13. *counts the seconds until Wacky makes a 'Cream of Sum Yung Gai' joke*
  14. Just back in, and I'd concur with all that. Nice-looking place (on the inside!) but you can see how it could easily transform into a shed full of knackers on a busy night at the bar. Decent Sunday roast too. Nice cut of lamb, massive Yorkshire pudding, amusingly shaped baby veg. Good enough for a tenner really. I suspect even CT would approve.
  15. Anyone been to a place in Jesmond called As You Like It? Just about to head there for a family meal - my aunt's choice, birthday girl's prerogative - but the website makes it look like it could be either brilliant or horrendous (or possibly a bit of both).
  16. Most normal people will be celebrating it with an alcoholic drink too. Normality isn't everything.
  17. I really like this one by Clapton. Mellow.

  19. Some genius on a forum I read suggested that the attacker "maybe saw this sort of thing in a computer game". Remarkable.
  20. "Thugs spoiling for a fight with an easily identified minority" tend to.
