  1. Some of these have been downright brilliant. The later ones are more straightforward tournament reviews (although some of the southern hicks they interview in 1994 are good fun - "sawkerr? is that the one where you don't use your hands?"). But I've just started watching the 1970 one now, and... . It begins with footage of the England team boarding their flight at Heathrow. Cut to a sweet shop in Mexico, where a young local boy is inspired by the TV pictures to raid his savings, jump out of the window and start hitchhiking to the Azteca Stadium all on his own. He starts out by riding on the back of a flatbed truck full of pigs, then we see him on the back of a wood-carrying donkey, being paddled across a river by a plait-haired native girl on a barge filled with flowers, getting out of a Coca-Cola truck on the side of a busy motorway, then telling lies to an English couple called Lucy and Harry so that they'll take him the rest of the way in their convertible. Lucy and Harry have just left him at the Azteca - "adios!" - and now it's the first ad break. There hasn't been a single shot of a football match yet.
  2. Whether that's genuine or not, it's scary how many people like that there are in the world. (And the dumpee sounds a bit of a nightmare too.)
  3. She'll be up on the table doing that at karaoke as soon as she finds a babysitter.
  4. Somehow managed to drag myself off the sofa and to the gym at 8.30 on a Friday evening. Anything to feel less guilty about the beers I'm about to have. Hope you and the nipper have a smashing time Cath.
  5. It's been done. Did a 10k run for the same charity a few years ago and there were more than a few "Do I get a free sick kid for donating?"/"Will this help me gain a sick child's trust?" comments from those who supported me. Although that might reflect more on my friends really.
  6. http://www.sickchildrenstrust.org/Events__Campaigns/Appeals/%27Home_from_home%27_Appeal/?rand=417641295 Known about this for a while because him indoors works for the charity that's involved. Good stuff (assuming the funding works out, obviously).
  7. Still a bit surprising to see an essentially English party get a four-figure vote in a place like Aberdeen, mind. The Green Party candidate was called Rhonda Reekie. You'd think that'd have been worth a few votes.
  8. Mind I've bashed on about this on Twitter too, but wasn't it good to see Tahiti at least try and play a bit of football? Always looking up and for the pass out wide to stretch the game a bit and launch a counter. Andorra or San Marino would probably have lost by less than 10, but they'd have been dull as fuck in the process.
  9. Enough about your testicles, what about your cats?
  10. True, I suppose that's a useful fringe benefit. Although with some of the dicks you get going to gigs, you can imagine them spending the whole night filming each other holding up their phones instead. (I go to gigs in London, obviously, which tends not to help when it comes to the self-interested dickhead quota of the audience.)
  11. That's different though, when it's something the act actually wants. (We had funky remote-controlled light bracelets at Eurovision this year. ) I just can't imagine anyone saying "you know what would really improve tonight's show, if half the crowd watches it through a viewfinder while blocking other people's view"
  12. One of my absolute pet hates, aye. Just watch the bloody thing you've paid for!
  13. Not yet, tempted though. Saw them a year or two back and I can't imagine they'd do much different, but it was very good. Let's get the beers in either way.
  14. That was more polite than I'd have been.
  15. Good luck. You must be gutted the Aqua question's already gone.
  16. ESPN Classic (enjoy it while it still exists!) are showing several of the FIFA official World Cup films over the coming days. Missed 1990 today , but there's 1998, 1994, 1970, 1982 and 1986 all coming up.
