  1. *counts the seconds until Wacky makes a 'Cream of Sum Yung Gai' joke*
  2. Just back in, and I'd concur with all that. Nice-looking place (on the inside!) but you can see how it could easily transform into a shed full of knackers on a busy night at the bar. Decent Sunday roast too. Nice cut of lamb, massive Yorkshire pudding, amusingly shaped baby veg. Good enough for a tenner really. I suspect even CT would approve.
  3. Anyone been to a place in Jesmond called As You Like It? Just about to head there for a family meal - my aunt's choice, birthday girl's prerogative - but the website makes it look like it could be either brilliant or horrendous (or possibly a bit of both).
  4. Most normal people will be celebrating it with an alcoholic drink too. Normality isn't everything.
  5. I really like this one by Clapton. Mellow.

  7. Some genius on a forum I read suggested that the attacker "maybe saw this sort of thing in a computer game". Remarkable.
  8. "Thugs spoiling for a fight with an easily identified minority" tend to.
  9. Ach well, the gays went to Ukraine for Eurovision in 2005 and came away unscathed (other than those who enjoy that kind of thing ), so I'm sure it'll all be fairly tame this year too.

  11. They're in the household goods aisle of PennyMarkt, next to the Choc Blop and the Soylent Green.
  12. Aye, that's a point, I've had some proper kitchen disasters that I've kept schtum about. Might start putting them up on here too, unmarked as such, to see if anyone else has better luck with the recipes that have let me down.
  13. I suppose there's some value in playing dressy-up and learning all about the realities of adult life (i.e. mainly drunkenness, crushing disappointment and tedium).
  14. Aye, that's the bit I really don't get. "Let's copy this great American idea but do it in a really half-arsed British way!" Sounds spiffing.
  15. Brilliant stuff. Hope everything goes well for them.
  16. Aye, it's utter shite. Of course I would have ignored it on principle as a kid, nothing to do with a lack of potential suitors (Smooth Operator aside).
  17. And then you get cases like this: http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1883598,00.html And you wonder why the world is so fucking horrendous at both ends of the spectrum.
  18. I was intent on getting through a pile of books last week, but I was away with friends and forgot that that would involve actually socialising and stuff. Maybe CT has a point after all. Anyway, Andrew Collins' autobiographical series - Where Did It All Go Right?, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and That's Me In The Corner - makes for dead easy holiday reading. Was surprised at how easily Zadie Smith went down too.
  19. Just encountered that one for the first time - at the terrace bar at Arrecife Airport, of all places. Made a nice change after drinking decent but generic local lager all week.
